PHP - Set Mod_rewrite For Php Download Link

Hi,

I have one webhost (A) that supports no PHP and has unlimited bandwidth.
I have a second webhost (B) that does support PHP, but has limited bandwidth.

The website is on host A and contains a 5mb file that people can download and I'd like to count the downloads. But now I need to use host B to count the downloads.

I'm using this small script on host B to count the downloads.

The download link people see on my website is: http://webhost-B.com/download.php

Generally this works fine, but I found out that people can still find the direct link with download managers and then put that direct link on their website, which prevents me from counting those downloads.

A solution I found is to use ReadFile. But the problem is that when using ReadFile, host B first downloads the file from host A and then sends it to the user and that's exactly what I don't want.

Is it possible to let people download the file directly from host A without showing the direct download link in any way and also count the downloads?

So I am trying to download an image created with my php script.  I use the following for the download:

The file downloads however instead of downloading  "example.jpg" from the /temp folder , it downloads "temp_example.jpg"  which of course is an empty file.

I am sure I am approaching this the wrong way, any suggestions?

Hey guys,
I'm going to start working on a simple php/mysql project, and wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction. Here is what I want to do:

1. User is presented with a simple form asking a series of questions (including email address)
2. Based on the answers, a specific download link is emailed to the user
3. store all inputted information in the database.

I'm still not sure if I want the email process to be automated, or "held" until the information is reviewed, then download link sent.

Does anyone know if a script already exist for this? I don't need to create user accounts, I just want to obtain user information every time they want to download something.

Basically I would like to place a link on my website and have the user download a file, but rather than just right clicking and choosing save target as, the link must be clicked, on the next page the file is fetched and then the client can download the file. How would I go about setting this up please?

When the download appears the link that is produced doesn't show the actual download either, so users can't leech of it.

I have a directory on my site named "spanish", and I would like any webpage in that directory to be translated to spanish automatically. So is there a way to tell mod_rewrite to add the following string (below) to the beginning of the URL ONLY IF the webpage is in the directory "spanish"?

String I'm trying to add to beginning of URL
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=en&tl=es&u=

So say the url was:
www.optimumhealthcare.org/spanish/page.html

I would want it to change that URL to:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=en&tl=es&u=www.optimumhealthcare.org/spanish/page.html

Hey guys.

I currently have my website set up 'generating' php pages, rather than simply getting data off the database. Which is silly. I have no rectified that issue but end up with ugly urls such as

http://www.worldwidelighthouses.com/Lighthouses/English-Lighthouses/Trinity-House-Owned/Lighthouse.php?Lighthouses=Beachy-Head

Whats the best way to translate that into

http://www.worldwidelighthouses.com/Lighthouses/English-Lighthouses/Trinity-House-Owned/Beachy-Head

Im hopeless with apaches mod_rewrite...

A few questions about mod_rewrites...

1.) If I want to determine if the URL ends with either "list" or "gallery", and then take appropriate action, does the code below look correct?

	RewriteRule shop/(.+)/([list|gallery])$  shop/catalog.php?category=$1&view=2 [L]
	

 

2.) Is it bad to use mod_rewrites to determine how your website branches?

For example...

	RewriteRule shop/music/(.*)$  go somewhere [L]
	RewriteRule shop/movies/(.*)$  go somewhere else [L]
	RewriteRule shop/books/(.*)$  go yet somewhere else [L]
	

 

 

I am trying to handle 404 errors to mainly pdf files that used to reside in a different directory but have now moved permanantly to a new directory.  I have tired many variations for the rewrite and none have worked or even given me errors to make me think I am kind on the right track.   This is the line I have tried using

I have also tried putting the line in question above the RewriteBase, putting an absolute url for both directories and removed/moved slashes before/after just about everything but nothing has worked.   Any insight is appreciated!

Hello. I've set up pagination for my results. I do this with a class. I also have pretty urls with mod_rewrite.

I'm wondering how to echo the urls for the paginated data.

Currently I have this below for the links. this is in my page.class.php file. I call for it with an include.
$links .= ' ' . $prefix . '<a href="' . $this->php_self . '?' . $this->append . '&page=' . $i . '">' . $i . '</a>' . $suffix . ' ';

This echos out a link like this which is in my tag page.

/index.php?menu=tags&tag=action&page=2

My mod_rewrite works and looks like this
/tags/action/page/2

Question is.. How do I change the url in my first code to work with my mod_rewrite?

I'm using this class through my whole site so I don't want to just add /tags/ to the first code.. Any ideas?
