PHP - Regarding Storing Last Activity
Hi, when a user logs out, I want to store the last activity in for the user. I have a db table users:
userID userName userPassword lastSession lastActivity ===== ======= ========== ======== ======= 1 bob password 2011-08-09 About.html 2 dre passwords 2011-09-23 Home.php here is logout script: =============== Code: [Select] <?php //run this script only if the logout button has been clicked if(array_key_exists('logout', $_POST)) { require("connect.inc"); $username=$_POST["username"]; $updateLastSessionQuery=mysql_query("UPDATE users SET lastSession=NOW() WHERE userName='$username'"); // end session and redirect //empty the $_SESSION array $_SESSION = array(); session_destroy(); header("Location: xmlShredderLogin.php"); exit; }//END IF for when logout submitted ?> here is Index.php: ============= Code: [Select] <?php session_start(); if(isset($_SESSION["isAuthenticated"])) { require("logout.inc.php"); $username=$_POST["username"]; //print $username."<br />"; print ' <html> <head><title>Home</title></head> <body> <form id="logoutForm" name="logoutForm" method="post" action=""> <input name="logout" type="submit" id="logout" value="Log out" /> <input type="hidden" name="usernameHidden" value='; print$username; print '/> </form>'; mysql_connect("localhost","root"); mysql_select_db("someDB"); $getUserInfoQuery=mysql_query("SELECT lastSession, lastActivity FROM users WHERE userName='$userName'"); $getUserInfo=mysql_fetch_assoc($getUserInfoQuery); print "Last session: ".$getUserInfo["lastSession"]."<br />"; print "Last activity: ".$getUserInfo["lastActivity"]."<br />"; Let's say the last page the user is on is Index.php, so what do I use to track the last page they are on?? I can't user a form b/c if I have to type in the last activity, that's nonsense! So far I have only figured out how to store the current time in last session (but this doesn't work either). I just want to track the last page and then have a switch such as: switch(type) case 1: $lastActivity="About.html"; case 2: $lastActivity="somethingelse.php"; Any help much appreciated! Similar TutorialsHello everyone, I have a messaging site where I have an email generated every night to report new activity on my site. The way it is currently set up, I have each message reply attached to the previous message, such as quoting the original text in an email message. Each string of messages in my database has one common field ("string"), but each new reply has a different message ID field in the database ("messid"). When each new message and reply is created the "reported" field in my database has a default value of n, meaning that it has not been reported yet. At the end of the day, when the email is generated, the reported field is then updated to y, meaning that it HAS been reported. The problem that I'm having now, is that I'm getting several of the same messages in every report. I am using the following code to select each unreported message from the database to generate my report: Code: [Select] <?php $result = mysql_query("SELECT `to`,`studentname`,`staffname`,`subject`,`message`,`date` FROM caresa6_$acct.allmsgs WHERE reported = 'n' ORDER BY `messid` ASC") or die (mysql_error()); ?> Basically, I need to know how to select only the most recent unreported message within each string of messages. For example, now if there is a new message: "Hello there." Then a reply from the recipient: "Hi! How are you?" Then another reply from the original sender: "I am fine." My report will look like this: ___________ New Message: "Hello there." ------------------ Reply: "Hi! How are you?" ------------------ Reply: "I am fine." ------------------ ___________ New Message: "Hello there." ------------------ Reply: "Hi! How are you?" ------------------ ___________ New Message: "Hello there." ------------------ So I am getting carbon copies of every new message every time someone replies. I want to only select the most recent message so that my report only reads: ___________ New Message: "Hello there." ------------------ Reply: "Hi! How are you?" ------------------ Reply: "I am fine." ------------------ Thanks in advance. I added some code last night that updates the "last_activity" field in the "member" table whenever the "body_header.inc.php" script is called, which means that pretty much whenever the User navigates to a new page or submits a form this field is updated. (I