PHP - How To Enable Auto-updation Through Php Like In Facebook
Hi, surely all of us have seen the auto-instant notifications in Facebook, or that comments appear automatically in a page while we are still on that page without page refresh. Can anybody give me an outline of how is it accomplished? If it were the other way around, like the user inputs something in the page, that data could be sent to the server through Ajax and a server side PHP script could update the database accordingly. But how can it be accomplished in the reverse manner also, that when some user does something in one page of a website, its notification is propagated to another page of the site open on some other computer instantly?

So a project I have simply to learn how it is done is to make an auto updating sitemap with a auto submitter. I have been doing a little research on sitemaps but haven't found much in the way of a tutorial or white paper or similar, anyway I was wondering if I am on the right track or not. What I was thinking for the auto-updating sitemap is since site maps are XML, when an article is published using my custom CMS/Blogging system, I make it rewrite the sitemap appending the new URL that will be generated. Then for the auto-submit, I can either make it a cron job or just manual press, but it would go though a for list of URLs, replacing the end part with my site map url. I think that is how it would be done. If you have a better idea, or can point out an article so I can understand a lot more with sitemaps, I will appreciate it, I am trying to learn as much as possible, I have gone to the offical website (sitemaps.org) but it doesn't have what I am looking for. By default, PHP comes with some extensions disabled. Question 1: Is there a command (via command-line) to enable ALL extensions? I have it setup to read a field "enabled" which has a 1 or 0. 0=disabled, 1=enabled The script works if I manually change that field, ie it reads the correct question. But need a way to have the questions listed then the one that needs to be shown on the site selected to be enabled on an admin page. Something like a list with checkboxes or radio buttons? How can I have one enabled and make sure the rest are not to prevent multiple questions being enabled? I'm trying to utilize a PHP script to parse a large XML file (around 450 MB) to MYSQL database into certain structure and definitions of included XML elements. The problem is that the original script uses file_get_contents and SimpleXMLElement to get it done, but the corn job executed by the server halts due to the volume of the XML file. I'm no PHP expert, so I bought this XMLSplit software and divided the XML into 17 separated XML files each at size of 30 MB, parsed them one by one using the same script. However, the output database was missing a lot of input, and I have serious doubts whether this would be the same output of the original file if left not divided automatically and parsed one by one.
So, I've decided to use XMLReader with this exact PHP script to parse this big XML file, but so far I couldn't manage to simply replace the parsing code and keep other functionality intact.

On Facebook, when you click on "view friends" on one of your friends' profile, a window pops up. Is that made with PHP? Or is it flash or something? I want to reward users for every user they invite. My boss wants people to be able to share their store with their friends on Facebook from within the stores admin panel. He wants the following. 1) Display all friends with a checkbox next to each name. 2) Check the friends you want to inform about your store. 3) Post a message on checked friends wall. It sounds simple. The problem is the friends selection screen. Some of my friends on Facebook have 1000 friends. Obviously listing all of them is inpractical. Ideally I need a search box to limit the friends that display and make it easy to find who you are looking for. Does something like this already exist? Does it have a name? |
