I'm new to function and I can't figure how to update/result the score. I developed a game called Rock, Paper, & Scissors, so I can learn the function itself with a simple game for now. http://pastebin.com/9MB7ATnt Any tips or instruction would be much appreciated. Thanks. I've been hacking at this for about 4 hours now.. Throwing the towel in! Any feedback or suggestions please: I'm calling a function like so: <!--START :: Run report and update records --> <p> <form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>"> <!--<input type="hidden" name="post_var">--> <input type="submit" name="runUpdate" value="Run Update"> </form> </p> <?php if (isset($_POST['runUpdate'])) { updateRecords(); }; ?> <!--END :: Run report and update records --> Here are the function details: <?php function updateRecords() { // START :: Query to replace matches mysql_query("UPDATE orig_codes_1a AS a JOIN old_and_new_codes_1a AS b ON concat(a.orig_code_1, a.orig_code_2) = concat(b.old_code_1, b.old_code_2) SET a.orig_code_1 = b.new_code_1, a.orig_code_2 = b.new_code_2") or die(mysql_error()); // END :: Query to replace matches echo "<p><table border='1' cellpadding='3' width='100%'>"; echo "<tr> <th>Updated Code 1</th> <th>Updated Code 2</th> </tr>"; // START :: While loop - keeps getting the next row until there are no more to get while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { //START :: If to find matching criteria class it w/ bg color if ($row['orig_code_1'] < '10000') { $changedClass = "changedClassCSS"; } else { $changedClass = ""; }; //END :: If to find matching criteria class it w/ bg color //START :: Print out the contents of each row into a table echo "<tr><td class=\"$changedClass\">"; echo $row['orig_code_1']; echo "</td><td class=\"$changedClass\">"; echo $row['orig_code_2']; echo "</td>"; } echo "</table></p>"; //END :: Print out the contents of each row into a table // START // //echo "$tableOutput"; // END // }; ?> I'm getting this error: Notice: Undefined variable: result in C:\wamp\www\php_practice\apps\records_updater_2\functions.php on line 27 Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given in C:\wamp\www\php_practice\apps\records_updater_2\functions.php on line 27 Now what I don't understand is 1) This script works fine (even though the $result is not defined) when all of the code is in one file not being called as a function. And 2) Why the hell would it work as in number 1?? Please please please tell me what I am doing wrong here! Hi there, hope one of you can help me with a problem im just having. Ok, lets start with the explanation what i want to to: I'd like to collect headlines from a html site, and get the test results in an array, so that the array structure represents the dom-levels of the site. Small Example: <h1>test1.1<h1/> <h2>test2.1</h2> <h2>test2.2</h2> <h3>test3</h3> <h1>test1.2<h1/> Shoul end in a array structure like: Code: [Select] array('level 1' => array ( 'sibble1' => array ( 'headline' => 'test1.1', 'level2' => array( 'sibble1' => array ( 'headline' => 'test2.1', 'level3' => array(), // empty data, needs to be processed anyway to find gaps, to maybe a h4 headline would be existing ), 'sibble2' => array ( 'headline' => 'test2.2', 'level3' => array ( 'sibble1' => array ( 'headline' => 'test3.1', 'level4' => array(), // empty data, needs to be processed anyway to find gaps, to maybe a h4 headline would be existing ), ), ), ), ), 'sibble2' => array ( 'headline' => 'test1.1', 'level2' => array(), ), ), ); So i hope out of this example you can see what i want to do. level represents the healdine level 1-9, sibblin is as name for the childs on the headline level. Ok, so to extract the herefore needed data out of the html, i build a class with a recursive function, that filters the html by a regex from one headline to the next, first iteratin all childs, if there are no more childs i go tho ne nextsibbling element. as an running example code look he Code: [Select] <?php class Application_Model_DomParser { const PREG_MATCH_ONE_ELEMENT_TO_MUCH_LENGTH = 4; private $slicedFields = array(); public function __construct() { } public function sliceFirstSectionToDataFields($level = 1, $haystack) { preg_match_all("#(.*?)<h$level>(.*?)</h$level>(.*?)