PHP - Single/double Quotation Use Witin Sql Stmts?
Hi ppl,
I have problem in preparing the sql statement which requires attribrute from another sql statement. This is the scenario as in PHP code. $sql1="SELECT attrb1 from table1"; $sql2="SELECT attrb2 fromt table2 where attrb3=".$sql['attrb1']"; What and where is the correct placement of these s'quotes or d'quotes should be? Please help. Thank you. Similar Tutorialshello, i have this text file attached, and I am currently extracting the data from it. and yeah, I know how..but the problem is the double quotation marks. the last double quotation mark doesn't go away,,,am also aware that trim() only accepts strings. but how come, it does remove the first double quotation mark and leave the 2nd one. here's my script, feel free to download the file and try my script in your own localhost and tell me what's wrong . Thanks in advance $fh = fopen('iso3166.txt','r'); while(!feof($fh)) { $lines = fgets($fh); $parts = explode(",",$lines); print trim($parts[1],'"')."<br />"; } fclose($fh); for print html : What's Better, Faster and Optimized ?!? Code: [Select] echo "<tr height=\"22\"> <form action = \"{$URL}/admin/edit.php\" method=\"POST\"> <input type=\"hidden\" name=\"login\"> <td width=\"15%\" bgcolor=\"$bgcolor\"> <input type = \"text\" name = \"login\" value=" . $f['login'] . "></td> <td width=\"15%\" bgcolor=\"$bgcolor\"> <input type = \"password\" name = \"password\" value=" . $f['pass'] . "> </td> </form> </tr>"; With PHP Method 2 : ( single ) Code: [Select] echo ' <tr><form action = "' . URL . '/admin/editadmins.php" method="POST"> '; echo ' <td align="left" valign="top"><input type = "text" name = "login" value = "' . $f['login'] . '"></td>'; echo ' <td align="left" valign="top"><input type = "password" name = "password" value = "' . $f['pass'] . Is there a difference between a single quote regex and and double quote regex ?
for example :
<?php $res1 = preg_match('/shi*t/', $comment); $res2 = preg_match("/shi*t/", $comment); ?>Thank you Edited by Dareros, 17 September 2014 - 07:07 PM. Hey, If i have a string which contains numbers and symbols... such as 1:2:4 (its not always : for the symbol it changes) Is there a function that can convert the numbers that are 9 or less to have a 0 infront of them such as: 01:02:04 (also this is not timestamp format - just normal strings) When I add a ' or " quotes in a textarea I get a sql error when it tries to insert the record.
I was told to use mysqli_real_escape_string but that didn't work.
Here's my code -
$blog= mysqli_real_escape_string($con, $_POST['blog']); $blog= $_POST['message']; $sql = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE `message` = '{$message}'"; $result = mysql_query($sql); if ( mysql_num_rows ( $result ) > 0 ) { $error = "Message Exists."; } else { $error = "This message does not exist. Insert it!!!"; $sql="INSERT INTO table (message) VALUES ('$_POST[message])"; } if (!mysqli_query($con,$sql)) { die('Error: ' . mysqli_error($con)); } mysqli_close($con) Edited by barkly, 26 October 2014 - 09:31 PM. I'm so sorry for this question but I not really know how to play with single and double quote. If I have a query like this: Code: [Select] mysql_query('UPDATE table SET Status=1,Sending=Done WHERE ID IN ('.implode(',', $done).')'); And I wish to add Code: [Select] SentAt='$date' in the query as well , and I try this: Code: [Select] mysql_query('UPDATE table SET Status=1,Sending=Done,SentAt='$date' WHERE ID IN ('.implode(',', $done).')'); Not working...how should I write it? Thank you. I have: {$content['size']} inside Code: [Select] echo ""; I had to switch the quotes around because I added something else that required me to do so, so it now sits at this: {$content["size"]} inside Code: [Select] echo ''; Before I made the quote switch, it was echoing "Large", which is correct. Now after the switch, it echo's "{$content["id"]} ". Why?! I've tried 567568758654 different combinations of quotes and removing {} and stuff but non of them fix it. I don't even see why its suddenly not even echoing! All I did was quote reverse! I have a navigation list displaying which is a mix of html and php, everything is working fine however now I want to convert this block of code into a function but am having major problems with quotes. The line of code I currently have is $data = $db->query("SELECT * FROM menu")->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC); foreach ($data as $row) { ?> <li><a href="<?php echo $row['url']; ?>" title="<?php echo $row['title']; ?>"><?php echo $row['icon'] . ' ' . $row['header']; ?></a></li> <?php } ?