PHP - Advice On Way To Filter What Db Fields Specific Users Can/can't See
Novice in way over head here!
Created a mySQL db. populated with a bunch of data in one table. have a simple file based login/authentication system that i've setup. now im looking to establish some sort of process where specific users login and see specific fields. something like if userX see fields 1,2,4. if userY see fields 1,2,3. SQL statements?? im completely lost on the logic how that might be best created. hoping someone might point me in right direction...been spinning wheels. I come from a desktop (vb.net) background and have used oridinary text files for my databases. I use file locking to prevent other processes from writing to the same file simultaneously.
Now I am moving over the PHP/MySQL - what precautions should I take to stop a simultaneous processes from writing to a table at the same time.?
Do I need to lock the table before writing to it?
Does MySQL deal with this automatically and just block my process until the table becomes free?
(I am talking about a single table here, not multiple dependant tables - I know that is another issue)
Thanks

I recently wrote a web app made with flash that communicates with php scripts on my web server(apache2). Like most others, I believe my web app is the end all be all and could potentially attract millions of users Ok, long story short, in the long haul, there will be people using robots to communicate with my php scripts to do tasks that are in the game in order to cheat. I'd like to limit these users from hammering the server with robotic requests. I no for a fact that no human will make requests to my game more than once per two seconds or so. So is it best for me to somehow do this type of code with php? or maybe at the apache level somehow? My flash application can detect http error status codes for each request so if any solution would cause a non standard 200, that is fine, i should be able to detect the code, and wait a couple seconds on the flash client, then do a retry hopefully I'm lost on this one and would appreciate some help Was just wondering if it's okay to make simple donations to other users on the forum. Just out of generosity.
If true, if I want to make a donation to a specific user how would I go about doing it? Just pm them asking for their paypal?
Edited by Monkuar, 12 October 2014 - 12:08 PM. Hi, i'm new here and hope i've finally found a forum where i can find the perfect solution for my questions.
Well since a year now i started to work with PHP and still now and then there are some things where i seize on. My question is on of those situations.
I have the following code:
if (isset($_POST)){ foreach ($_POST as $key => $value){ if (!empty($value)){ $update_rma_detail_stmt = $dbh->prepare("UPDATE rma_detail SET $key = ? WHERE rd_rma_nr = ?"); $update_rma_detail_stmt->bindParam(1, $value); $update_rma_detail_stmt->bindParam(2, $getadmrmaid); $update_rma_detail_stmt->execute(); } } }All i want is when there is an empty (not filled in) input field because it is not mandatory the foreach still continuous to the end. When i use if (!empty($value)){It still outputs these error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1366 Incorrect integer value: ' ' However, when i dont use i got an other error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[22007]: Invalid datetime format: 1292 Incorrect date value: '' It is however so that the datetime is the very first empty field it come across when looping. I think my if (!empty($value)){ is doing the right thing but still gives error's on integers. Can it be? I allready tried to use trim() or array_filter() but because i previously never used it i dont know if i am doing it the right way so any help is welkom! Thanks! This topic has been moved to Miscellaneous. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=341970.0 I'm storing website files online and each user can upload their own files and admin can upload files for that user specifically. How would I go about making sure nobody else can download their PDF file? Would it be a case of assigning a folder for each user's documents and not allowing access to any other user to that folder?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I have a settings page which updates the users details. However, I want their current details displayed in the form fields, but I cannot get any result. I have only tried to echo out the first name first, but can't seem to get that to work.
<?php session_start(); error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', '1'); $username = $_SESSION['loggedinuser']; //MySqli Select Query require( 'database.php' ); $results = $con->query("SELECT * have a table (applicant) that has a number of fields but included a applicantid party1 party2 party3 party4 party5 Any number of these party entries could have data in them but I need to know, for any specific applicantid, the count of how many non null entries there are. I can't find a way to do it. Does anyone have any ideas. Many thanks Hello
I am trying to work out how many regular users I have to my site and how long those users tend to be users..
So, I have a table that logs every time a user visits my site and logs in, it stores the date / time as a unix timestamp and it logs their user id.
I started by getting the id's of any user who logs in more than 5 times in a specified period, but now I want to extend that...
