PHP - Help Needed Pulling Text Links Into A Navigation. Please

I'm importing some text files from my windows servers in to a SQL database, but I'm running in to what I think is some sort of issue with either a special character or something to do with UTF-8, or UTF-16... I haven't dealt with this before, so I'm really not even sure.

I read in the file as such:

The text file itself contains the data formatted like this:

If I simply echo out this data:

It'll come out in Firefox like the following. And I can see FF is choosing to view it as Western (ISO-8859-1), but if I choose to use Unicode (UTF-16) then the data displays correctly.

So basically, I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to convert the ASCII to UTF-8 or if I just need to do a bunch of str_replace to correct the data before inserting.
I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions anyone has.

I thought that the following code would work, but it does not, well because there is no spaces around the above word

My users can post comments. I want to turn the hidden links within those comments into clickable URLs. I have the following function to do this:

I know that the regex is pretty bad. It kind of works, but makes every single thing with a period into a link, and messes up sometimes with target= portion where it will actually display that.

I've tried a bunch of other regex's but every single one gives me problems, typically like "php unknown modifier ]" or ")" or something.

here's how I call this function when users hit submit in the comment field:

I'm trying to make my text and images into clickable links. The images and text are in a database so its getting really tricky for me since I'm new to PHP. I've tried many different ways without success.

Here is a snippet of the code I'm working with. As you can see, I'm also working with an image re-sizer. I would really like to make those images and text

I am am looking to develop further the code below. This code allows me to display a left navigation bar with Main Links and then if you click a Main link, that link is listed first in the list and its' submenu appears below. For the majority of links in the navigation bar this is fine. But for about 2 of the Main links this basic navigation is not suitable.

I need the navigation for 2 of the links to offer more depth. So, for example, if you click Accessories in:

Accessories

Looks like this if Accessories is clicked:

Currently the code does not allow for this depth in the navigation bar. Any ideas how it could be done? Do I need additional tables for each subcategory. How do I ensure the category clicked does not appear in the rest of the navigation bar, as in the code I have at the moment?

So I'm having issue with trying to pull the ID from my database out correctly.
This is the ideal way I want the ID to be pulled.

This has been bugging me for 24 hours now. I have created 2 web applications. The first one is the dummy, and the second one is the final. Basically, this two web applications does the same, just a few modifications made on the final one. I have a process of pulling out of information from the database should the user would want to modify a field. I have a problem though, the dummy one works perfectly, but the new one don't. In fact, if I use the dummy php file together with the new files, the dummy won't be working. But if I use it together with the old files, it works perfectly fine.

FOr some reason i cant pull data from an XML file to insert into the database, it works without error just adds a blank value in the database?

i have this code at the moment, i guess arrayValue[71] is the value i need to pull and add to the "TABLE2" table, but when i run the script it just adds a blank value in the database?

Hi. I am trying to figure out the best approach to pull THE most recent record for display, and ONLY the most recent one. I am really not sure how to go about doing this. Ive just started into stored procedure programming and php, but havent found anything yet on this one. Thanks.

I'm not sure I know how to explain what I want to allow you to understand. I'm working on a ventilation app that has different fan sizes. In the input php file I have a dropdown list that's populated by what's in the database. I'd like a results page that lists the fan size and number of each size and the cfm's each fan kicks out. the problem is that I don't know how to do anything with it other than hard code it.

What I'd like, is for it to also pull all of the fan sizes and list them, that way the database can be fluid.   This is the code I'd like to replace with some sort of loop.    //9" fan

I have a PDF form that generates an XFDF file (form field valies in XML form) and I am passing it to PHP for processing. I am having trouble pulling a specific value from the XML block because of the way that the XML data is generated and organized. Please see a sample of the XML block below:

I have been kicking around some code that I thought should work, but doesn't appear to. If anyone could offer any insight to get it working that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,
Would anyone know how to fix this code to work so that when a user fills out a simple form it update a row in my database? The code below doesn't get the parameters from the form. 
The $sql = 'UPDATE services SET `Description` = "$description1" WHERE ID=1'; line works perfect only its putting in the $description literally no form parameters??
I have a feeling I need to handle this a different way but other trys with different code were not successful.