> As I say everything works using the above but now I am trying to echo the full li out and am having major issues with single and double quotes. I currently have echo "<li><a href='#' title='the title'><i class='fas fa-user site-nav--icon'></i> Help</a></li>"; Now I am trying to use the $row['url'], $row['title'], $row['icon'] & $row['header'] as per the top example but I cannot get the combination of quote marks correct, whether to use double, single or a combination. I would be grateful if someone could suggest the correct syntax for the a tag then I can work through the rest. Thanks Hello everyone! This is my first post. I am very new to php and mysql and coding in general. It has not been made 100% clear to me as to when I should use single quotes, double quotes, and {}. From what I gather you use single quotes for literal interpretation... so if you put something like a variable in single quotes and echoed it, it would literally echo it as it is written and not the value of the variable. in double quotes, I gather that it will echo the value of the variable. as for {} I am unclear as to when to use the curly brackets for a variable. I am assuming if you had a statement in single quotes and you put a variable in curly brackets you would get the value of the variable?

I don't think I've asked this before have I?? can someone give me an internet KB that gives me all scenarios that warrant using singles or doubles? as in, wrapping values, variables, and why I need to do either, and when, etc, etc....? thanks Edited March 29 by ajetrumpetThis code only works in firefox <a onMouseout='hidetooltip()' onMouseover='tooltip(\"<img src=img/heroes/$hero.gif\")' href='hero.php?hero=$hero'>Text</a> Btw, I use this in echo (php). How to get quotes (triple) on <img src= ? I also have tried <img src='img/heroes/$hero.gif' But only works on FireFox PHP script return 20 UL LIST values like, < ul >
A < /ul > How to display UL LIST into row wise 5 columns like
A B C D i have this code: <input onclick='window.location.href="http://www.computerhope.com"' class='button_inline' type='button' name='view' value='View' /> Which is perfectly fine if it wasn't because it is being echoed in php, and then the double quotes f**k up. An easy fix? I have the " or the ' all wrong. Can someone tell me how to do the quoation marks correctly so I dont get a syntax error: as can be seen, the date 10/5/14 is not a variable but I want to convert it to a format that can go into a DATE field. Code: [Select] $query = "update table set expir_date = date("Y-m-d", 10/5/14) where id = '$id' "; Hi everyone, I am having a problem with using quotation marks / apostrophe with php and mysql. If I enter the following lines in mysql. "user's resume" when I do a query from mysql i get back " User\'s resume" it's adding a slash before the apostrophe. How can I fix this ? Thanks. I made a template class recently and the only problem I'm having with it is that when I pull the HTML through if I add double quotes anywhere it breaks the code. I understand why its breaking sorta but I can't figure out how to fix it. Code: (HTML) [Select] <html> <head> </head> <body> <p id='Element'>"Something in quotes"</p> </body> </html> Code: (PHP) [Select] $string = $template->myMethod();//Returns the html in a string eval("\$HTML = \"$string\";"); //The error happens during the evaluation here echo($HTML); The string breaks with double quotes during the eval method and I've tried replacing the " mark with \" by using str_replace but i haven't been able to get it to work. Thanks for your replies I am having a problem with my code and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Please see my code below: <?php $dbcon = mysqli_connect('localhost','user','','videos'); $sql='SELECT * FROM videos'; $result = mysqli_query($dbcon, $sql); $row = mysqli_fetch_array($result); $image = $row['image']; $title = $row['title']; $description = $row['description']; echo '<a href="#"> <div class="thumb" style="background-image: url("' . $image . '");"></div> </a> </div> <div class="column-content"> <p class="column-title">Latest Video</p> <p class="column-heading"><a href="#">' . $title . '</a></p> <div class="video-description"> <p>' . $description . '</p>' mysqli_close($dbcon); ?> Now the connection to the database works, also the title and description is fine too. The problem is with the image. I cannot get it to display and I'm sure it has something to do with the quotation marks but I don't know in what order they should be. If I just use html the code for the image would be : <div class="thumb" style="background-image: url('image.jpg');"></div> with just a single quotation around the image url. Any help would be much appreciated.
