PHP - Forms That Input Data To Mysql Tables
Guys, quick one.
Im writing a script for a form to post info into a MySql table. Now rather than just having a single row for input I'd like to have lets say 10 rows, so I can add 10 records to the database. What I'm pondering is 2 things: 1: can i just repeat Code: [Select] <input type="text" name="opponent" size="27" /> over and over, or is it going to need its own name each time for example; Code: [Select] <input type="text" name="opponent2" size="27" /> <input type="text" name="opponent3" size="27" /> 2: when it comes to the processing script is it more economical to have the forms input field named the same over and over (if it IS possible) and if not whats the most econimcal way to code my Code: [Select] $opp= $_POST['opponent']; $query="INSERT INTO fixtures (match_date, season, opponent) VALUES ('$date', '$season', '$opp',)"; Your help and comments are appreciated as always guys Tom Similar TutorialsI've been poking around online for about a day now trying to find a good way to do the following: I have an "order" I'm reading in from a MySQL database (not completely relevant, but just fyi). And, for this order there are a number of "parts" (automotive parts) that have been ordered. For each part there is data pertaining to the quantity of parts that have been ordered and the number of parts that have been allocated (based on our inventory) and then a third column that has the number of parts still in that order that are still to be allocated at a future date. Basically, I'm displaying this data in a form with each row having a checkbox to the far left. What I want to do is allow the user to check any number of check boxes. If a check box is checked the form should submit all of the input text boxes for that row (the user can update the quantities) that I talked about in the second paragraph for that "part" (each part is displayed in a row and has a checkbox). Unfortunately, most of the examples I found for checkboxes in a form submit a specific value (like a number of a letter). I need the form to submit the values that are in the textboxes. So basically, I'm thinking I need the page to update a PHP object whenever the value of a textbox is changed and then when the user clicks a button it will send the php object for each checked row through GET or POST. But, how would I get it to onchange update a PHP object (the PHP object would need to be a 2-D array where the first index allows you to select the part and the second index allows you to select which quantity you will change). I'm thinking I would need to call a script from the onchange like: onchange="somePHPfunction(partNumberIndex, whichQuantityI'mChanging, currentValueOfThatQuantity)" but of course that would require me to embed some php inside the onchange call since the partNumberIndex and whichQuantity are PHP variables.. Any ideas on how to do this sort of thing? Or any ideas on how to do this differently? I'm trying to avoid javascript because it would place a javascript constraint on the users. But, maybe there's no other way to do this sort of thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated! This portion is kind of stumping me. Basically, I have a two tables in this DB: users and users_access_level (Separated for DB normalization) users: id / username / password / realname / access_level users_access_level: access_level / access_name What I'm trying to do, is echo the data onto an HTML table that displays users.username in one table data and then uses the users.access_level to find users_access_level.access_name and echo into the following table data, I would prefer not to use multiple queries if possible or nested queries. Example row for users: 1234 / tmac / password / tmac / 99 Example row for users_access_level: 99 / Admin Using the examples above, I would want the output to appear as such: Username: Access Name: Tmac Admin I am not 100% sure where to start with this, but I pick up quickly, I just need a nudge in the right direction. The code I attempted to create just shows my lack of knowledge of joining tables, but I'll post it if you want to see that I did at least make an effort to code this myself. Thanks for reading! so I'm trying to change some specific columns in a row in a table of a MySQL database by calling the Doctrine_Query when an option is selected inside an admin panel of my website. Here are the details: Table name: chatUsers I need to find all rows with the person who has a username of: $chatUsers->username (The column inside chatUsers is called username) Once all those rows are found, change the value of all the row's column "type" to "user" Is this even possible? So far I have: [/list] Code: [Select] <?php function userChatReset(){ $query = Doctrine_Query::create()->update('db_chatUsers')->set('type', 'user')->where('username = '.