SELECT userID as user, count(userID) as logins FROM login_history where timestamp > UNIX_TIMESTAMP('2014-06-01 00:00:00') and timestamp < UNIX_TIMESTAMP('2014-07-01 00:00:00') group by user having logins > 5; I just discovered that I have a major security flaw with my website. Anyone who logs in to the website can easily access other users information as well as delete and edit other users information just by changing the ID variable in the address bar. I have user ID Session started on these pages but still people can do anything they like with other users information just by editing the address bar. For example if your logged in in the address bar of www.mywebsite.com/delete_mystuff.php?id=5 and change the "5" say to a "9" then you will have access to user#9 information. Every important page that I have has this code: Code: [Select] session_start(); if (!isset($_SESSION['user_id'])) { // Start defining the URL. $url = 'http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); // Check for a trailing slash. if ((substr($url, -1) == '/') OR (substr($url, -1) == '\\') ) { $url = substr ($url, 0, -1); // Chop off the slash. } // Add the page. $url .= '/index.php'; ob_end_clean(); // Delete the buffer. header("Location: $url"); exit(); // Quit the script. } else { //Else If Logged In Run The Script if((isset($_GET['id'])) && (is_numeric($_GET['id']))) { $id = (int) $_GET['id']; } elseif ((isset($_POST['id'])) && (is_numeric($_POST['id']))) { $id = (int) $_POST['id']; } else { echo ' No valid ID found, passed in url or form element'; exit(); } What am I doing wrong? Please help if you know how to correct this. Many thanks in advance. I use the Wholesale Suite Premium Prices plugin with WooCommerce. I have 6 specific wholesale roles out of 15 that I wish to hide two specific shipping methods from being selected for the 6 exceptions. I'm just trying this on my staging server at this time using a code snippet example that I found and modified for my specific conditions. Would the following work for this purpose? /* Hide specific shipping methods for specific wholesale roles */ add_filter( 'woocommerce_package_rates', function( $shipping_rates ) { // User role and shipping method ID to hide for the user role $role_shipping_method_arr = array( 'ws_silvia_silver' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_silver_pst_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_silver_tax_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_silver' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_silver_pst_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_silver_tax_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold_pst_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold_tax_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Premium Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold_pst_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), 'ws_silvia_gold_tax_exempt' => array( 'Silvia Union Standard Shipping (Tracking Service)'), ); // Getting the current user role $curr_user = wp_get_current_user(); $curr_user_data = get_userdata($current_user->ID); // Wholesale Suite Roles if (isset($current_user) && class_exists('WWP_Wholesale_Roles')) { $wwp_wholesale_roles = WWP_Wholesale_Roles::getInstance(); $wwp_wholesale_role = $wwp_wholesale_roles->getUserWholesaleRole(); // Loop through the user role and shipping method pair foreach( $role_shipping_method_arr as $role => $shipping_methods_to_hide ) { // Check if defined role exist in current user role or not if( in_array( $role, $current_user->roles) ) { // Loop through all the shipping rates foreach( $shipping_rates as $shipping_method_key => $shipping_method ) { $shipping_id = $shipping_method->get_id(); // Unset the shipping method if found if( in_array( $shipping_id, $shipping_methods_to_hide) ) { unset($shipping_rates[$shipping_method_key]); } } } } } return $shipping_rates; }); Any insights as to how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. Lyse Hey guys,
Thank you in advance... here is my situation, I have a form with three (3) fields in it, the 'student name' is unlimited textfield with an "add more" button to it and I have two select fields ('number of shirts' and 'trophies') that depend on the number of entries for 'student name'...
I want to create the select fields based on this math, for as many 'student name' entries:
1- i want to have the select form for 'number of shirts' to be 0 up to that number... so if there are 6 'student name' entries, the select options will be 0,1,3,4,5,6,7
2- I want to have the select form for 'trophies' to be 5 'student name' entries to 1 'trophies', for example if there are 6 'student name' entries, the select options will be 0,1... if there are 13 entries, options will be 0,1,2... So if there are less than 5 'student name' entries, the select field will not show (hidden)
of course if there are no 'student name' entries, these two fields won't show up (hidden)
let me know if that make sense and ANY help or directions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thanks guys!
Code: [Select] SELECT * FROM table1,table2,table3,table4,table5 WHERE table1_f = table2_id AND table1_g = table3_id AND table4_p = table1_id AND table5 _m = table4_id ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1 Right, Now What I want to do, is have a filter form, which posts to the above, and if: $filter1 = ""; it wont be include in the above code $filter1 = "word"; then i want to include AND table3_n = '$filter1'; in the above code thanks in advance. Hi. I was hoping someone could tell me whether this is possible and if so how I could go about doing it preferably with a tutorial as im pretty new to programming. I have a database that will contain 100's of records. I want users to be able to select filter parameters on this data by both text and checkboxes with it automatically updating the results (hopefully without page reload). I managed this so far using this Jquery filter script: http://www.picnet.com.au/picnet-table-filter.html. As this will table will have so many rows however I think it would take ages to load so instead I would like to paginate the table but still allow filters applied to affect all records not just the ones displayed on the current page. Any ideas on how i could do this? Thanks in advance for your help. Hi,

<td class="maintxt" width="200"><a href="profile.php?x=Stranger">Stranger</a></td><td class="maintxt" width="200">Godfather (96.76%)</td><td class="maintxt" width="200"><i><a href="clanprofile.php?x=Ettertjes">Ettertjes</a></i></td>Form this line I want to set the word "Stranger" in a variable, and do the same for the word "Godfather". What is the best method to do this? Thanks in advance, iRoot121 How do I know if Filter extension is on with my webhost? Or does it always work with PHP5? If I cannot use it, can someone recommend a good regex to validate EMAIL addresses?? Thanks, Debbie so I'm running a query on a database to get address's $address = $row['address']; it returns "1234 Test St" I want to be able to sort all the records by the street name without the numbers HI all, Yesterday i read quite alot about htmlentities() htmlspecialchars() mysql_real_escape_string But today i stumbled upon filter() (http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_filter.asp). Does anyone know if this is also a good way to sanitize and may even be an alternative for the other functions? OR is it something completly different? I am still a novice with this so please enlighten me : ) TY Hi,
I want to use an external rss in my site but the problem is that i only want to grab feeds that contain certain keywords in the title,
This is what i got so far to display the feed:
<?php $html = ""; $url = "http://www.feedsite.com/conv-rss.asp"; $xml = simplexml_load_file($url); for($i = 0; $i < 5; $i++){ $title = $xml->channel->item[$i]->title; $link = $xml->channel->item[$i]->link; $description = $xml->channel->item[$i]->description; $pubDate = $xml->channel->item[$i]->pubDate; $html .= "<a href='$link'><h3>$title</h3></a>"; $html .= "$description"; $html .= "<br />$pubDate<hr />"; } echo $html; ?>The feed is a classified jobs but i only need the jobs listed for musicians, keywords could be: bassist, singer, drummer, musician, etc..