use this to kep my "User Online Status" up-to-date.) Everything was working fine until I suddenly started getting a "Cannot modify header" error before bed. Here is ONE sequence causing this error... - I am logged out - I am on http://local.debbie/index.php - I click on the "Log In" link - I am taken to http://local.debbie/members/log_in.php - I log in - I get this error... Thanks, Debbie Hey all, Quick sum up: I have a social website where users can follow/post/vote etc. I am adding a new facebook-like activity wall feature to each users profiles. I have worked on this bit for a few days now and can't seem to get it to work properly. What I want is, well, exactly like the facebook wall as I mentioned...When a visitor visits a user's profile, that user's activity will display, whether they recently "voted" on a post, commented, or posted something of their own, I would like it to display on their profile and of course, have the most recent entries on top. The problems I am having right now a it's displaying some things twice and it's not sorting them by the most recent. I am working with 3 tables here (I only posted the columns that I am using): Code: [Select] Table structure for table votes_posts Field Type Null Default indexer int(11) No post_id int(11) No vote int(11) No user_name varchar(250) No date varchar(255) No Table structure for table posts Field Type Null Default id int(11) No name varchar(30) No content text No datetimerss varchar(255) No category int(11) No Table structure for table comments Field Type Null Default id int(12) No post_id int(12) No name varchar(30) No content text No type varchar(30) No datetimerss varchar(255) No $users is just $_GET['user'] The timeAgo() function, simply displays the very popular "posted xx ago" date time. <ul class="streamActivity"> <?php $checkActivity = "SELECT votes_posts.post_id, votes_posts.user_name, votes_posts.vote, votes_posts.date, posts.id, posts.content, posts.name, posts.datetimerss, categories.category, comments.post_id AS comm_postid, comments.content AS comm_content, comments.name AS comm_name, comments.datetimerss AS comm_date, comments.type FROM `votes_posts` LEFT OUTER JOIN `posts` ON votes_posts.post_id = posts.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `comments` ON posts.id = comments.post_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `categories` ON posts.category = categories.cat_id WHERE (votes_posts.post_id = posts.id AND user_name = '$user') OR (comments.post_id = posts.id AND comments.name = '$user') OR (posts.name = '$user') ORDER BY votes_posts.date, posts.datetimerss, comments.datetimerss ASC"; $checkActivityResult = mysql_query($checkActivity); if (mysql_num_rows($checkActivityResult) > 0) { while ($sessionAct = mysql_fetch_array($checkActivityResult)) { $category = strtolower($sessionAct['category']); $dateVote = timeAgo($sessionAct['date']); $datePost = timeAgo($sessionAct['datetimerss']); $dateComm = timeAgo($sessionAct['comm_date']); $namePost = $sessionAct['name']; $nameComm = $sessionAct['comm_name']; $nameVote = $sessionAct['user_name']; $idVote = $sessionAct['post_id']; $idPost = $sessionAct['id']; $idComm = $sessionAct['comm_postid']; $contentPost = $sessionAct['content']; $contentComm = $sessionAct['comm_content']; $typeComm = $sessionAct['type']; if ($namePost == $user) { $classList = 'storyPost'; $classIcon = 'iconMuttr'; $name = $namePost; $content = $contentPost .' ... read more'; $datetime = $datePost; } elseif ($nameComm == $user && $typeComm == "Comment") { $classList = 'actionPost'; $classIcon = 'iconComment'; $name = $nameComm; $content = 'Commented "'. $contentComm .'"'; $datetime = $dateComm; } elseif ($nameComm == $user && $typeComm == "Advice") { $classList = 'actionPost'; $classIcon = 'iconAdvice'; $name = $nameComm; $content = 'gave Advice "'. $contentComm .'"'; $datetime = $dateComm; } elseif ($nameVote == $user) { if ($sessionAct['vote'] == "1") { $classList = 'actionPost'; $classIcon = 'iconLaughed'; $name = $nameVote; $content = 'Laughed at "'. $contentPost .'"'; $datetime = $dateVote; } elseif ($sessionAct['vote'] == "2") { $classList = 'actionPost'; $classIcon = 'iconLoved'; $name = $nameVote; $content = 'Showed Love on "'. $contentPost .'"'; $datetime = $dateVote; } elseif ($sessionAct['vote'] == "3") { $classList = 'actionPost'; $classIcon = 'iconIdiot'; $name = $nameVote; $content = 'called '. $namePost .' an Idiot for "'. $contentPost .'"'; $datetime = $dateVote; } } ?