$chatUsers->username); //execute query $rows = $query->execute(); echo $rows.' rows updated'; } ?> ...And I'm not sure where to go from there, or if that's even correct. Sorry in advance, I'm not very good with PHP yet. I have the following code, and really can't see what is wrong with it. Any help would be great. <?php if (!mysql_connect('127.0.0.1', 'root', '')) { echo 'Could not connect to mysql'; exit; } $dbname = 'Requests'; $result = mysql_list_tables($dbname); if (!$result) { echo "DB Error, could not list tables\n"; echo 'MySQL Error: ' . mysql_error(); exit; } while($row2 = mysql_fetch_row($result)) { foreach ($row2[0] as $table_id) { $query = "SELECT * FROM $table_id"; $dbresult = mysql_query($query); // added code to use the tablename and select all records from that table // create a new XML document $doc = new DomDocument('1.0'); // create root node $root = $doc->createElement('mixes'); $root = $doc->appendChild($root); // process one row at a time while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($dbresult)) { // add node for each row $occ = $doc->createElement($table_id); $occ = $root->appendChild($occ); // add a child node for each field foreach ($row as $fieldname => $fieldvalue) { $child = $doc->createElement($fieldname); $child = $occ->appendChild($child); $value = $doc->createTextNode($fieldvalue); $value = $child->appendChild($value); } // foreach } // while } } echo 'Wrote: ' . $doc->save("s.xml") . ' bytes'; // Wrote: 72 bytes ?> This topic has been moved to MySQL Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=305750.0 Hi all I have 3 tables Table_1, Table_2 and Table_3 Table_1 is a list of countries, with name and country_id Table_2 is a table that has 3 fields, id, name and description Table 3 is a table that has name, Table_2_id So what I need to do: Display the name and description field of Table_2 in a form Loop through the countries table and display each as an input box and display on the same form When I fill out the form details, the name/description must be inserted into Table_2, creating an id The input boxes data then also needs inserting into Table_3, with the foreign key of Table_2_id So a small example would be: Name: testing Description: this is a test Country of Australia: Hello Country of Zimbabwe: Welcome This means that in Table_2, I will have the following: ============================= | id | name | description | 1 | testing | this is a test ============================= Table_3 ============================= | Table_2_id | name | country_id | 1 | Hello | 20 | 1 | Welcome | 17 ============================= 20 is the country_id of Australia 17 is the country_id of Zimbabwe Code: Generating the input fields dynamically: $site_id = $this->settings['site_id']; $options = ''; $country_code = ''; $query = $DB->query("SELECT country_code, country_id, IF(country_code = '".$country_code."', '', '') AS sel FROM Table_1 WHERE site_id='".$this->settings['site_id']."' ORDER BY country_name ASC"); foreach ($query->result as $row) { $options .= '<label>' . 'Test for ' . $this->settings['countries'][$row['country_code']] . '</label>' . '<br />'; //$row['country_id'] is the country_id from Table_1 $options .= '<input style="width: 100%; height: 5%;" id="country_data" type="text" name="' . $row['country_id'] . '" value="GET_VALUE_FROM_DB" />' . '<br /><br />'; } echo $options; This outputs: Code: [Select] Textareas go here...... <label>Test for Australia</label> <input type="text" value="" name="20" id="country_data" style="width: 100%; height: 5%;"> <label>Test for Zimbabwe</label> <input type="text" value="" name="17" id="country_data" style="width: 100%; height: 5%;"> Now, I need to insert the value of the input field and it's country_id (20 or 17) into Table_3 and also Table_2_id. This then means I could get the value from Table_3 to populate 'GET_VALUE_FROM_DB' But I'm at a loss on how I'd do this. Could someone help me with this? Thanks I hope I can explain what is happening. I have created two forms in PHP. The first 'almost' works, i.e. it shows the data. But I have two problems - 1) the second pulldown menu is always empty and 2) $value from the first pulldown menu ALWAYS equals the last entry thus the last 'if' in the function subdomains ($domains) is always called (but still empty). The code may explain this better than me:
