PHP - Order Database Results In Php

How can I make this output in descending order from greatest to least? Right now, it appears like:

1940
1941
1942
1943
1944
etc...

i'd like it to be like

2012
2011
2010
2009
etc.. until it gets to 1940

any ideas?

I wish to order my results by its occurrence inside the $status array.

Basically all of the results with the status 'New' are to be listed first, then the results with the status Today, Tomorrow, Soon and so on.

Is this possible, or is there alternatively a different approach to ordering my results how I desire?

i have a large document - and i want it to parse it and spit out only this part:  schule.php?schulnr=80287&lschb= 

Question: How to i parse the stuff!?

Well i try it with FireBug and FirePath (the Xpath-tool) i do it like the following:

    * Load the document into my browser, if possible
    * start Firebug extension/add-on
    * run the FirePath extension
    *  and run the xpath

      //a[contains(@href, "schule")]/@href
    *

      then i click "Eval" button.

 i find 2030 results - that are marked - how do i get them out of the firebug - to work with them?!  If i have to be more precise - please let me know!!  Perhaps i have to write more - and to add more information

What im trying to achieve is a user contact system, when the user types input in the textarea its saved in a database along with his userid on the site and the date, I have an admin side coded up where it retrieves the data, but there is no order. I want to have it display the most recent results on top. I have looked into this in the mysql manual, but you know how that is its so hard to make sense of anything in that damn manual.

Hello everyone , I am new to php  .. I am trying to make website that other people can order my books.So I saw video tutorial
about making shopping cart and everything works , until part when other person need to send me information what ordered.
With paypal it works , but in my country paypal is not available to use , so I want them to send me their details , and I will send them books .
I made database , it works to get their details , but can't get hidden parts , product_id , product_id_array and cartTotal so I can know what they ordered , and how much they need to pay me .. How to "grab" what they ordered , they shopping cart when have products .. Thanks in advance for help ))

For some reason every time I run this form it inserts an undefined value into the field called sortorder into my database table. The rest of the form inputs insert properly but that one. Here's the necessary coding. Anyone see why?

Hey guys, I am having trouble figuring this out. I currently have a database that automatically sorts itself by the id of the data. But, I am wanting the user to be able to change the sort order via a select box. I already have the select box programmed with the options, but I am not sure how to go about coding the options to change the sort order of the displayed data. What would the best way to go about programming this be?

I am very new new php (wrote my first PHP script 5 Days ago) and am trying to give myself a crash course but I have hit a pit-stop which is killing me a little!

I hope that title makes sense.... Basically I created PHP script to take data from a database and display in, I then wrote some code to use a drop down menu to order that data. That all worked ok until I tried to utilise some pagination. I can make the pagination work, and I can make the ordering work, but not at the same time! At the moment the code that I have will allow me to order the list and almost paginate it. There are 40 results and I want to display 10 at a time. When not using the ordering code I can paginate it perfectly but when I try to intergrate the two bits of code it will only display the first 10 results and not give me an option to go to the next page to see the rest!

I'm a researcher (and complete coding noob), and am planning a longitudinal study that requires e-mail follow-up with subjects taking an initial survey. For purposes of ethics/anonymity due to sensitive survey data, I'd like the acquired e-mails to be saved uncoupled from the survey responses; this is simple to deal with, and I use a basic PHP e-mail form, which injects the email address in a table in MySQL in a different server than the one used for the survey.

The issue is that the e-mails are saved in the MySQL database in order of injection, thus it is still theoretically possible for me to link the e-mails back to the survey responses (which have a time stamp that I cannot remove).  Ideally I would like not to be able (at all) to link the e-mails to the survey responses, and one way to do that (since I don't save the e-mail injection timestamps in MySQL) might be to have the e-mails saved in MySQL in a random order. Not sure if this is possible, and not even sure if this would be via PHP or MySQL side of things. The server is on godaddy and uses Starfield interface for MySQL but I cannot find an option for random insert/saving of table items (emails). They are saved in order of injection.
Any solution for this?

Hello all,

I am making a database with all the Boeing deliveries sorted by month. I made a index with all the months and when you click on a month you will get a full list of the type and quantity of aircraft that has been deliverd.

I have two problems and I can't figure it out.
The first problem I have, is that I want to show the visitors which airline has bougt which type of aircraft and how many.
The second problem I have is a want to show them the total amount of deliveries, not just per type of aircraft, but a total number.

Here are some shots of my problem and what I have:

This is how my MYSQL-database lookes like. The columns I have a id, day, month, year, airline, aircraft, amount (just a simple translation of the Dutch words ).
As you can see, there are some airlines that received one type of aircraft two times (TUI Travel PLC has received 2x Boeing 737-800). Keep this in mind, I will get back to this.


This is the table on my website. The first column shows the type of aircraft. The secon column shows us how many of that type has been deliverd. In the last column I want to have all the airlines that has received that type of aircraft. As I mentioned above, TUI Travel PLC has received 2x B737-800, so in the row of B737-800 I want to have TUI Travel PLC (2x). If the airline received more then 1 aircraft, I would like to have (.....x) (and the amount on the dots --> TUI example: 2 aircraft, so 2x). So you will get TUI Travel PLC (2x).

I'm currently learning PHP through tutorials and I am working on a webpage that filters statistics (crime records) from an SQL table and filters them by an option of years that the user has picked from a dropdown box.

$desiredyear = $_POST['year'] is the year picked from the drop down box on a different page.

I did not encounter any problems simply displaying the entire table until I tried to filter the crimes by year. I keep getting this error message.

Hey there, I have never really done pagination before and I was wondering if anyone can take a look at my code and help me with coding pagination? This database will be storing a lot of information and I am going to have the need to break it into multiple pages.

I have been given a task to create some SQL reports.

One of the reports is to display all the customers who have purchased a certain product based on user selection and then have those results able to be extracted to a mailing list.

So ive got the report done. Some drop down boxes allow a user to select a product and once submitted the results are then displayed.

But i dont even know where to begin with extracting those results to a mailing list. Could someone help me please? What method should I use? and where do i begin? BTW im a rookie with PHP/Mysql ive just got my first job since leaving university and this is a task ive been given at work so any quick and helpful replies are greatly appreciated

If I do this: foreach($projects as $project)
{
   echo $project->PROJECT_NAME;
}

I get "Undefined property: Database_MySQL_Result::$PROJECT_NAME"

If I do this:

foreach($projects as $project)
{
   echo $project[0];
}

the browser will display projects.id for the first returned row *only*

echo $project[1] returns the project.id for the second row only. And so on.

Each returned row contains over a dozen cells.

It's almost as if I'm referring to the array incorrectly, or referring to the wrong array. I feel as though I'm making a very simple (and perhaps dumb) mistake here, but can't quite figure out what it is. Thanks.