> <li class="row-activity <?php echo $classList; ?>"> <a href="" class="avatar"><img src="/images/avatars/default_male.jpg" /></a> <div class="info"> <div class="userName"> <a href=""><?php echo $name; ?></a> </div> <span class="msgBody"><?php echo $content; ?></span> <div class="imgTimeStream"> <span class="img <?php echo $classIcon; ?>"></span> <span class="source"><?php echo $datetime; ?></span> </div> </div> </li> <?php } } else { echo '<p>This user has no recent activity.</p>'; } ?> </ul> I am by no means an expert programmer...everything I know I have pretty much taught myself over the past year or two, so I can only imagine how ugly this truly is lol. I am learning each and everyday though, and I hope to continue Also, within each type of activity, there will be slightly different CSS classes on some things. Example: if the result row is a post then the css class of the list item would be "post" if the result row is a vote then the css class of the list item would be "vote" etc. Any help would be appreciated! This topic has been moved to Application Design. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=326408.0 Let's see if I can explain this ok.. Basically I have a site and the page product categories use dynamically created URL's. I want to use these URL's to put on my products so I can list all the categories each product is in. But, as these URL's are not stored anywhere I'm not sure how to go about calling them. Is the best way going to be to modify the site to store the page URL's in MySQL? Or could they be stored within variables in PHP? A little guidance would be great! Thanks in advance Hi, I am struggling with a form in php. I am trying to add a form by using the include function. I want to include thsi form on all pages so it would be very useful if I can save the current page name somewhere so that I can use to validate the form. For example, this is the form I am trying to include. <?php if(!empty($errors)) { if(isset($errors['sendError'])) { echo '<p><strong class="error">There was a problem with our system please contact us directly.</strong></p>'; } else { echo '<p><strong class="error">Please check the form below for errors.</strong></p>'; } } ?> <form action="index.php" method="post" id="form1"> <p> <label><?php if(isset($errors['name'])) { echo '<span class="error">'; } ?>Name<font color="red">*</font>: <?php if(isset($errors['name'])) { echo '</span>'; } ?></label> <input id="search1" id="complete" type="text" value="<?php echo $form['name']; ?>" name="name" size="60" align="right" style="background:#EEF5A4" /> <label><?php if(isset($errors['company'])) { echo '<span class="error">'; } ?>Company: <?php if(isset($errors['company'])) { echo '</span>'; } ?></label> <input id="search1" id="complete" type="text" value="<?php echo $form['company']; ?>" name="company" size="60" align="right" /> <label><?php if(isset($errors['phone'])) { echo '<span class="error">'; } ?>Phone Number: <?php if(isset($errors['phone'])) { echo '</span>'; } ?></label> <input id="search1" id="complete" type="text" value="<?php echo $form['phone']; ?>" name="phone" size="60" align="right" /> <label><?php if(isset($errors['email'])) { echo '<span class="error">'; } ?>Email<font color="red">*</font>: <?php if(isset($errors['email'])) { echo '</span>'; } ?></label> <input id="search1" id="complete" type="text" value="<?php echo $form['email']; ?>" name="email" size="60" align="right" style="background:#EEF5A4" /> <label><?php if(isset($errors['enquiry'])) { echo '<span class="error">'; } ?>Enquiry: <?php if(isset($errors['enquiry'])) { echo '</span>'; } ?></label> <textarea id="search1" id="complete" textarea name="enquiry" rows=4 cols=40 value="<?php echo $form['enquiry']; ?