PHP - How To Check If Two Alphabetical Variables Are The Same?
Hi all!
I'm stuck in the midst of some code. In it I have an if function which operates based on whether a variable (a word) is the same as another variable. Here is my code: Code: [Select] <? $var1 = "chicago"; if($table_name === $var1){ $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM another_table WHERE username='$usernamee'"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result) ) { $var2 = $row['var2']; $var2_new = $var2 * 2; mysql_query("UPDATE another_table SET var2 = '$var2_new' WHERE username = '$usernamee'"); } } ?>I tried using =, == and ===, but did not get any of the results I expected. Could anyone advice me on the situation? Thanks in advance. Regards, Thauwa Similar TutorialsI have a form with multiple options to fill out (its a admin form) i want to make sure only one of the of the options are set, so im checking if the variable is empty with if ($variable1 != NULL) { $new_variable = "yep, this option was filled out"; } so if the form sent anything from the form with the value 'variable1' it then sets a new variable ($new_variable) Problem is i have multiple fields so i need to make sure if it finds a a variable is not empty, then too check if the others have anything in them too. If it does find another (meaning more than one has been filled out) echo an error (echo "you must only complete one option..") What is the best way to check if more than one variable exists? Sorry if i explained it complicated. Thank you I'm pulling a list from a DB and inserting it in a drop down menu. Each item on the list has a numerical id associated called marketid in the DB. It works, but it orders the list alphabetically. I need it to order by marketid which is the column name. What code do I need to add? Here is what I have now.... <option value="<?=$market['marketid']?>"><?=$market['name']?></option> Thanks in advance all!! Tony Hey guys, Really dumb question, but I want to check if a bunch of variables are all not empty. Then, if they aren't, I want to execute a mySQL query. Right now I have this which I know is wrong because it doesn't work the right way: Code: [Select] if($album != null || $artist != null || $year != null || $genre != null) { // stuff here... } Obviously I want all of those variables to be checked if they are empty or not. I did a quick Google and found that checking if the variables are null wouldn't be the correct way of solving this situation because an "empty string" is still not null? Anyway, any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty sure it's really simple :p. I have a string which is a list of user id's like "44/5/6/67/7/88/56/76/9/90/65/74/8/68". I explode this string and put them into an array, but now I have a problem of getting the users first names from the database by using the id's and putting them in alphabetical order. How can I do this? Thanks This topic has been moved to MySQL Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=356016.0 How do I present these documentaries like this:

I have some code which needs to return a single variable from the function and stored as a variable within this page, so it can be echoed later on in the page. I couldn't get it to return as a variable, so i used "return compact();" to return the variable and "extract (myFunction());" to extract it to variables. However, when I turned on php's display errors and error reporting function, I got an error message saying "Warning: extract() [function.extract]: First argument should be an array in /my/web/site/index.php on line 6" (which is where my extract function is). This works fine with passing more than one variables through, is there another way pass one variable from a function to be stored as a variable on the page which called the function? Here is the function: Code: [Select] <?php //This is a list of numeric error codes against their text. this will return the error code as the variable $issue function checkLoginIssue() { //If there is an error code if (isset($_GET["issue"])) { //cycle through the list until the code is reached, return the text and break the switch switch ($_GET["issue"]) { case "1": $issue = '<p class="warning">Please log in to view this page</p>'; break; case "2": $issue = '<p class="warning">Wrong Username or Password</p>'; break; case "3": $issue = '<p class="warning">No user found with those details</p>'; break; } //return the variable in an array with a single value return compact('issue'); } } ?> And here is the code which calls the function: Code: [Select] <?php extract(checkLoginIssue()); ?> I am unable to execute mysql_num_rows properly in this program. Code: [Select] <?php $link=mysql_connect("localhost","root",""); $db = mysql_select_db("myDB",$link); $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM jobs WHERE jobType=abc"); $num = mysql_num_rows($result); echo "Found $num records"; ?> error is mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource Hello, I have created a little voting script for my site. The insertion code into the MySQL databse when they vote is very simple: $ipaddress = addslashes($_POST['ipaddress']); $theid = addslashes($_POST['theid']); $gamert = addslashes($_POST['gamert']); $serveron = addslashes($_POST['serveron']); $db = mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "password"); mysql_select_db("thedb",$db); mysql_query ("INSERT INTO voting (theid,ipaddress,gamert,serveron2) VALUES ('$theid','$ipaddress','$gamert','$serveron') "); Obviously I only want them to be able to vote once. What is the best way to do a check of the IPs already in the database and check against theirs before submitting? Thanks. Suppose i have a table with around 10 entries in which one column contains the id and the second column contains a checkbox... If a checkbox a selected and the button (below the table) is pressed then i want to delete the columns corresponding the checked checkboxes.... I am not getting how sgould i pass the get variable on the link of the button??? -Pranshu Agrawal pranshu.a.11@gmail.com Hello their, I'm wanting to use PHP to check to see if a username and password match a remote RDP server. The reason I ask is because I want to verify that the information the user is giving is correct. I'm looking though LDAP but I have no idea what I'm looking for. To recap, I would like to login to a RDP server and return a result based on if it completed. Thank-you for reading Paul P.S Sorry for the bad English, I seemed to forgot how to spell some words and have had to replace them with longer sentences ok so i can get this to work so i want to check if there is a video on inside my db if there is no video and nothing happens but if there is i want it to echo video Code: [Select] <?php if($video == ""){ }else{ echo "VIDEO"; } ?> Code: [Select] public function getBonusChildren($userID) { if($userID != NULL) { $sql = 'SELECT COUNT(*) AS count, userID FROM jos_backoffice_users WHERE parentID= ' . $userID . ';'; $stmt = conn::getInstance()->prepare($sql); $stmt->execute(); $obj = $stmt->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC); if(is_object($obj)) { $obj->count += $this->getBonusChildren($obj->userID); } } return $obj->count; } I get no error. It just always return null. How can I get this done? Hello. I'm working on a site which I'd prefer to use SVG for some of the images. However, since not all browsers support SVG, I'm going to set a global variable to true if I detect the browser supports SVG. Using this, I can check to see if SVG is supported and show PNG/gif/jpg images in the place of the SVG in older browsers (and add a small banner at the top prompting them to upgrade to a modern browser). I can already do this using javascript. But seeing as javascript can be disabled, newer browsers that can support SVG might not be fed those images (which are much smaller files). The javascript I'm using to test SVG support is as follows Code: [Select] document.implementation.hasFeature("http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/feature#Shape", "1.1") the php code I tried, seeing as how it would make sense, is the following DOMImplementation::hasFeature("http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/feature#Shape", "1.1") (both of those were used in conditional branches) Is there any way to get php to test for SVG support? Or do I need to stick with javascript? Thanks for reading! Hi, I am trying to see if the domain name in the string is in an array. eg; Code: [Select] mystring='http://google.com/somethingelse'; myarray[]='google.com'; myarray[]='anotherdomain.com'; in this case return TRUE Code: [Select] mystring='http://phpfreaks.com/adir'; myarray[]='google.com'; myarray[]='anotherdomain.com'; in this case return FALSE How would I do this?
