PHP - Checking A Variable On Equality With An Isset Condition Check Wrapped Around

I have a query:

$query ="select * FROM telephone_admin where name Like ' ".$_GET['answer']." ' ";

I would like to add % before and after so that the query will search for result which contains the PHP variable $_GET['answer'] before or after,

but the problem is how can I add % before or after ' ".$_GET['answer']." ' within the query??

I am trying to set a variable if a session OR a cookie has been set, but am unsure on how to write the statement...

Obviously not working there, but just need a pointer here.

I found the code below which checks to make sure something the user entered into a text field is an actual URL.  I am looking to confirm that something a user enters is an actual link to an IMAGE, so does anyone know how I could adjust this code below to do that?

Basically, this code below would accept http://monkeys.com AND http://monkeys.com/images/monkey.jpg.

I want to alter the code so that http://monkeys.com would NOT be accepted since it's not an image.  Essentially, I want to make sure whatever the user enters ends with .jpg, .gif or .png.

Anyone know how to do this?

How can I check a variable to see if it is NULL and if so set to 0000-00-00?

I've tried:
if ($var IS NULL) THEN $var='0000-00-00'; to no avail.

If I do a mysql query from a database on a field that either has a number or is blank, how can I write php to check that. 

In other words, I am getting that value back into a variable called $isaresult and doing...

I'm not real experienced with checking if a value exists, so let me know the proper way to do it (since I assume there are multiple ways).

I need to check the variable $itemDescription to see if the client has entered a '1' before the item description(example: 1 table)

Reason, is the client would like to add sales tax to all NOn-Food related items of 6.25%

This is for a local auction house. It needs to be simple. i,e. Don't wanna add any more form fields. Just let the user type the number 1 before all items that need to be taxed.

This is just a tiny bit of my code, there is security holes, but as you see, there is 3 functions:
Login
Logout
Checklogin

But when i use the Login function, everything is fine, but if i then use the checklogin, then it always returns true(it returns true after i used the logout function), why?

I'm having a major mind blank, and can't find anything in the previous posts resolving what I'm after.

I'm setting

$searchtext = $_POST['searchtext'];

I want to check $seachtext is not null.

I've seen isset($searchtext) but it doesn't solve my problem.

Basiclaly; I want an if statement to say if(isset($searchtext)) {......}

Thoughts?

I want an if statement that not only checks for the existence of a variable, but which also checks all the variables already created for one with a specific value. For example, I have a loop which creates variables, but I don't want it to make two variables with the same value. The problem is, using

if(isset(${'h'.$x}==false) && ${'h'.$x} != 3{



}

won't work since the variable equal to 3 could be named h4, whereas this one will be named h5. I hoped I explained this efficiently enough, sorry about any confusion.

I have a login page that i acces via www.mydomain.com/logib.php?last_visited_page.php
however the passed in variable last_visited_page.com is not always set .

once the login script has run , when the variable it is not set i would want jump to myaccount.php
otherwise jump to last_visited_page.php

How do i check for no variable beinf present and therefore jump to myaccount.php

I was wondering if it is possible to check the content for a variable for a certain work.  For example say a variable called "$variable1" was equal to "one, two, three, four, five".  How can I check to see if the variable contain the word "four"?  Thanks for any help.
