PHP - Database Driven Php Menu System
Hello,
I am making a small CMS and I having some trouble with making a dynamic menu. I am wondering for a few days how I should make this menu system. I have the follow MySQL table: Code: [Select] CREATE TABLE `pages` ( `id` int(4) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `time` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL, `lastby` varchar(2) DEFAULT NULL, `order_id` varchar(2) DEFAULT NULL, `text` text, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB; Now I would like to have a menu system as following that I make menu's in a menu table with a name and a menu ID and that I could place those pages as parent or as subparent. How could I manage to turn my theory into reality? Similar TutorialsWhats the best way to make a database driven menu ? Right now I have a db that looks like id | boats | Inshore id | boats | Offshore id | boats | Bay Boats and so on I'm think of going to database 1 id-1 | boats database 2 id | 1 | inshore or would a multideminsional array work best. My goal is to have the short term format be Boats Inshore Offshore Bay Boats and in the long term a format whose style I can change later, I wanted to get ideas from people in the know and have done this before. Thanks in advance I am trying to write out a calendar style html table with data in each cell, and with a column on the left that shows the times. Basically it should look like this when written out to the webpage: Time Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri Sat 8:00 data data2 9:30 data3 data4 10:00 data5 data6 11:00 data7 data8 The times on the left will vary each month, and the 'data' (these are actually fitness classes held each month) will appear on various days of the week. There is no need to toggle from one month to the next and such, it's just a listing of the current month to display the classes held on which days and at which times. Very easy to do statically in html, but a bit more challenging dynamically. Using MySQL, the table that holds the data looks like this: Code: [Select] schedule_id class_time class_title day_order 1 08:00 data 1 2 08:00 data2 3 3 09:30 data3 2 4 09:30 data4 4 5 10:00 data5 3 6 10:00 data6 5 7 11:00 data7 1 8 11:00 data8 3 The day_order field corresponds to the weekday - Mon is 1, Tues is 2, etc. My query looks like this: Code: [Select] SELECT schedule_id, class_time, class_title, day_orderFROM `class_schedule` order by class_time, day_order Here is the html/ php code to write it out: Code: [Select] <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="625"> <tr> <td class="calheader">Time</td> <td class="calheader">Mon</td> <td class="calheader">Tue</td> <td class="calheader">Wed</td> <td class="calheader">Thu</td> <td class="calheader">Fri</td> <td class="calheader">Sat</td> <td class="calheader">Sun</td> </tr> <? $i=0; $first_time = ""; while($i<$num_rows){ $sid = mysql_result($sql,$i,"schedule_id"); $ctime = mysql_result($sql,$i,"class_time"); $cdate = mysql_result($sql,$i,"CURDATE()"); $strtime = date("h:i:s",$cdate.$ctime); $ctitle = stripslashes(mysql_result($sql,$i,"class_title")); $order = mysql_result($sql,$i,"day_order"); if ($ctime != $first_time){ if (isset($first_time)){ echo ""; } if ($first_time == ""){ echo "<tr>\n"; echo "<td class=\"timecell\">". $ctime ."</td>\n"; } $first_time = mysql_result($sql,$i,"class_time"); } $j = 1; while ($j<8 && $first_time != ""){ if ($order == $j){ $thetitle = $ctitle; } else { $thetitle = " "; } echo "<td class=\"calcell\">". $thetitle ."</td>\n"; $j++; } unset($first_time); if (!isset($first_time)) { echo "</tr>\n"; } $i++; } unset($ctitle); unset($thetitle); unset($weekday); unset($sid); unset($clink); unset($order); mysql_close(); The above code sort of works, but the trouble I am having is that it is creating a new table row for each class, even if they occur at the same time slot. It should be putting them on the same row, to the right of the time slot across the days of the week. If anyone could assist, that would be wonderful - I am really stuck with this... Thanks Sorry for my bad english but i hope you would understand my query. How can i set 404 not found for database driven pages..? I am using header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found"); in my 404 error page and ErrorDocument 404 /404.html, whereas 404.html is my error page. i have an URL http://www.example.com/folder/my-test-for-url-95/ which is opening correctly because it has existence on database. but when i am opening http://www.example.com/folder/my-test-for-url-951/ which has existence on database is also opening without any information but i want here a 404 not found page. How can i do so. Thanks Hi all, I am wondering what the best way to do this is... Take GoDaddy for example, if your domain is about to expire you will get an automatic email. I am wanting to do something similar, If someone orders a Soap Dispenser, I want to send an email (if they accept to receiving emails on the order) each month