Can anyone tell me the best way to handle empty search field on a mysql Query? The query below if $name is left blank but the other fields are filled it shows no results, currently i use if.... else.... but that means i have a lot of code replicated, is there a better way?

If Database Field Is Empty, How To Show On Form "empty"

What I am looking for is that if any field in a database is empty, the form comes back and puts in the word "empty" into the web page, but not the database.

I got this right now, it shows the first part fine, but the second part it doesn't show the "Empty" comment... I don't understand why... as far as I can tell the code is fine...

If the mysql field is empty, display an unchecked check box next to the result. If there is data in the field display a check box ticked.

I am trying to show Rows 1 to 16 to display normally, rows 17 to 30 use the above logic.

There are about 30 fields to display like this, the others are required fields and are displayed no matter what.

As you can see it's fairly basic. What i want to do is before it runs this script and starts including/invoking the class etc, i want to be able to check to see if there is a value been posted from a FILE FORM OBJECT and if there is to proceed with this script, alternatively i want it to execute another code which will handle it in regards to the concept of my page. A simple javascript alert with be ok providing it reloaded the page to it's default state. If any one can help me here i would appreciate it a lot. Thanks

Problem Updating Mysql Field Based On User_email Field

Hi:
I'm going crazy trying to do the following:
I'm making a job registration process where the user registers on one php page to the website, must acknowlege and email receipt using an activate php page, then is directed to upload their C.V. (resume) based on the email address they enter in the active page output. I then run an upload page to store the resume in teh MySQL db based on the users email address in the same record.

If I isolate the process of the user registering to the db, it works perfectly.
If I isolate the file upload process into the db, it works perfect.
I simply cannot upload teh file to the existing record based on teh email form field matching the user_email field in the db.
With the processes together, teh user is activated, but teh file is not uploaded.

Maybe I've simply been at this too long today, but am compeled to get through it by end day.
If anyone can help sugest a better way or help me fix this, I will soo greatly appreciate it.

Mysql Query Fails If Php Variable Is Empty

I know the following simple demonstration fails and what to do to rectify it (though with a lot of additional code is necessary), but I don't know why this is the behaviour. It would be great if someone could explain to me why, and what the neatest way of fixing it would be.

mysql_query($query);

Because the $number variable is empty, this simple query fails. Logically, one would think that nothing or NULL gets inserted to that field since the MySQL structure rule states that default is NULL, and since nothing is fed to it in the query, I think that it would automatically be NULL since if the column is omitted, that is exactly the value that will be inserted.

Enclosing the variable with quotes is not preferable since this field accepts integers. Also, converting the variable to an integer by (int)$number results in a 0, which is not what I want either. Checking if the variable is empty of not, and if it is, assign $number = "''" so that the query would succeed by enclosing the empty string with single quotes. But this creates a lot of unnecessary code (some of my tables are 80 columns wide and the query therefore have equal amount of variables).

So to summarise, why is this happening and how do I neatly avoid assigning quotes to the empty strings? In other words, how do I insert nothing when variables that usually contain an integer is on occation empty?

I have made a simple form where users who have been subscribed and unsubscribe by inserting their email address.

In my database using PHPMyAdmin, my database to store the emails is 'Links', the table is 'email' and the fields are the 'id' and 'emailaddress'.

What I have tried is making a text input field, where the user ill insert his or her email address, to unsubscribe on the website. As a result the user's field for his or her email address will be delete in the database which is saving the emails for all users who have subscribed.
