PHP - Php And Mysql: This Should Be So Easy, But... I Don't Know How
I'm just learning php and I've created a test shopping website. Everything is working well, but I need help with the following:

On my index page I have links to these three items. This is my products.php code. When run it shows all the items in the 3 subcategories. If the db is a sql database we need to design the database schema and create the tables in the database. The first step in accessing a db in our code is to get a connection to it. If ruby is our choice of language, a search for "ruby sql connector" will give us lots of options to read about. Well - we also can do it in PHP. What do you think!? Next, based on the schema we have designed, we need to create queries suitable for storing the data. We will likely need to consider our transactional model. Again, searching "ruby sql transactional model" will give us plenty of food for thought. Finally, we may want or need to close the connection to the database. Lets start out by saying I'm a nube to sql/php things so I am learning as I go. I try to read all that I can before I post, and only post when I cant figure it out on my own. That being said. What I want to do in simplest terms is be able to assign a variable to each item in an sql table. So say I have an mysql table that has ID, username, fontcolor. I have tried mixing this several different ways with for and while and I keep getting errors on the page. Jim I am very new to php and am trying to create a simple application that uploads a PDF file to a database. I have one field for the Volume Number and on file field for the PDF to be uploaded. My issue is i can't get the PDF to upload or insert the name of the pdf (eg volume1.pdf) into the data base. I am trying to send an html file (with .js formatting) to the browser from within a PHP script. The .js formatting is not being interpreted and so the result in the browser is less than impressive.
