PHP - Image Upload Crop Script

Not so much help as here is a handy class for uploading images

Hey guys!! i'm after a bit of help with a script i am using for simple image upload to server.

At the moment the script works fine and will allow upload of JPG files, i want to extend on this to allow GIF and PNG files to be uploaded aswell.

This is the script i am using...

I'll explain with an example:
I have this image: http://www.fitnessvital.com/images/galeria/caballo-pastando-0.jpg
I create a thumbnail of it: http://www.fitnessvital.com/images/galeria/thumbs/caballo-pastando-0.jpg

You can see that it's a big image where the important thing is the horse. The grass is not important.
So, the best thing to do it's to crop the extra grass and resizing the rest.

So the question is:
There's a way of recognizing the objects of an image and crop the rest ? Or identify the non important of an imagen and cropt it ? (the same rewrited)

Hi all! I have a problem with an image uploading script and at the moment it keeps the image name the same, obviously people don't have very adventurous names for their images "image1" and they are over writing each other. How do I put a random 5 digit number on the end to make them all unique? Thanks.

I'm new to programming so take it easy on me but I wrote this script for php and it's not complete yet but I could use some advice on file upload security. Besides recreating the image, checking token/request and setting apache settings what else can I do to secure this application. Here's my code:

My upload script is working for the most part and while I know that I need a couple of little fixes and will need help with those I also wouldn't mind some tips on how I could have written it better in the first place.

The 2 problems I am having.
1. If the copy image fails the script doesn't and still creates a database entry. I would like to stop it from doing that but can't seem to work it out.
2. My mate is getting file type errors even though he is trying to upload small .jpg files. I can't seem to recreate the problem. Maybe someone can see something that might be problematic??

Hi guys,

I've got an image uploader based on Uploadify, first let me set out what I want the script to do and what it currently does/doesn't do:

Upload files of various types into folders named with the Order ID - OK Process the files by checking the file type and acting accordingly - OK Create thumbnails of the images in the /thumbs subdirectory - OK If the file is a PDF, create JPEG images of all pages and subsequent thumbnails - OK If the file is a ZIP, unzip and re-process the contents based on the above rules - FAIL
As you can see I'm nearly at the end of my wishlist with this script, currently when it receives a ZIP file is unzip's it correctly placing the contents in the parent (Order-ID) directory however I'm then left with the same situation I have at the very beginning of the script, for example:

File in -> "What kind of file are you?" -> Process file based on the answer.

What I need to do is:

File in -> "What kind of file are you? Oh! a Zip File, let's unzip and ask the same question of the contents!" -> Process contents.

So basically I need to ask the same question twice, once of the zip and once of the contents of the unzipped file. This is where I'm struggling, someone told me to use a function which I tried but it kept breaking and I wasn't sure why. Therefore I have attached 2 files. 1 which currently works 99% except for "asking the question again" and one which doesn't work but I was told is the right way to do it

Hi all, been a while since I've been on here.   I am in the process of designing a site similar to dating sites like plenty of fish, or ok cupid. The only spot I am running into trouble is with images.    If you are familiar with either of these sites, you will understand what I am looking for.    Basically, a user is able to upload one or more images via an uploader (Not sure if it's ajax or flash to be honest, but I would like to stick to PHP/Ajax).   While uploading, they have the ability to crop their images to specific sizes set by the site - for example, the image must be cropped to fit  a 400 px X 400 px area, so they have the ability to decide which part of a larger image is saved rather than just have the system crop it and perhaps not show what was intended.    After they finish and click upload, the image is saved to the server, as well as a thumbnail, which, without a refresh, is then added to their page along with their previous images if there were any. From that point, they have the option to delete images they don't like, set the main image for their profile and edit/add captions to the images, again, all without refreshing the page.    Would anyone happen to know of a script I could start with and change to suit my needs, but that would pretty much allow this kind of image uploading/manipulation? I've done google searches for hours now and have looked at a ton of scripts but not a single one I have found seems to be able to do any of these things. Most just have multiple file uploads with cropping ability, but not by the users themselves, just a predetermined dimension.    Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.    Jax

I have a script that takes up to 3 images and resizes them. It works except for if you try and upload images over roughly 500kb. I then get the message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of X bytes exhausted (tried to allocate Y bytes)

I have an image uploading script that won't upload images...


It worked at one point when i had folder permission at 0777 but i was told that is risky so i changed it to 0775


Now it won't work and i can't use 0777.




Any one know what i need to do to get it to work?

As you will see this is my first post in I really hope somebody can nail this for me, as I have been working on this for some time and I cannot get it to work.

Basically this is the final part of a CMS I'm building, and all was fine until I needed to build in an option of a multiple image uploader to accompany all other stock details.

All seems to be fine above, I can upload 1,2,3 or 4 images and the image goes into the server and the path to the database.

But I then needed the option for my client to be able to click to edit a certain stock and then aswel as edit the other details, if he wanted to change one pic, no pics or all 4 he could and when he clicked submit, if there was a new image it would change if not it would stay as it is.

What happens above as its all on the same page, is when a stock item is selected to be edited the form to update the images changes to the image upload options above, instead of the original ones for a new stock item at the top of this post.

I can provide anything you need to help me with this, so please can somebody take a look and see if it can be got working, as its been a long problem for me this.

so what i have going on is that i need help writing a basic script to upload original and copy with resize for thumbnail. then also need to rename both image files with content in the form.
My server supports GD Library and that imagemagik or whatever it is lol.

so what needs to happen is for the file upload name. it needs to grab a count from "p_group" database to give it a starting number in a "00" pattern and then the date of pic needs to go in there next then the p_group name. so when the files gets uploaded it would look something like this after upload. "03 - Oct 21, 2011 - The Mex.jpg"
NOTE: all pics must be converted to ".jpg" extension.

both the orig and thumb will use that same file name cuz they just go into different dirs

re-sizing for the thumbnail should be done by aspect ratio and needs to either be 300px width or 400px height.

so if anyone would like to help me out please do. im not the greatest at writing in php yet
