PHP - Random Content Displayed On Website
Hi to everyone ,
I have used PHP for some basic things in my previous website design but am now venturing into another website for which I have a more complex use for PHP. I plan on making business directory for my local area. People will click on the area of their choice followed by the business type that they require. Then on the results page, they will have a list of all the business types in that particular area. What I would like to be able to do is rather than have the results displayed on the page like this : A Plumber xxxxx xxxxxx Tel: xxxxx xxxxxx Web: xxxxx xxxxxx E-Mail: xxxxx xxxxxx Best Plumber xxxxx xxxxxx Tel: xxxxx xxxxxx Web: xxxxx xxxxxx E-Mail: xxxxx xxxxxx Top Plumber xxxxx xxxxxx Tel: xxxxx xxxxxx Web: xxxxx xxxxxx E-Mail: xxxxx xxxxxx I would like it so that the same businesses are displayed on the page but either: 1) In a random order each time someone loads the page or 2) In a random order changed every hour The aim is so the businesses all have a shot at appearing nearer the top and aren't penalised for the 1st letter of their company name. Any help on this would be much appreciated, Thank You Similar TutorialsHi, I will start off trying to explain what I am trying to make the best I can. What I want to create is a script that gets the gold value from this website: http://www.lbma.org.uk/pages/index.cfm?page_id=46&title=current_statistics and then save it to a variable which I will use to calculate values of different gold karats. Here is the content in bold I need on the website I linked: Quote LONDON GOLD FIXING USD GBP EUR AM 1588.00 1005.127 1251.083 PM 1589.50 1004.741 1249.803 So what help do I need? Well, I don't expect you to figure out the calculating part for me but some help how to get that content pointed out above and save it to a variable is what I would appreciate getting some help with. I don't know much PHP, only some and I have been trying to figure this out for a day now without any success. I suppose php get contents and/or curl should be used here but I don't know how really. I would very much appreciate the help I can get on this. Thank you! Hi I'm wondering how I would go by making some sort of scrip for my website that loads random content from different files on my web server. Preferably php coding and maybe some mysql coding for an example I would like to have different folders on my web server lets say I have ( File 1 ) and in file 1 I have files named "cover.jpg" and "description.txt" and maybe some other files too and the same thing in other files on the web server So how would I go by making some thing that can load up these different files on the web server, like I said that will load up the content in each of the files every time the page refreshes or press of a button. Thanks This topic has been moved to MySQL Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=319085.0 Not sure where to put this, so I figured this would be a good place to start.
First:
I host a website for a client through iPage.com called Authentic Log Houses at authenticloghouses.com.
This website uses a wordpress platform.
Anyway, on with the issue. My client called me one day and said a text ad showed up on his navigation menu of the website selling viagra! Immediately the worst case scenario went through my mind. I told him I'd check it out as soon as I could. I got home and checked his website using Chrome (my preferred browser) only to find it exactly as it should be (with no ad). I assumed at that point that he was probably the only one that could see the link and was probably just dealing with a virus or malware that was affecting his browser.
I told him he should run an antivirus or malware removal program and see if he still saw the ad. He did, but found nothing. He then called his brother and asked him to view his website to see if the ad appeared. It did. I checked again on my computer, still nothing. Finally I decided to try a different browser than Chrome and found that Firefox, IE, Safari, and Opera ALL show the ad!
I still don't know why every browser except Chrome shows the ad, but now that I could duplicate the issue, I eliminated the possibility of a virus or malware since multiple computers showed the same ad (which changes from time to time). I viewed the source code to see where it may have been coming from and it simply showed an anchor tag with a link to a random website in the main nav menu outside the un-ordered list that the website uses, however, I cannot find that link in the source files.
I spoke with iPage's technical support to see if they had any ideas and they said to update all my plugins and install the "Link Removal Tool" and enter the linked url. They said this tool has helped many people and works really well. Nothing worked for me. I even tried their "Pro" version (which is still free o_O) and it seemed to be nothing but spam, so now I don't trust them in the least.
The current text ad can be view on the website in green in the top navigation bar saying "Payday loans direct lender no teletrack" and links to a 404 at worldwiderssfeedcompendium.com.
I'm currently out of ideas! Any help would be awesome. I've never seen this before! I can upload any files if necessary.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Hello! I would like to use cURL to login to the website: lockerz.com I have some code, but it doesn't seem to work: <?php // INIT CURL $ch = curl_init(); // SET URL FOR THE POST FORM LOGIN curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://lockerz.com/auth/login'); // ENABLE HTTP POST curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1); // SET POST PARAMETERS : FORM VALUES FOR EACH FIELD curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, 'email-email=EMAIL@hotmail.com&password-password=PASSWPRD'); // IMITATE CLASSIC BROWSER'S BEHAVIOUR : HANDLE COOKIES curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR, 'cookie.txt'); # Setting CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER variable to 1 will force cURL # not to print out the results of its query. # Instead, it will return the results as a string return value # from curl_exec() instead of the usual true/false. curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); // EXECUTE 1st REQUEST (FORM LOGIN) $store = curl_exec ($ch); // SET FILE TO DOWNLOAD curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://lockerz.com/auction'); // EXECUTE 2nd REQUEST (FILE DOWNLOAD) $content = curl_exec ($ch); // CLOSE CURL curl_close ($ch); echo $content; ?> Thank you very much if you can help! I got a question regarding a news website content that i want to make ! my question is how do i call my contents without using a lot of page? i explain let's say i got 10 news how do i put this 10 news in different pages without using 10 pages ? ex: you can see some links having a number like this http://bbc.uk/news/murder_case-12 then the next page got http://bbc.uk/news/finance-13 the title and the number id change but the page news doesnt change thanks for your answer. I want to show different content to different users from different states. So, if a visitor is visiting the website from California, I want to show California content. Likewise, if a user is visiting from any other State (say NY, Chicago, or anywhere), I want to show content relating to that State. Any suggestions? Thanks. As above, I have a lottery style site that picks a random number between 1-8 but my users complain for some reason that this is not enough. So i was told to look into using fopen and random.org to generate a random number. Anyone have experience of this and perhaps a code snippet for me to look at and possibly use? help will be appreciated. Hi
I try to echo out random lines of a html file and want after submit password to whole content of the same html file. I have two Problems.