>" name="enquiry" size="60" align="right"></textarea> </p> <p> <input type="submit" class="formbutton" value="Submit" /> <input type="reset" class="formbutton" value="Reset" /> </p> <p><font color="red">*</font> Denotes a required field</p> </form> Because I am going to use this form on all pages, I would like it to include whatever the filename is rather than index.php in the first line of the form so that when the user clicks submit, it will stay on the same page but validate the form based on the mandatory fields. I don't know if the question is clear. I would very much appreciate any help at all. Thank you very much. Hello all, I'm having some problems with a script ive written which is designed to allow me to send a message to all the users of my site. the form works fine, the SQL works fine but im having a problem with storing php variables and outputting them in the message. The form has a field named "allmessage" which is where i'll type my message, I'll type something like "Hello $Name" and store the text as $allmessage = $_POST['allmessage']; example script //loops through each member while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($sql)) { //sets variables $ID=$row['ID']; $Name=$row['MemberName']; $Email=$row['Email']; $content_type = 'Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"' ; mail($Email, $allsubject, $allmessage, $content_type); } //loop ends send us a copy of the mail mail("me@me.com", $allsubject, $allmessage, $headers ); Now what I want to be outputted in the email is "Hello John" or "Hello Paul" but what I get is "Hello $Name". Any ideas?! So, on my website, i have added a "last active" feature, so if someone is surfing the site, they can view when another users last page visit was. so, every second, +1 is added to the $ts variable what i have now, working and all, shows ONLY "NOW!", or ONLY "1 second", ONLY "___ seconds ago"... and so on I have tred over, and over, and over to fix this to my liking, with more instances available, as an example, my current script will show somebody who is 13 months and 26 days inactive, just as "1 year", i want to see the "1 year, 1 month, and 26 days inactive"... or even simpler, just so it displays days/minutes/seconds/NOW! function howlongtil($ts) { $ts=$ts - time(); if ($ts<1) // <1 second return " NOW"; elseif ($ts==1) // <1 second return $ts." second"; elseif ($ts<60) // <1 minute return $ts." seconds"; elseif ($ts<120) // 1 minute return "1 minute"; elseif ($ts<60*60) // <1 hour return floor($ts/60)." minutes"; elseif ($ts<60*60*2) // <2 hour return "1 hour"; elseif ($ts<60*60*24) // <24 hours = 1 day return floor($ts/(60*60))." hours"; elseif ($ts<60*60*24*2) // <2 days return "1 day"; elseif ($ts<(60*60*24*7)) // <7 days = 1 week return floor($ts/(60*60*24))." days"; elseif ($ts<60*60*24*30.5) // <30.5 days ~ 1 month return floor($ts/(60*60*24*7))." weeks"; elseif ($ts<60*60*24*365) // <365 days = 1 year return floor($ts/(60*60*24*30.5))." months"; else // more than 1 year return floor($ts/(60*60*24*365))." years"; }; anyone know how? Hi, i would like to know what is the best method to store a picture. Currently what happens, is each user has a different avatar, which when uploaded comes in a folder called Avatar, in my website folder and is also stored as a BLOB in mysql. I would like to know is this ok to store all avatars in one folder or some other step should be used and if so could some one guide me to a good tutorial. As I would also like to make an option, where people could upload their pictures, is it safe to store pictures in the same folder for all users or some how create a different folder for each user. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with this: The file uploads fine, the url however does not get posted to the database? I added a 'or die' but it didn't execute...Do I need to move the query higher up the script? <?php include ('base.php'); $id = $_GET['id']; if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif") || ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg") || ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")) && ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)) { if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) { echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br />"; } else { echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br />"; echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br />"; echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " Kb<br />"; echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br />"; if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) { echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. "; } else { move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"], "imgs/pictures/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]); echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]; } } } else { echo "Invalid file"; } $file = $_FILES["file"]["name"]; $sql = "UPDATE `chillp_security`.