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <body> <!-- processDomains.php is this file - it calls itself (for testing purposes so I can see what is happening) --> <form action="processDomains.php" method="post"> <?php // create the domains array (there are actually several entries in the array but I cut it down for testing) $domains = array (1 => 'Decommission', 'Migration'); echo "Select Domain:"; echo "<br>"; // Make the domain pull-down menu - this displays correctly echo '<select name="domain">'; foreach ($domains as $key => $value) { echo "<option value=\"$key\">$value</option>\n"; } echo '</select>'; // input doesn't matter what is 'submitted', always goes to last $value echo '<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">'; // call function subdomains subdomains ($value); function subdomains ($domains) { // define values for each array - each array contains available choices for the subdomain pulldown menu $migration = array (1 => 'Application Migration', 'Application Patch', 'Application Upgrade'); $decommission = array (1 => 'Applications', 'Servers', 'Storage'); if ($domains === 'Migration') { echo "Select subdomain:"; echo "<br>"; // Make the Migration pull-down menu echo '<select name="migration">'; foreach ($migration as $key => $value) { echo "<option value=\"$key\">$value</option>\n"; } echo '</select>'; } else if ($domains === 'Decommission') { /* === * since 'Decommission' is the last entry in the 'Domains' pulldown list, $value ALWAYS equals * 'Decommission' and $domains equals $value. So this menu SHOULD work but is always * empty. Thus, two problems - the pulldown menu is always empty and $value isn't based * upon user input. */ echo "Select subdomain:"; // this prints so I know I'm in 'Decommission (I eliminated the echo "$domain" to show I'm always coming here)' echo "<br>"; // Make the 'Decommission' pull-down menu echo '<select name="decommission">'; foreach ($decommission as $key => $value) { echo "<option value=\"$key\">$value</option>\n"; } echo '</select>'; echo '<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">' ) // end of 'if-else' } // end of function 'subdomain' ?> </form> </body> </html>Let me say thank you in advance and I appreciate the help! I know I'm doing something (or more than one thing) wrong and I hope someone can tell me what it is. Best Regards! Edited by mac_gyver, 19 January 2015 - 09:37 PM. code tags around posted code please Hiya Let me start by saying I am completley new to any kind of server side scripting although I have created a few websites. A local company I created a site for is after a secure area where the admin person can login & fill in an online rota sheet & then the staff login as themselves & view this online. I guess I can create multi level users but, what is the best way to go about this? If I create a fillable form/tables for the admin user how do I then send this to be viewable, but not editable by the staff members. They are also after an online timesheet that each member of staff can fill in themselves but for it also to be editable by the admin user. I figured forms or table would be also suitable for this as no automatic calculations need to be made. Essentially it would be like a fillable PDF - but one step at a time. any pointers very much appreciated Here's a question for all you great php programmers. What I want to do is use a variable username as the name of a select input of a form. I.E echo"<select name='$user'>"; Of course this code doesn't work though I feel sure that there must be a way to do this. Anyone know it? Here is my code below. On all my forms, after I send an empty string to one field, it will stop accepting values when I resubmit. My code passes through the W3C validator Any ideas?? Hi, I have made a basic html site and it has two forms on it. I have the forms linking to a file called process.php. Basically i need to know what code to put in the php file in order for the forms to save whatever is entered in them to a txt file on my server or computer. Or any other easier way to do the same thing, save the content of two forms on my site. Hope i posted this in the right forum subject. Thanks very much for anyone that helps. I have two forms that I have created. I wonder if someone could point out where I am going wrong, all data is commented so it should be easier to understand. form1.php Code: [Select] <?php $digest = 0; $amount = 0; $trans_id = 0; $merchant = "so"; $remotepassword = "s0"; if ($_POST) { $digest_this = $_POST['trans_id'] + $_POST['amount'] + $remotepassword; //combine all my values to be md5'd $digest = md5($digest_this); //generate the md5 hash $amount = $_POST['amount']; //what I think I am doing here is posting the data so it can be retrived $trans_id = $_POST['trans_id']; //by a get request on from 2, this is where I need help $merchant = $_POST['merhcant']; $remotepassword = $_POST['remotepassword']; } // end $_POST ?> <form action="part2.php" method="post"> <p> <label for="trans_id">Invoice Number(s): </label> <input id="trans_id" type="text" name="trans_id" /><br /> <label for="amount">Amount Paying: </label> <input id="amount" type="text" name="amount" /><br /> <input value="Send" type="submit" /> <input type="reset" /> </p> </form> form2.php Code: [Select] <?php if ($_GET) { $digest = $_GET['digest']; //here I think I am retriving the data I sent with a post request $merchant = $_GET['merhcant']; //and then storing it in variables $remotepassword = $_GET['remotepassword']; $amount = $_GET['amount']; $trans_id = $_GET['trans_id']; } // end $_GET ?