(<h$level>|$)#s", $haystack, $data); // prepare the chunkData $pageText = ''; if (isset($data[1][0])) { $pageText = $data[1][0]; } $headline = ''; if (isset($data[2][0])) { $headline = $data[2][0]; } $dataToProcessNextLevel =''; if (isset($data[3][0])) { $dataToProcessNextLevel = $data[3][0]; } // @todo dirty warnings compression, search why warning occures @$posOfNextChild = strlen($data[0][0]) - self::PREG_MATCH_ONE_ELEMENT_TO_MUCH_LENGTH; // from here goes the debug... echo $headline ."::" .strlen($dataToProcessNextLevel). "<br>"; if (strlen($dataToProcessNextLevel) <= self::PREG_MATCH_ONE_ELEMENT_TO_MUCH_LENGTH) { if ($level < 9) { $dataToProcessNextLevel = $haystack; } else { return; } } //recursive check for next level in $dataToProcessNextLevel $nextLevel = $level + 1; $this->sliceFirstSectionToDataFields($nextLevel, $dataToProcessNextLevel); $haystack = substr($haystack, $posOfNextChild); // slized To The End if (self::PREG_MATCH_ONE_ELEMENT_TO_MUCH_LENGTH == strlen($haystack)) { // die("slized To The End"); return; } // recursive check for other childs in actuall level... $this->sliceFirstSectionToDataFields($level, $haystack); } } $htmlString = 'test<h1>headkline1.1</h1> <p>test test</p> <h2>headline 2.1</h2>test test <h2>headline 2.2</h2> <p>tes test test</p> <h3>headline 3.1</h3>test <h3>headline 3.2</h3>test <h2>headline 2.3</h2> <p> </p> <p>test</p> <h1>headline 1.2</h1> <h2>headline 2.4</h2> <p>11111111111112222222222222222222222</p> <p> ewfwrefg upowmdg w3q09umq09wrt n3q089ty 3q0898943ty -98 41</p> <h3>headline 3.3</h3> <p>test</p> <p>test</p> <p>test</p> <h1>1.3 testtest</h1> <p>test</p> <h3>head 3.4</h3> <p>sadfsadfsadf asdfsda f sdaas saf saddas</p> <h3>head 3.4</h3> <h3>test 1.3</h3> <p>test;</p> '; $model = new Application_Model_DomParser(); $result = $model->sliceFirstSectionToDataFields(1, $this->htmlString); So letting this piece of code run, you can se via the debug echo, every headline is found, even in the right order of its occurence. My problem now is dont get it how to return the extracted values, and collect them to get a result as my above shown structure shows. So i spent ours to solve this problem but didnt come to a result. I know its a hard problem, and to help me takes time, cause its a complex situation. Allthough i hope someone knows a anser. I need this problem solved, to get my mind rested! Thanks, and greetings Selma Hello, New to PHP and trying to loop through rows to and get the name of the "property" in this case. I have tried foreach and while and neither seem to want to return all rows by calling the function. Does it have something to do with echo'ing the table structure or can I not return an array out of a function like this? I commented out the while loop as that wasn't working and put in a foreach loop though that didn't return all the data either. Any help is greatly appreciated Code: [Select] <?php function getProperties(){ $sql = "SELECT propertyName FROM properties;"; $result = mysql_query($sql); //$count = mysql_num_rows($result); $property = mysql_fetch_array($result); foreach($property as $propertyName){ echo "<td width=\"157\" height=\"24\" valign=\"middle\"><div align=\"left\"><input type=\"checkbox\" name=\"$propertyName\" \"id=\"$propertyName\" />$propertyName</div></td>"; } /* for($i=0;$i>=$count;$i++){ while($property = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ $propertyName = $property['propertyName']; echo "<td width=\"157\" height=\"24\" valign=\"middle\"><div align=\"left\"><input type=\"checkbox\" name=\"$propertyName\" \"id=\"$propertyName\" />$propertyName</div></td>"; } } */ } ?> Hello, I have been developing a website that needs to display products online, I was originally going to hand-write the PHP code but I thought it would be more beneficial to make it database orientated as new products can easily be added and a search function becomes possible. I have it working so far so good, but the last part I can't seem to get working. I have it so all the products that have the desired category are displayed, but I want a more detailed analysis of the product to appear when the image is clicked, which at the moment, displays a blank page. http://www.webwib.co...?p=floorpuzzles - this is the hand coded version that demonstrates how I want it to work. http://www.webwib.co...hp?floorpuzzles - this is the db version so far, it works how it is intended to apart from the last stage, which returns as a blank page rather than a dedicated page for the selected product. Here is my code, the third segment beginning with "if(isset($_GET['$ID'])){", is my attempt at the final stage. <?php $db=mysql_connect ("localhost", "webwibco_charlie", "Hello123") or die ('I cannot connect to the database because: ' . mysql_error()); $mydb=mysql_select_db("webwibco_products"); include("header.php"); if(isset($_GET['floorpuzzles'])){ echo "<h1>Our Floor Puzzles</h1>"; $sql="SELECT ID, Name, Tags, Description, Category FROM products WHERE Category LIKE '%" . Hi all !