1st Problem When I echo out the random lines of the html file I don't get just the text but the code of the html file as well. I don't want that. I just want the text. How to do that?
for($x = 1;$x<=40;$x++) { $lines = file("$filename.html"); echo $lines[rand(0, count($lines)-1)]."<br>"; }I tried instead of "file("$filename.html");" "readfile("$filename.html");" But then I get the random lines plus the whole content. Is there anything else I can use instead of file so that I get the random lines of text without the html code?P.S file_get_contents doesn't work either have tried that one. 2nd Problem: As you could see in my first problem I have a file called $filename.html. After I submit the value of a password I want the whole content. But it is like the program did forget what $filename.html is. How can I make the program remember what $filename.html is? Or with other words how to get the whole content of the html file? My code: if($_POST['submitPasswordIT']){ if ($_POST['passIT']== $password ){ $my_file = file_get_contents("$filename.html"); echo $my_file; } else{ echo "You entered wrong password"; } }If the password isn't correct I get: You entered wrong password. If the password is correct I get nothing. I probably need to create a path to the file "$filename.html", but I don't know exactly how to do that. Hi, I am generating certificates in php i can display the name in arabic but it will not print on the certicate. Any idea why its saying that??? I've spent the past 2 days googling and trying different methods that people have recommended other people try yet still I come up with the same problem. I am new to coding and I am learning the basic functions so all feedback is welcome in aiding my learning endeavor. I am using a form and all of the inputs are submitting to the database other than the text area which comes up blank. I do not get an error when submitting the form I just get a blank value for the text area 'Comments'.

Hey All, As of this morning our gallery has started to show the incorrect dates. Please go to: http://www.nightlifeguestlist.com/c...n/74/Carbon.htm you will see the first date is Fri, 29 October 10 this should be Sat, 30 October 10. In the database the date is in putted as 2010-10-30. The dates from Fri, 29 October 10 to Fri, 2 April 10 are all incorrect. These happen to be all BST times. While the dates for GMT are OK. The clocks here in the UK are now GMT and not BST. Has this anything to do with it? The code used is as follows: <? $location = false; if(isset($_GET['l'])){ $location = $_GET['l']; } $venue = false; if(isset($_GET['v'])){ $venue = $_GET['v']; } $event = false; if(isset($_GET['e'])){ $event = $_GET['e']; } $page = 0; if(isset($_GET['p'])){ $page = $_GET['p']; $page--; } $query_events = ""; if(!$location){ $query_events = "SELECT ec_venues.location FROM ec_venues GROUP BY ec_venues.location"; } else if($location && !$venue && !$event){ $query_events = "SELECT ec_venues.venue_name, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(ec_events.event_date) AS event_date, ec_venues.venue_id, ec_events.event_id,ec_venues.location FROM ec_events INNER JOIN ec_venues ON ec_events.venue_id = ec_venues.venue_id WHERE ec_events.event_date IS NOT NULL AND ec_venues.location='".$location."' I created a form to insert data into a mysql database, all went well and when I returned to the form it was blank. I then asked a friend to test it out aswell and when he loaded the form page, the data that entered before him was displayed? (it was still filled out with my info). Even after he refreshed it was still there... Hows this possible? How would I clear the form after its been submitted if it doesnt do it automatically? Thanks Drew At the moment i can retrieve information from a DB and display it nicely in a vertical line of boxes (some boxes with extra information as needed). I basically need a version of this with exactly the same information, but instead of a top-down list of divs (boxes), I need them to be displayed going around a circle (starting top centre, going clockwise). Does anyone know if this is possible? And how easy would it be? Any scripts? It's already taken me ages to get the list pulling the appropriate info and displaying in a straight line. Thanks for any help/direction. Added: The number of divs displayed will be variable depending on what's in the DB. So I can't count on their being a certain number. Therefore the 'circle' would need to re-size in some way?! I have a very simple page, where I use the include statement that includes my connection string. The connection string and a variables are not being passed to my test server - (WAMP). My include file is below $server = "servername"; $username = "username"; $password = ""; $database = "dbname"; $portNumber = 3308; $link = mysqli_connect($server,$username,$password,$database,$portNumber); if(!$link) { echo "cannot connet to the server"; } else { echo "This works"; } echo "Hi"; I am including this file with the following code:
include ("includes/connect.inc");
My site is not connecting to the database, and is not displaying "This works", or "Hi". Do you have any pointers on how to get this connect?