> <form action="https://www.secpay.com/java-bin/ValCard" method="post"> <p> <label for="firstname">First Name: </label> <input id="firstname" type="text" name="firstname" /><br /> <label for="lastname">Last Name: </label> <input id="lastname" type="text" name="lastname" /><br /> <label for="account">Account Number: </label> <input id="account" type="text" name="account" /><br /> <label for="housenumber">House Number/Name: </label> <input id="housenumber" type="text" name="housenumber" /><br /> <label for="postcode">Postcode: </label> <input id="postcode" type="text" name="postcode" /><br /> <label for="email">Email: </label> <input id="email" type="text" name="email" /><br /> <label for="notes">Notes: </label> <input id="notes" type="text" name="notes" /><br /> <!-- Here I have taken all the inputs from the form that are required to be sent --> <!-- and given the input_id names as the values required by the pay point servers --> <input name="callback" value="http://www.sol.co.uk/authorised;http://www.sol.co.uk/declined" type="hidden" /> <input name="merchant" value="<?php echo "$merhcant"; ?>" type="hidden" /> <!--here I am populating hidden fields with php script data--> <input name="remotepassword" value="<?php echo "$remotepassword"; ?>" type="hidden" /> <input name="req_cv2" value="true" type="hidden" /> <input name="options" value="test_status=true" type="hidden" /> <input name="digest" value="<?php echo "$digest"; ?>" type="hidden" /> <!-- Here I have defined all of the constant hidden values that never change --> <!-- Now in this section of the form I have defined the value that will change, combining the three fields --> <!-- that are required in order to create the digest value --> <input value="Send" type="submit" /> <input type="reset" /> </p> </form> Thanks for looking, I think its something basic im missing, first time doing this if you hadnt of guessed Iv tried asking a lot of people and have had no luck resolving this issue, so I will try here. I have created a Form which gathers its information from a Database. The first form is a Dropdown Option, which when submitted takes you to another page. The new page is Supposed to use the value from the Dropdown to search the database and return the proper rows to populate a few text areas to edit the values. This is where I am stuck. Compared to what most of you create this is probably sloppy and not too well structured, but I am new to this. Anyways, I will provide more information below now. The following is the initial page with the first form. This is where you would select what page you wish to edit. (I believe this may be where the issue resides) - (I included the 'num' value before the 'name' value so that I could see it is getting the value from the database, which it is) <form method="post" action="pageedit.php"><br /> <?php include "config.php"; echo "<select name=\"page\">\n"; $conn = mysql_connect("localhost", "$username", "$password"); if (!$conn) { echo "Unable to connect to DB: " . mysql_error(); exit; } if (!mysql_select_db("$database")) { echo "Unable to select $database: " . mysql_error(); exit; } $sql = "SELECT * FROM sitePages"; $result = mysql_query($sql); if (!$result) { echo "Could not successfully run query ($sql) from DB: " . mysql_error(); exit; } if (mysql_num_rows($result) == 0) { echo "No rows found, nothing to print so am exiting"; exit; } while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { echo "<option value='"; echo $row['num']; echo "'>"; echo $row['num']; echo " - "; echo $row['name']; echo "</option>"; } echo "</select>"; ?> <br /> <input type="submit" /> </form> And then the following is the page that the form is sent to when submitted: (I have attempted to Echo the 'num' value sent so that I could verify that it is indeed sent, but it is not. I will post the message I receive after the PHP snippet <form method="post" action="pageeditinsert.php"><br /> <?php include "config.php"; echo $_POST['num']; $num=$_POST['num']; $conn = mysql_connect("localhost", "$username", "$password"); if (!$conn) { echo "Unable to connect to DB: " . mysql_error(); exit; } if (!mysql_select_db("$database")) { echo "Unable to select $database: " . mysql_error(); exit; } $sql = "SELECT * FROM sitepages WHERE num = '$num'"; $result = mysql_query($sql); if (!