asking/reminding them to top up on soap. I have been reading but cant find anything adequate, I have seen something about Cron Jobs, but never heard of this before, please could you point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. Peter hello everyone, I am about to start coding my pages to display results from a database but before i do i want to know information about the following : Is it best to upload images to a database?and display them accordingly? or is it best to use images from a directory? What is most commonly used and or more reliable? Another topic i have trouble finding information on is actually positioning the output from you mysql database, is this practice done with tables?fields and rows? What is this method called? And is there more then one way to go about controlling result layout on your page? Sorry about the 1001 questions , but i am unable to find a clear answer on the topic ..especially question two . Thanks in advance. I'm looking to open a custom giftcard shop in which I'll be selling giftcards at 75%-95% of the face value. (I usually buy them off ebay cheap and resell them). I've already got the login system complete by using one I found online. What I'm looking to do now is make the shop section now where I can import a text document with the giftcard #, and Pin number to have them all show up in a list (but have only the first 6 numbers show up and the rest stared out with "***" until purchased, with the option to add each individual one to the cart (checkboxes beside each one). But I want them to be able to buy them with "credits". Credits being a site currency I'd like to be created. I want users to be able to buy these "credits" with the LibertyReserve API. These credits are to be attached to their login until used up. 1 credit = 1$ LR I notice Libertyreserve has a sample shop script: http://www.libertyreserve.com/en/home/downloads , but it doesnt exactly have the credit features and cart features I stated above, however I'm sure can be somewhat useful in coding what I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I have no idea where to start. I'm sure this is basic to some, and well I'm looking to hire someone if they are confident they can complete this quick, otherwise any free feedback would help so much. Here is the site so far... http://www.eliteids.com/lrstore I have a database table of plants, one of chemicals, one of products, one of illnesses. Each table is connected, for example lets say opium poppies. They contain the chemical morphine. Morphine is used in painkiller products. Its used to treat pain and other illnesses. On the opium poppy page, I want to list all the chemicals found in the poppy. All the products (i.e. opium, laudanum) made from the poppy. All the illnesses which are treated with the poppy. Users need to be able to edit this page, and enter chemicals, products or illnesses that are related to this plant. They also need to be able to edit the info on the page.
Making database relations is a pain in the ass with CakePHP. I don't want to waste any more time so I'm thinking maybe making it as a wordpress plugin is the way to go. How would you go about this? Is there an easier way than wordpress, like a better CMS, or framework? If I use wordpress, should I do all the DB interactions with AJAX to avoid having to interact with the DB through wordpress (this gave me massive trouble in the past since I had my data in an external db)?
I've played around with CakePHP, then XCrud (a decent CRUD application) but I gave up on both of them, XCrud was great for everything up until it came to managing complicated relational database tables. Anyhow, I'm using wordpress a lot now cuz it lets me stop reinventing the wheel so much and although I was able to integrate XCrud into WordPress as a plugin, I think the best way to go is just transfer my database tables to WordPress tables and display them as custom post types. My time is really limited right now though, is there a plugin/set of plugins I can use to automate the process? To show you what I mean, heres the XCrud list display of one of the tables:
thats great because it automatically sets up the CRUD thing and lets you add and edit fields to the table, and doesn't heavily box you into their system but I have a table of plants, one for products, one for pharmacology, one for categories which are all related to each other, and some of them are structured in a tree/nested hierarchy structure so long story short, I need to do advanced searches based on these relations and handle these tree structured tables and CakePHP didn't work out, and XCrud has crappy documentation and isn't popular enough to find good info.
So how would you go about transfering this system to WordPress? I'm guessing I need to make custom post types for each table but what I don't yet know is how to transfer the DB tables to WordPress format, how to handle the relationships between each table and how to handle the hierarchical tree structures.