I have a piece of code he
$result = display_all(fcon, $var1, $var2); function display_all( // defined in another file $query = "SELECT one, two, three four, index1, index2 FROM numbers WHERE index1 = $var1 LIMIT 0, 1"; $result = mysqli_query($fcon, $query); return ($result); )and then I use the returned variable $result to display the value as follows:- while ($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result, MYSQLI_ASSOC)) { echo "<tr>"; echo "<td>".$one."</td>"; echo "<td>".$two."</td>"; echo "<td>".$three. "</td>"; echo "<td>".$four. "</td>"; echo "<td>".$index1. "</td>"; echo "</tr>"; }and this displays the n rows of data returned. Now I have started using prepared statements and the function is now function display_all{ $query = "SELECT one, two, three four, index1 FROM numbers WHERE index1 = ? LIMIT 0, 10"; $stmt = $conn->prepare($query); $stmt->bind_param('i',$var) if($stmt->execute()) { $stmt->bind_result($one, $two, $three, $four, $index1); $stmt->store_result(); } return($stmt); }However the returned $stmt object is unable to display the n rows of data since it shows null values. I assume that this is not the right way to use the $stmt object to display data. I must be missing something. So I request you guys to help me with this. Thanks loads. Edited by ajoo, 23 December 2014 - 11:24 AM. When i use this code it show everything except for the first record in the table. I have also tried it with the users for the login system im using and then it doesnt show the person im logged in to or also the first record in the table and i need it too show all the records How do i solve this? I thought it had something to do with: Code: [Select] <?php while ($rij = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ echo ("<tr><td>". $rij['ID'] . " </td> " . "<td>" . $rij['naam'] . " " . $rij['telefoon'] . " </td> " . "<td>" . $rij['adres'] . " </td> " . "<td>" . $rij['mobiel`'] . " </td>". "</td></tr>\n "); } ?> But i dont know how to solve it. Code: [Select] <?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root",""); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("root123", $con); $sql= "SELECT * FROM root123 ORDER BY ID;"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $con); $rij = mysql_fetch_array($result); ?> <table width="80%" align="center"> <tr> <th>ID</th> <th width="150px">Naam</th> <th>Gebruikersnaam</th> <th width="300px">Wachtwoord</th> </tr> <?php while ($rij = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ echo ("<tr><td>". $rij['ID'] . All i want to do is have the end user fill out the form, hit submit then either have the user directed to a thank you page or have pop up message stating that the information has been sent. At the moment the code i have does not seem to be sending the mail and aditionally i have no idea where or how to start writing the code for the thank you page or the conformation pop up message. Please can some one show me the light on this one, i am really just starting out with php and finding it real hard. Anyway guys this is the code i have, please let us know what i'm doing wrong and what i need to add to it. Code: [Select] <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { $to = "my_email@mydomain"; $subject = "Contact Form"; $name = $_POST['name']; $comp_name = $_POST['company_name']; $email = $_POST['email']; $phone = $_POST['contact_number']; $location = $_POST['location']; $message = $_POST['message']; $body = "From: $name\n E-Mail: $email\n Company Name: $comp_name\n Contact Number: $phone:\n Location: $location:\n Message:\n $message"; mail($to, $subject, $body); } ?