Tony Hi, I've been scratching my head for a while now about how to do this, I'm relatively new to php and mysql and perhaps foolishly taking on creating a user area for a website. I have everything else working, all of my register account functions and confirmations and all of the login scripts etc. I have created a profile page which returns various information to the user (this bit works fine) and I've got some nice show/hide toggles running with some javascript/css but my intention is to allow the user to change thier information (e-mail address, contact phone number and also whether they are subscribed to the e-mail list), it also displays any support tickets or messages. So after the long intro, here's what I'm struggling with... I have a form in a visibility toggled <div> which submits a 'change_email' script, so a user wants to change their e-mail, clicks on change, the <div> appears, they bang in the new e-mail and hit submit. My php script appears to work (because it doesn't throw up any errors), until you realise that actually it's not updated the record in the db... I'm using mysql_query("UPDATE users SET email='$new_email' WHERE username='$user'"); Do I need to setup variables for all of the information in the db (name, username, password, email, contno etc etc) and include them in the command to get it to work or should that just pick the correct record and then update it? If that is the case is there a way I can include 'blank' variables so I don't have to set them all up... e.g. mysql_query("UPDATE users SET user='',password='',email='$new_email', etc WHERE username='$user'"); Many thanks in anticipation Hi, I am somewhat new to PHP but I have a little experience. I am having trouble coding this script to set variables with extra quotations and replacing some exploded strings. Here is the script. Code: [Select] <?php $ToCutDown = "[{"parentMessageId":-1,"message":"%3Ca%20href%3D%27%23%27%20class%3D%27standardLink%27%20onclick%3D%27showMobStats%28674542538%29%3B%27%3Eaka%20Bubbles%3C%2Fa%3E%20broadcast%20a%20message%3A%20%3Cfont%20color%3D%27red%27%3E%22Place%20Bounty%20on%20%26quot%3Baka%20Bubbles%26quot%3B%20%28Minimum%20of%20%2418%2C107%2C899%2C000%29%22%3C%2Ffont%3E%2E","id":28152301,""; $Exploded = explode("[{"parentMessageId":-1,"message":"", $ToCutDown); $Exploded = explode(","id":28152301,"", $Exploded[0]); $Exploded = urldecode($Exploded[1]); $StringReplace = str_replace("<a href='#' class='standardLink' onclick='showMobStats(674542538);'>", "", $Exploded); ?> So I'm trying to work with specific strings that have quotation marks in them (Which cannot be removed) & I'm having a hard time using them in variables and in any function that requires you to choose parameters with either ' ' or " ". Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks MOD EDIT: [code] . . . [/code] tags added. Hi all... once again I am trying to re-educate my self into PHP after a long gap. I do not have a problem as such just a question... here is part of my script that doesnot work; <? $sql= "INSERT INTO member ( username, ) VALUES ( \"$_SESSION['nm_username']\", \"$_SESSION['nm_email']\" )"; ?> The above errors because there are single quotation marks in the session variables. When I remove them the script works and the values of the variables seem to be correct! My question is - do I NEED the quotation marks in the variable and if so how should I write the query? Regards |
