PHP - Duplicate Content From My Loop

I am having a big problem in MySQL and a part in my PHP coding as well.

I created a registration form, where the user will have to fill his names, email address, choose a username and so on. I do not want duplicate email address and username in my database, thus, if a user choose either an email address or a username which has already taken, he will be notified.

To prevent this duplication, I have set both the email address and username fields as UNIQUE KEY in MySQL.

My problems a

Even by setting both the username and email address fields as UNIQUE KEY, it is not working as I can register using the same email address or username. How to solve this?

I have coded also to prevent this problem of duplicate so that the user will be notified to choose another email or username, but I am having a warning.

Originally the data comes from ~2-3 database tables, of course. But to ilustrate the point, this is how the main array looks like. This array usually contains anywhere between 10-50 rows, each row containing at least 10 dates, with 10 key/values each.   And after setting up all the data, it needs to be processed. Currently this is how a friend of mine did it..

Obviously this isn't good practise, but we can't seem to figure out a better way of doing it, since both the data and the loops are horribly nested.   This loop and setup of $firstArray is run anywhere between 10-20 times/request, due to amount of users we wish to process. So, the result is that this code can take up to over 2-3 minutes to complete, which isn't really optimal performance.   In short my question is, are there any better methods of handling this with the data setup we currently have?

I am inserting the two records below simultaneously (one after the other), but what I want to do write the second ONLY if the first isn't a duplicate. Help?

Now where it says course mark above it says 70. This is incorrect as it should be 65 (The average between the module marks percentage should be 65 in the example above) but for some stange reason I can get the answer 65. I have a variable called $courseMark and that does the calculation. Now if the $courseMark is echo outside the where loop, then it will equal 65 but if it is put in while loop where I want the variable to be displayed, then it adds up to 70. Why does it do this.

I think the problem is that it is outputting the answer of the calculation only for the first session mark. How in the while loop can I do it so it doesn't display it for the first mark only but for all the session marks so that it ends up showing the correct answer 65 and not 72?

I am trying to submit data to my database via a form and when I click Submit, I get:

Duplicate entry '' for key 1

I understand that it means I have a duplicate entry with the ID of 1 or something like that. I can't find where the issue is.

Hi there, I know I'm doing something stupid, but i've tried for hours to try and figure this out and I just cant seem to figure out why tutorials i've seen seem to work yet my own code doesnt.
basically i've got two functions: getAll() and get($id) inside a class, calling getAll, returns an array with one of the same record as opposed to all the records (which is my intended result).  Can anyone help? thanks.

I have a function that returns the value of a array if it matches $string, but it only returns Test 1 instead of returning Test 1, Test 2. Can you someone see what I'm doing wrong?
And it has to return N if nothing found.

Hi..

So im currently working on a script..
My script generates a "oid" based on timestamp.

Ive made the "oid" field unique in my db, so if i do a quick refresh i get the message:

Duplicate entry '1283195988' for key 'oid'

Is there some way i can check if its a dublicate, and if it is + it with 1 or something?

I'm putting together a web app similar to Digg and was wondering if there is a function or code example I can use to avoid users submitt the same url.

For example:
Right now the user can submit;
1. http://www.example.com?post01
2. http://example.com?post01
3. www.example.com?post01

I want the web app to check if the link has been submitted by the user first and look for duplicate submission.

Any ideas ?