Ok, first off, I tested my own coded reg system and when I make an error test, the error shows but the user info gets added to the database. How can I stop letting the code add the user to the database when an error occurs. <?php include "lang.php"; ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>PokePals - Registering</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /></head> <body> <?php include "navbar.php"; ?> <?php // Important stuff goes here include "sql_local.php"; include "ban.php"; // Now for the registration page echo "<div class='panel'>"; if (isset($_POST["submit"])) { // Define the variables here $user = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["user"]); $pass1 = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["pass"]); $pass2 = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["passconf"]); $email = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["email"]); $email2 = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["email2"]); $dpfc = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["dpfc"]); $platinumfc = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["platinumfc"]); $hgssfc = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["hgssfc"]); $otherfc = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["otherfc"]); $favoritepkmn = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["favoritepkmn"]); $aboutme = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["aboutme"]); $hobbies = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["hobbies"]); $favorites = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["favorites"]); $gender = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["gender"]); // Now check for some errors // Did he/she fill out the form completely? (i need the first to be able to display the array) why does that happen? PART 2: when the table DOES generate, it gives a lot of errors and $i counts up to 7! whaaaaat!? thanks in advance for your help. this has me stumped. i've tried resetting the array, different variable names...nothing worked. i also included the array output at the very bottom. seems like a lot of extra data in there to me...and the [ 0 ] is printing oddly here (spaces prevent odd formatting...). I assume I'd just set up a Table with three fields, (one for name, one for password, one for the type of access they have) then check against it for access, but experience has taught me that whenever something seems simple, it's actually very complex. Do any of you know of any good premade templates for this kind of thing? Ideally it'd be session-based (obviously). I found one system he http://frozenade.wordpress.com/2007/11/24/how-to-create-login-page-in-php-and-mysql-with-session/ but it's several years old, and the misspellings in the comments tend to scare me away a bit. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. I'm trying to make it so that someone can add an item to the shop based upon the current items within the database. How do I go about doing that? I know i have to change <input> to <select>, but beyond that, how do I code it so I can run an array to get all the current items from the table `items` and list them by their `name` field? Thanks in advance! Here is what I have so far: function addshopinv($id) { error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', 1); if (isset($_POST["submit"])) { extract($_POST); $errors = 0; $errorlist = ""; if ($name == "") { $errors++; $errorlist .= "Name is required.<br />"; } else if ($errors == 0) { $dbh=dbconnect() or die ("Userlist read error: " . mysql_error()."<br>"); mysql_select_db("XXX"); $query = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM items WHERE name='$name'"); while ($result = mysql_fetch_array($query)){ $item_id = $result['id']; $query1 = mysql_query("INSERT INTO sale SET shop_id='$id', item_id='$item_id'"); } admindisplay("Inventory Item Added.","Add New Inventory Item"); } else { admindisplay("<b>Errors:</b><br /><div style=\"color:red;\">$errorlist</div><br />Please go back and try again.", "Add New Item to Shop"); } } $page = <<<END <b><u>Add New Inventory Item</u></b><br /><br /> <form action="admin_panel.php?do=addshopinv:$id" method="post"> <table width="90%"> <tr><td width="20%">Name:</td><td><input type="text" name="name" size="30" maxlength="255" value="" />*255 character max</td></tr> </table> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" /> <input type="reset" name="reset" value="Reset" /> </form> END; $page = parsetemplate($page, $row); admindisplay($page, "Add New Inventory Item"); } Hi all, i want my list/menu field values to come from my database. how can i accomplish that? thanks i did Code: [Select] <select name="select"> <option value="0">--select below--</option> <option value="1">Me</option> <?php require_once '../konnect/konex.php'; $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM is_clients"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<option value ='2'>".$row"['name']</option>"; echo "<br />"; } ?> </select> Where is the best to store the list of categories and menu? Obviously it is better to reduce mysql queries. From a plain list in file, we can create desirable list (menu) from an array. This is quite faster (though SELECT from an indexed table is fast too; but I do know if it is as fast as reading from a php file). Any idea how to code this to create the menu faster ? |
