PHP - Fileexists With Partial String

I've run into a little bit of a logistical nightmare on some registration pages I've taken over work on.  On these pages, parents register their kids for classes. The pages have been coded as such:
page one: the user enters name and personal info, and selects one or two classes to register for, on submit, they go to page two.
page two: their info is entered into the mysql database's registration table on a unique id  The user verifies the total, enters a discount and submits
page three: credit card info is added to registration table, and sent to authorize.net.
page four: payment processed, and they enter the data for their kids into the attendees table
page five: confirmation and done.

My issue is that, at first I saw people entering page one data, going to page two, then for some reason, hitting the back button. They could then enter the data again. I'd have two entries in the registration table for the same person. I was going to put some sort of unique key on the name and an email, but then I saw scenario two...

Another person enters data and registers one kid.. then for whatever personal reason goes back and registers a second kid in a completely separate transaction.

So I can't put that key on there, but is there a way to prevent them from going back and reentering twice. I don't want to have to blow up the code to do it at the end of everything. and that would take implementing sessions, wouldn't it? I'm not so versed at that. Any thoughts?

I want to show part of the text from a page containing my article on my main page. The article resides in a database in mysql. How do I limit the amount of text that is shown without setting up a separate excerpt box for the article. I want to then provide a link so the user can go to another page that displays the entire article. Thanks for any suggestions.

My query results are only pulling partial values for table entries with a space (Example:  AJ Smith only returns AJ and not the full name ).

I am sure this is an easy fix and I am just missing something.

I have a array of file path strings and trying to search the array for a string that would be the end of the path sting and return the index of the file path that contains the string. I've tried using something like this, but it finds the keyword in anyplace in the file path. I've also tried strripos() as well with the same results. Any suggestions?

I've recoded allot with 3 scripts i had to my disposal. I've fixed 95% and i'm proud allready, but stuck at the following code. It does'nt execute any errors and refreshes the page without uploading the picture to the desired folder. Also folders are'nt created. I've turned on error reporting at level -1, but those errors i fixed.

Can you please help me out?

Hi I am trying to search an array that comes from a power shell script, the array of strings that returns is ever changing as it receives variables from the script. Therefore I need to use preg_grep to search for the word "not" I am also using another array which inverts this I then need to compare these new two arrays to the original and separate the results $working and not working into a table. I am trying to make some adjustments to uploadify.php which comes with the latest version of uploadify (3.0 beta), so that it works with a session variable that stores the login username and adds it to the path for uploads.  Here is uploadify.php as it currently looks:

I added Code: [Select]
echo $targetFolder; at the bottom so that I could make sure that the string returned was correct, and it is, i.e. '/songs/nick'.  For some reason though, uploads are not going to the correct folder, i.e. the username folder, but instead are going to the parent folder 'songs'.  The folder for username exists, with correct permissions, and when I manually enter Code: [Select]
$targetFolder = '/songs/nick';all works fine.  Which strikes me as rather strange.  I have limited experience of using php, but wonder how if the correct string is returned by the session variable, the upload works differently than with the manually entered string.

Any help would be much appreciated.  It's the last issue with a website that was due to go live 2 days ago!

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread. My issue is that I can't think of a way to edit a XML file using PHP's XML functionality and then assign the edited contents to a string instead of saving the file. Because my issue is that I have to edit the XML file based upon a string brought from a remote location then give it back to that remote location using a string again, to be exact I am doing it via Linux command line utilizing SSH2.

I'm trying to change the end of a javascript call based on the end of the url string. The common part of all the url strings is sobi2Id=, I'm trying to do this with strstr but am having no luck. I'm new to php so my syntax knowledge is terrible!

at the moment i've got

but this returns an unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';'

Can anyone debug this? I may well be being really silly!

I have the following function, which takes a string with commas in it and attempts remove those commas. The way I have it here is that I use explode to take out the commas, which makes an array, and then iterate through that array to put a string back together without the commas.

   $sortByCount = count($sortByArray);
   for ($i = 0; $i < $sortByCount; $i++) {
      $sortByString += $sortByArray[$i];
   }
   return $sortByString;

What does not work is the following line:
$sortByString += $sortByArray[$i];
Somehow that outputs a 0, which I don't understand. It should output something like: arrayItem1 arrayItem2 array3 etc.

My question is if there either is an easier way to remove the commas from the original string or what I am doing wrong in this line:
$sortByString += $sortByArray[$i];  // I am trying to concatenate each part of the array back into the string.

hey guys im trying to find a string inside a string which could be made up of different things eg...

{$test}, {$test1}, {$test2}   
etc (but the varable inside could be called anything hence maybe using regex im not sure?)
is this possible?...i hope you guys understand....thanks

In PHP Version 8.0 shows error as :
PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught TypeError: Unsupported operand types: string * string 
String is as under :

In previous versions of PHP it does not show any error.

Please resolve the issue.

Hello guys i am trying to figure out how to fwrite a string for example "Recommended Settings for Service Pack" under "Current Settings for Service Pack: 5.1.2600ServicePack3Build2600". I figure i cant use line number as an argument because the file report may be dynamic so i will need to use Current Settings as an argument. Please guide me if you have any ideas..thanks:) !