`staff` SET `picture` = \'imgs/pictures/$file\' WHERE `staff`.`id` = $id;"; ?> Im making a application but many users can access it at the same time, also the data that needs to be stored into the database in 3 parts firstly the user will enter some details the comany will fill out the reamining details and the user will then accept or decline the companies proposal. The issue im havign will it be easier to just store all of this information into session variables and then save them into the database at the end when all of the details are ready ? Thank You Code: [Select] <?php $going=''; $name='<span id="name"></span>'; echo "$name"; //results : stevengoh --- wanted $going=substr($name, 1, 17); echo "$name"; //results : <span id="going"> ---- don't want ?> Is it possible to store in php the results of variable id="going" javascript instead of <span id="going"></span>?. Alright, the register/login system is fully working with sql injection, BUUUT now I want to store their IP Address. WHOLE new function that I've never dealt with before. So I need some help. Am I doing something wrong? I have the IPadd in the database as INT(10) and then I went down to another drop down list and hit unsigned. I feel like I'm doing something wrong with the field in the database.. { $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] = $IPadd; $sql = "INSERT INTO Member (username, createDate, password, firstName, email,IPadd) VALUES ('$username',NOW(),md5('$password'),'$firstName','$email',inet_aton('$IPadd'))"; mysqli_query($cxn,$sql); $_SESSION['auth']="yes"; $_SESSION['username'] = $username; header("Location: testing.php"); } Hey guys, What would you recommend to store db values for later? the only thing I can come up with is doing it this way: $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users WHERE name='$user'"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { } { and then using the $row['dbvariable'] later is that the best way? Okay, so I have a form and now I am trying to write the post data to a db. The thing is, the way the HTML was designed, I had to adopt a poor naming convention in order to satisfy some other requirements. I'm just getting into PHP.. Is it possible to assign PHP variables and then store these variables to my database instead? Right now, I have an e-mail sent to myself but it looks like gibberish.. So I started doing this Quote $CostReadiness= $_POST['tfa_ReadinessCostEst']; $BudgetReadiness= $_POST['ReadinessBudgetc']; $Recommendations= $_POST['tfa_ReadinessITAsses']; and such for all of my entries.. Could I set up a table using these variables? Hi, I am having a wierd problem and I dont know what is causing it - PHP/MySql.? Server - Apache on Fedora Php - 5.3.2 MySql - 5.1.47 In the same server config I have implemented storing files into blob fields any type of file by using mysql as well as mysqli. The one implemented by mysql is working just fine. But the one using mysqli is not working for anything other than text files. For image files the following error is coming - Error interpreting JPEG image file (Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x0a 0xff) For word/pdf etc the files are getting corrupted in such a way that the concerned application is not recognising it as a valid document. /*MySQL using mysql_connect Storing*/ $name=trim($_POST['fname']); $desc=trim($_POST['description']); $file=$_FILES['formfile']['name']; $filetype=$_FILES['formfile']['type']; $filename=$_FILES['formfile']['tmp_name']; $fileerror=$_FILES['formfile']['error']; $filesize=$_FILES['formfile']['size']; $fp = fopen($filename, 'r'); $content = fread($fp, filesize($filename)); fclose($fp); if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $content = addslashes($content); $name=addslashes($name); } $query="insert into forms_master (name, description, data, filename, filesize, filetype, entrydate) values ("; $query.="'$name', '$desc', '$content', '$file', '$filesize', '$filetype', now())"; /*Retreiving*/ $id=$_GET[sha1('id')]; $form=mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query("select filename, filesize, filetype, data from forms_master where sha1(id)='$id'", $link)); header("Content-length: ".$form['filesize']); header("Content-type: ".