PHP - Update Cart

Hey guys,

Lovely forum. So I'm building a simple shopping cart from php and mysql. Whenever I update the quantity of the item that I want, I don't want it to duplicate all of the information but instead want it to merge the quantity together.

Below is an example of what happens. Note that Test Item has been added to the cart 3 separate times with different quantities (2, 1, and 1). How can I merge this information to show Test Item once with the total quantity? I know it's some kind of merge, but I'm a coding noob. Thanks!

This is the code that I'm using for a shopping cart in order to update the quantity if the same product id is chosen. 

$cart_items is a two-dimensional session array composed of the id session array and the quantity session array. While looping through $cart_items, I create a temporary array $temp_array so that I can execute some logic on the array without changing the normal output. $temp_array is the $cart_items array without the last items which would be the $_REQUEST id and the $_REQUEST quantity. So the two $_REQUESTs are popped off with array_pop and then the remaining $_SESSIONs are compared to the $_REQUEST id with 

$j = array_search($_REQUEST["element_id_$i"], $temp_array);
$j is now the key that corresponds to the id in $temp_array where the $_REQUEST id has been found.

If $j is the key of the item in $temp_array, then the $_REQUEST is unset and the quantities for the item are added together. 

There are two problems with this code. First of all the var_dump of the $temp_array is always an empty array but I am expecting to get an array with just the last element popped off. Secondly, 
I get the error "Undefined offset" for the $i variable in this line of the code: if( $j==$temp_array[$i])

Hey again,

Still on the same project but now doing the cart page.  I've been bringing my skills up to date a lot doing this project, however, having said that I now can't figure out why my cart is not adding the items to the cart, i've checked the post data and the quantity is set to 1.  Would really appreciate someone having a look at it and hopefully can see what i'm missing.

Can anyone post a generic update function to update mysql table.
The manual approach:

what Im basically trying to do is just like a phpmyadmin function... you select rows you want to update with a checkbox and then it takes you to a page where the rows that are clicked are shown in forms so that you can view and edit info in them... and then have 1 submit button to update them all at once.

Hi Guys,

I want my UPDATE function from the code below to only update those fields that are NOT empty - if they are empty on submit then do not update or change any values from that field. I know that sounds odd, but with my file fields, when I submit to change something else at a later date it will overwrite the photo, download1,2 & 3 values and as a result I loose my files from the mysql table.

My question is. How do I update this info into the database with the proper info. ie. Update.php?

I'm new to PHP and I was able to figure out how to populate data from my database into my text fields. I am trying to add the update information to the same php file; however, I am now receiving errors within the data I was able to populate,

I created this code to upload a member's main picture on his member page on website.  I'll only include the query part of the code since that's what is relevant to my problem.  The idea is basically to upload a new picture onto the database if no picture already exists for that member and display the picture on the page.  If a picture already exists, then the script replaces the old picture with the new one upon upload.    But for whatever reason
I don't understand,  when I try to replace the old pic, it gets inserted in a new row on the database instead of replacing the old row, and the new pic gets displayed on the web page alongside the old. Code: [Select]

So can anyone tell me what the problem is?  Could the fact that my insert script actually uploads the image onto a folder on my server and only stores the path name in the database have anything to contribute to the mixup?  Appreciate your responses in advance.

ok im making a shooping cart how do i make it so it remembers that items people add to the cart

I got my hands in a php tutorial about creating a custom cart using only php. The thing is that, the code is working like that:
1. you see the items in the items.php page
2. you click on an item to open it in a new page and see full description
3. the add button is in the specific item's page and that's how the code works. Grabs the URL' s id variable and then get's processed.

What I want:
1. To modify the code a little bit in order to have the add button into the into my items.php page so I skip the view full description link (I just don't like it as a requirement to add something to cart)

Hello everyone

I have coded a php cart for my website. I coded one myself instead of using a big box because it is a membership based sites where users use credits to order not cash.

I have a 'Sizes' table with (size_id and size_name) and a 'Sizes_List' table with (size_id and product_id) which stores the size options of each product. It is displayed fine on the product page.

Anyhoo. It works great.. there aren't any actual errors in the code but I am having trouble with 3 things..

1. displaying the product size [i grab it in $_POST and add it to the cart_array) but it doesn't show up.
2. If I add another product, but a different size, to the cart it just changes the quantity of the product but doesn't add a new line.
3. I need to put items on "hold" for a certain amount of time (e.g. if you add a pair of True Religions in size 32 to your cart they are no longer available to anybody for 20 minutes and if you don't checkout they are back in the store).

For the purpose of this question I have removed the need to be logged in for 1 product page and the cart.
