PHP - Combine 3 Fields Into A Single Output

Hi, I've been scratching my head for a while now about how to do this, I'm relatively new to php and mysql and perhaps foolishly taking on creating a user area for a website.  I have everything else working, all of my register account functions and confirmations and all of the login scripts etc. 

I have created a profile page which returns various information to the user (this bit works fine) and I've got some nice show/hide toggles running with some javascript/css but my intention is to allow the user to change thier information (e-mail address, contact phone number and also whether they are subscribed to the e-mail list), it also displays any support tickets or messages.

So after the long intro, here's what I'm struggling with...  I have a form in a visibility toggled <div> which submits a 'change_email' script, so a user wants to change their e-mail, clicks on change, the <div> appears, they bang in the new e-mail and hit submit.

My php script appears to work (because it doesn't throw up any errors), until you realise that actually it's not updated the record in the db...

I'm using mysql_query("UPDATE users SET email='$new_email' WHERE username='$user'");

Do I need to setup variables for all of the information in the db (name, username, password, email, contno etc etc) and include them in the command to get it to work or should that just pick the correct record and then update it? If that is the case is there a way I can include 'blank' variables so I don't have to set them all up...

e.g.  mysql_query("UPDATE users SET user='',password='',email='$new_email', etc WHERE username='$user'");

Well I have a script that executes a scan on a system set to run infinitely, and I need it to echo out a message each time it loops through, but I don't want it to echo out the message with the next loop message below it, and the next one below that etc... I've tried using the flush(); function and been messing around with that with no luck. For security reasons I don't want to release any of the processing code, but here is the basic construction of the script:

Hey guys,   Thank you in advance... here is my situation, I have a form with three (3) fields in it, the 'student name' is unlimited textfield with an "add more" button to it and I have two select fields ('number of shirts' and 'trophies') that depend on the number of entries for 'student name'...   I want to create the select fields based on this math, for as many 'student name' entries:   1- i want to have the select form for 'number of shirts' to be 0 up to that number... so if there are 6 'student name' entries, the select options will be 0,1,3,4,5,6,7 2- I want to have the select form for 'trophies' to be 5 'student name' entries to 1 'trophies', for example if there are 6 'student name' entries, the select options will be 0,1... if there are 13 entries, options will be 0,1,2... So if there are less than 5 'student name' entries, the select field will not show (hidden)   of course if there are no 'student name' entries, these two fields won't show up (hidden)   let me know if that make sense and ANY help or directions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.   Thanks guys!  

Hi guys, im currently querying my database and if ($row) im including a file. But i would like to make it so if ($row) or a session variable is active, to include the file.

I have tried using || but ive only ever used that for regular variables and I cant get it working in the way i want.

so at the moment i have

I know this involves MySQL, but it's mostly PHP, so I figured it should go here, forgive me if I posted in the wrong section, though.

Anyway! Let's get down to it. I'd like to combine these two scripts (below). I want the questionnaire script to be a signup requirement in the signup script, and I want it to log the questionnaire into my MySQL database as usual, then prompt the user with a successful sign up.

I'm still really new to PHP and I'm just testing to see if this'll work. How would I go about doing this? Thanks a LOT guys.

I have an array which looks a little like this, the first number in each array is a quantity

  array(6,"Saab",5,2)
);

what I want to do is combine any array which matches another, but ignoring the quanitity value (first one).

Then creating the array again and adding up the quanitity values and re-inserting them at the start.

Therefore the end result would look like

  array(9,"Saab",5,2),
  array(4,"BMW",11,7),
  array(5,"Land Rover",17,15),
);

Has anyone got any ideas on how I might do this?

I would like to use/combine some sort of redirect link for users who are redirected to the mobile site to be ridirected back to the full site and vice versa. I wrote a quick $_GET example below, but would rather use $_SESSIONS if possible to make it more transparent/invisible. My question is how best to combine the code above with the code below and get it to work?

So i have 2 variable strings:

I need to make this 2 variables into 1 array being variable 1 as a key value and variable 2 as a variable..
and i tried combining them using:

$array = array_combine($variable1, $variable2);

the problem is some item name are the same so it just overwrites the other so instead of giving me this:
Array ([item] => number, [item] => number, [item =>number])

it gives me this:

Array ([item =>number])

I really need them to be complete because i will loop each key and value to be inserted to a new row in my db..

I am attempting to flush values from a URL query with a pagation script.

This line of code will replace one value:
$page_name2 = preg_replace('/&?start=\d+/','',$page_name);

This line of code will replace the second value:
$page_name3 = preg_replace('/&?limit=\d+/','',$page_name);

Can I combine them to replace both values in replace?

This obviously isn't it:
$page_name3 = preg_replace(('/&?limit=\d+/','',)&&('/&?start=\d+/','',)$page_name);

I have two arrays, such as these:

Array 2 ( => 8|1|0|5|0|0 [1] => 7|2|0|5|0|0 [2] => 7|3|0|5|0|0 [3] => 7|4|0|5|0|0 )

I am trying to write a piece of code that will compare every value in array 2 to every value in array 1 and if the first 2 NUMERICAL values do not exist in Array 1, they are to be added to it.

So, in the end, after comparison, Array 1 should look like this:

In the first code, first it checks $value1 and then $value2 one by one, and that way it checks if both of them contain all the words that are put in the search field. What I need is to check if all the words that are put in the search field are contained in the one OR in the another. I want to make it search through both of them at the same time, but I don't know how to put correctly that OR I put in the second example. So any professional help will be appreciated.

Here is an example of what I mean:

If the Ad has this:

Ad Title: nokia phone on sale
Ad Description: brand new, unpacked, with 16gb memory card included.

and if someone searches for nokia sale it will show the ad, because all the search words are contained in the Ad Title. Also, if the search is brand unpacked it will also show the ad, because all the search words are contained in the Ad Description. But, the problem is if someone searches for nokia brand This way, the word nokia is not contained in the Ad Description, and the word brand is not contained in the Ad Title, so the ad will not be shown.

So, I only need a way to put that OR correctly to connect those two values, just like the second code, but in the right way.

Would there be any feasible way of combining the two Update statement below into one?