$result) { echo "Could not successfully run query ($sql) from DB: " . mysql_error(); exit; } if (mysql_num_rows($result) == 0) { echo "No rows found, nothing to print so am exiting"; exit; } while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { echo "<input name'num' type='hidden' class='form1' value='"; echo $num; echo "' maxlength='10' id='cat' /><br /><br /><br />"; echo "<input name='name' type='text' class='form1' value='"; echo $row['name']; echo "' maxlength='20' id='name' /><br /><br />"; echo "<input name='desc' type='text' class='form1' value='"; echo $row['desc']; echo "' maxlength='100' id='desc' /><br /><br /><br />"; echo "<input name='title' type='text' class='form1' value='"; echo $row['title']; echo "' maxlength='100' id='title' /><br /><br /><br />"; echo "<input name'cat' type='hidden' class='form1' value='cat' maxlength='3' id='cat' /><br /><br /><br />"; } ?> <br /><br /><br /> <center><input type="submit" /><input type="reset" /></center> </form> Below is the message I receive when attempting to echo the POSTed 'num' value: Quote Notice: Undefined index: num in C:\wamp\www\gondieCOM\editor\edit\pageedit.php on line 16 Call Stack # Time Memory Function Location 1 0.0025 687600 {main}( ) ..\pageedit.php:0 (I am running the latest WAMP release on my personal PC for testing purposes until I have finished this and upload it to my hosting server) Anyways thanks for your time. In the below example I am using two while loops, where the second one is nested inside first one, that check two different expressions fetching data from tables found in a MySQL database. The second expression compares the two tables IDs and after their match it displays the email of the account holder in each column in the HTML table. The main problem is that the 'email' row is displayed properly while its while expression is not nested and alone(meaning the other data is omitted or commented out), but either nested or neighbored to the first while loop, it is displayed horizontally and the other data ('validity', 'valid_from', 'valid_to') is not displayed.'
Can someone help me on this, I guess the problem lies in the while loop? <thead> <tr> <th data-column-id="id" data-type="numeric">ID</th> <th data-column-id="email">Subscriber's Email</th> <th data-column-id="validity">Validity</th> <th data-column-id="valid_from">Valid From</th> <th data-column-id="valid_to">Valid To</th> </tr> </thead> Here is part of the PHP code:
<?php while($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { echo ' <tr> <td>'.$row["id"].'</td> '; while ($row1 = $stmt1->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { echo ' <td>'.$row1["email"].'</td> '; } if($row["validity"] == 1) { echo '<td>'.$row["validity"].' month</td>'; }else{ echo '<td>'.$row["validity"].' months</td>'; } echo ' <td>'.$row["valid_from"].'</td> <td>'.$row["valid_to"].'</td> </tr>'; } ?>
Thank you. This could be PHP or MySql so putting it in PHP forum for now... I have code below (last code listed) which processes a dynamically created Form which could have anywhere from 0 to 6 fields. So I clean all fields whether they were posted or not and then I update the mySQL table. The problem with this code below is that if, say, $cextra was not posted (i.e. it wasnt on the dynamically created form), then this code would enter a blank into the table for $cextra (i.e. if there was already a value in the table for $cextra, it gets overwritten, which is bad). What is the best way to handle this? I'm thinking i have to break my SQL query into a bunch of if/else statements like this... Code: [Select] $sql = "UPDATE cluesanswers SET "; if (isset($_POST['ctext'])){ echo "ctext='$ctext',"; } else { //do nothing } and so on 5 more times.... That seems horribly hackish/inefficient. Is there a better way? Code: [Select] if (isset($_POST['hidden']) && $_POST['hidden'] == "edit") { $cimage=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['cimage'])); $ctext=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['ctext'])); $cextra=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['cextra'])); $atext=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['atext'])); $aextra=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['aextra'])); $aimage=trim(mysql_prep($_POST['aimage'])); //update the answer edits $sql = "UPDATE cluesanswers SET ctext='$ctext', cextra='$cextra', cimage='$cimage', atext='$atext', aextra='$aextra', aimage='$aimage'"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection); if (!$result) { die("Database query failed: " . mysql_error()); } else { } Hi, I am trying to write an input form for a table that the fields contains codes of records from other tables. Is there a way that after each field I can retrieve (validate) the value of the fields that contain a code from a table and display them on the screen when the use move to the next field? The table is a customers order and I want to validate and display the customer name after they key in the customer code and the same for the product's code. Thank!
