By the script as given above the conditional check will skip to the error message.

Though I have to say that ctype_alpha does return TRUE when I do try it with "tag_name" which is entered data from the input field, while the other is from the textarea.

I simply cannot see the reason for the returned FALSE.

Hi, I'm pretty new to PHP and I am working on a form that sends and email. I want to display a message if the mail can't be sent (i.e. if mail() returns false) and a different message if mail() returns true, except it is returning false even though the emails are sending.


Basically I have used:

Hi all ! The following code has two similar queries. Query 1 and Query 2. While Query 1 works just fine, Query 2 simply fails persistently. I have not been able to figure out why?   I have checked every single variable and field names but found no discrepancy of any sort or any mismatch of spelling with the fields in the database.   I would be grateful if anybody can point out what is preventing the second query from returning a valid mysqli object as the first one does. How can I check if a function has returned false.. I know theirs the following way:

But is their another way (beside using the ! operator) perhaps === FALSE (not sure if that'd work so asking)?

This is the code and the var_dump($mysqli->commit()); line prints false ! BUT , the inserts are in the database. If i comment out the commit line , then nothing is in the database.    Can you advise ? Thanks !

in my code below the **data is extracted correctly for the first foreach but doesn't return anything for 2nd foreach though selected one present inside the 2nd foreach** i still get the error Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() for line `foreach ($authorlist as $post)`... however the 2nd foreach returns data correctly as soon as i remove the first foreach loop. 

I want to get suggested keywords from yahoo api service. When xml file is empty (no keyword), it gives error. To resolve this problem I used this code:

Since it is not a normal .xml file, it is always considered no file, and return nothing.

I'm just trying to find out if php has the ability to check if any file exists, with only part of the filename given..

I have this path:

I added a little star.. That star represents whatever the rest of that file is named for this example.. It could be anything.. So can php match any files that start with "templ_", and say that it does or does not exist??

OK, I am totally and utterly stumped. I have this script:

Basically, it is for checking if there is a cached version of the page before running the rest of the script, using the REQUEST_URI as the identifier. So it calls a function to clear the cache, which works fine (and I've tried just deleting the cache files manually anyway).

Then it checks if we are even caching, i.e. if cache time is greater than 0. Then it uses the BASE64-encoded REQUEST_URI (under which name the file would have been cached previously) to check if a file with that name still exists in the cache dir, and if so loads it. Now, this works perfectly with a url like:

mysite/myscript/mysubpage

But when the page has parameters, like:

mysite/myscript/mysubpage?search=widgets

the file_exists function returns TRUE, even though the directory is empty. I did do a clearstatcache(); but it made no difference and anyway, it wouldn't explain why the URI with query string would fail while the regular one would not. And even if something is wrong with my code elsewhere, the fact is it is returning TRUE for a non-existent file.

Can someone prevent my slide into insanity?!

I get the tmp folder and check for its existanse and whether it is writeable

So in my last thread I was working on checking if a file was there...I resorted to something not in the library and used

now for some reason php is being a poo and no matter what returning that there is a file there. no matter what method i use be it fopen or file_exists or anything else, it saying I have a file in that directory BUT I DO NOT! THERE IS NOT ONE OF THOSE FILES. I know I have my paths right because If I echo them directly I get the picture...what the heck?!

I've been working on a php script to replace links that contain a query with direct links to the files they would redirect to.
The script has to work with a large xml file, which might take a few minutes.
Because of the xml size the script will never finish. The php execution time limit prevents the script from finishing and can't be set to a higher value.

I rewrote my script, so it splits the xml file into multiple "chunk" files that will be processed later.
For each chunk, I call a second php script from within the first. So each xml chunk can be processed at the same time.
For example, for 20 xml chunks, the second php script will be launched 20 times per chunk.

To convert the queries , the second script uses get_headers($url, 1)  on each link in the xml chunk, which then should return a direct link as $headers['Location'];
BUT, the header always returns empty.

For some reason I could get the headers when I used get_headers() from the first php script without calling the second ones that process the chunks...
I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what is going on, I included the files I'm using.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

is there a difference between if($var == false) and if(false == $var)

I am trying to do a loop which uses file_exists to check if an image exists and if so display it using the following code:

I have echoed out $filename to check my directory structure and filename is fine and copied the echoed directory out. The structure is however http://Http://www.xxxxxx.com/img/filename.jpg. Could this be whats causing the problem?
