PHP - Gethostbyaddr Adding Ip To Hostname From Some Clients
I log the hostname of the computers when they do certain things in our Intranet.
When the hostname is logged, certain clients are getting both the hostname and the localhost IP address added. For example, if the PC name is TOMS-PC, the hostname logged is TOMS-PC172.0.0.1 Other clients are logging just the hostname as it should be. This is my first question on phpFreaks (the other 900+ posts I've made were always an attempt to help someone else) Here's the issue: when using gethostbyaddr($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']) on a local machine (current using MAMP on OS X) the name returned is not the first entry in my /etc/hosts file. (On php.net there's another person also commenting on this and saying that apparently gethostbyaddr() selects a random entry from the file.) This is not really an issue, since everything will work fine on my FreeBSD production server where each IP address has only one DNS record (I'm building the company's intranet, so I know exactly what's in our DNS tables) but I'm curious to know if anyone has had the same issue/problem and if there's a way around it. I’ve seen hundreds from that pool, and other blocks of reserved ones, and they have never had alpha-chars included in their captures. it’s always only the IP numbers. there a reason for that? really, all I’m looking for is why I see what I see. anyone help? furthermore, does anyone know if other server-side languages like c#, python, ruby or any js frameworks return different results than PHP ever would? thanks. I made a bug which caused endless loop and endless printing. When I noticed that, I closed the browsers tab, fixed the bug, open a new tab and re-run. I was assuming the server would start from the beginning, but instead I noticed that some variables were active and the program continued from where it stopped. How can I make the program to stop when the client tab is terminated? Here is one of my emails. I tried using something like: $price += $row['Price']; This ended up as one long string, even though the database is set as a decimal number field. Then I tried doing it from mySQL like this (from what I read), but I don't think I have the full answer:

The page queries the database and I can print them no problem. I want to add them and display the total of these values. I've tried about two dozen ways of doing and I just can't get them to add.