$form['filetype']); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$form['filename']); print $form['data']; Works absolutely fine /*MySQL using mysqli_connect Storing */ $file=$_FILES['fname']; $name=$file['name']; $tmp_name=$file['tmp_name']; $size=$file['size']; $type=$file['type']; $fp = fopen($tmp_name, 'r'); $content = fread($fp, filesize($tmp_name)); fclose($fp); $content = mysqli_real_escape_string($link, $content); $name=mysqli_real_escape_string($link, $name); $query="insert into document_master (name, size, filetype, data) values ('$name', '$size', '$type', '$content')"; //Retreiving $id=$_GET[sha1('id')]; $file=mysqli_fetch_array(mysqli_query($link, "select name, size, filetype, data from document_master where sha1(id)='$id'")); header("Content-type: ".$file['filetype']); header("Content-length: ".strlen($file['size'])); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$file['name']); print $file['data']; Note. I uploaded an image file through phpMyAdmin. Then tried to retreive it via the mysqli code above. The same error came. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hello all, I'm currently working on a project and it is the first time I have had to store/retrieve an array with PHP and MySQL. Basically its a website that has a list of discounts/coupons on it. People can register and submit their discounts and such. I am storing an array for who is eligible for the discount, as well as which categories the discount falls under. I did some googling and there seems to be tons of thoughts on the best way to do this. Some say to use implode/explode, some say to serialize/unserialize, I was just wondering if there is a common, concrete way to do this? I will need to be able to search the array for its contents. So if children are eligible for the discount, I need to be able to store that in a database, retrieve it later, and search it for only "Children" so I can display the discounts available only to children. If someone could please advise the best way to do this and post some examples, it would be greatly appreciated. I learn best with examples that are explained properly. I need to find a way to store a password for connection to a remote database. I'm writing a program that will create a database on whatever server the user is using. Obviously, they will have to provide their username and password in order to create the database and have access to it. I need my program to get the information once (when they use the setup utility), then be able to store it so they can automatically connect to the database whenever my program is used. I plan using a php file for storage and include() to gain access to the info. I just don't have an idea for getting the information into the php file in the first place. Thanks for any ideas! Quote i want to store a value from a database and use it as variable in php code can anyone help me out in this code i want to store value of copies in a php variable and want that it should be more than 0 (zero) for furthur calculations $update_book="update book set copies=copies-1 where bookid='$bookid'"; $result=mysql_query($update_book,$linkID1); if($result) { print "<html><body background=\"header.jpg\"> <p>book successfully subtracted from database</p></body></html>"; } else { print "<html><body background=\"header.jpg\"> <p>problem occured</p></body></html>"; } Hello everyone I wonder if you could help me. I want to create a function called <?php function mythings($what) Which would allow me to pass an ID number to, such as <?php mythings(5419); What I want to do with that function is store the ID numbers of the past 6 items I have viewed, but I want to store each item as a SESSION once it has been passed. So essentially I would end up with the following 6 SESSIONS <?php $_SESSION['item1']; $_SESSION['item2']; $_SESSION['item3']; $_SESSION['item4']; $_SESSION['item5']; $_SESSION['item6']; So the "item1" SESSION would be the latest item ID passed through the function But then if I then passed a new ID through the function, that new ID passed would then become $_SESSION['item1']; and the current SESSION $_SESSION['item1']; would become $_SESSION['item2']; and $_SESSION['item2']; would become $_SESSION['item3']; and so on. This means I can do a list such as <?php print "Item 1".$_SESSION['item1']."<br>"; print "Item 2".$_SESSION['item2']."<br>"; print "Item 3".$_SESSION['item3']."<br>"; print "Item 4".$_SESSION['item4']."<br>"; print "Item 5".$_SESSION['item5']."<br>"; print "Item 6".$_SESSION['item6']."<br>"; ?> Does that make much sense? Can anyone help. Thanks very much all John |