> Hope some one can help, many thanks in advance. Cheers. I am really lost here with this date issue of mine. The below code is the last part of a query: Code: [Select] $defendercheck_3 = $row_checkifattacked3['atdate']; $defendercheck1_3 = strtotime("$defendercheck_3"); $defendercheck2_3 = date("D", $defendercheck1_3); The query does not return any results as expected, but when echoing the various steps I get following: echo "$defendercheck3"; = nothing (as expected) echo "$defendercheck1_3"; = nothing (as expected) echo "$defendercheck2_3"; = result! (NOT expected) why does it return anything on "date("D", $defendercheck1_3)" when "$defendercheck1_3" is blank? PHP date and time function is not showing correct time on my local system I have the following php code date_default_timezone_set("Africa/Lagos"); $date = date('d-m-y h:i:s'); echo "Server Time ".$date ."<br>"; echo "The time is " . date("h:i:sa")."<br>"; $current_datetime = date("Y-m-d") . ' ' . date("H:i:s", STRTOTIME(date('h:i:sa'))); echo "Current time1: ".$current_datetime . "<br>";

Any help would be appreciated. Edited May 21 by Ponel I am pretty new to PHP and am trying to create a simple (so I assumed) page to takes data from one html page(works fine) and updates a MYSQL Database. I am getting no error message, but the connect string down to the end of the body section is showing up as plain text in my browser window. I do not know how to correct this. I have tried using two different types of connect strings and have verified my names from the HTML page are the same as listed within the php page. Suggestions on what I need to look for to correct would be great. I have looked online, but so far all I am getting is how to connect, or how to create a comment, so I thought I would try here. Thank you for any assistance I may get!! - Amy - Code: [Select] <body><font color="006600"> <div style="background-color:#f9f9dd;"> <fieldset> <h1>Asset Entry Results</h1> <?php // create short variable names $tag=$_POST['tag']; $serial=$_POST['serial']; $category=$_POST['category']; $status=$_POST['status']; $branch=$_POST['branch']; $comments=$_POST['comments']; if (!$tag || !$serial || !$category || !$status || !$branch) { echo "You have not entered all the required details.<br />" ."Please go back and try again."; exit; } if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $tag = addslashes($tag); $serial = addslashes($serial); $category = addslashes($category); $status = addslashes($status); $branch = addslashes($branch); $comments = addslashes($comments); } //@ $db = new mysqli('localhost', 'id', 'pw', 'inventory'); $db = DBI->connect("dbi:mysql:inventory:localhost","id","pw") or die("couldnt connect to database"); $query = "insert into assets values ('".$serial."', '".$tag."', '".$branch."', '".$status."', '".$category."', '".$comments."')"; $result = $db->query($query); if ($result) { echo $db->affected_rows." asset inserted into Inventory."; } else { echo "An error has occurred. But for some bloody reason it doesn't work via code. function PunchTime($pdate,$type,$num,$ewho) { if($type == "in") { if($num == "1") { $etime_col = "PUNCH_IN"; } elseif($num == "2") { $etime_col = "PUNCH_IN2"; } } elseif($type == "out") { if($num == "1") { $etime_col = "PUNCH_OUT"; } elseif($num == "2") { $etime_col = "PUNCH_OUT2"; } } include_once('oracleCON.php'); $etime_qry = "SELECT $etime_col FROM tablename WHERE who= '$ewho' AND punch_date = '$pdate'"; echo $etime_qry; $etime_go = oci_parse($conn, $etime_qry); oci_execute($etime_go); $etime_res = oci_fetch_assoc($etime_go); $time = $etime_res[$etime_col]; if($time == "") $time = "--"; echo $time; } All i get are "--" even though some should return a time stamp.
