PHP - Writing An Xml Validator Function
Hi, I found this very good tutorial at IBM's site:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-validxphp/ BUT my question is, what if any arbitrary XML file is passed passed to this xml validator function as parameter (that I will soon write), so meaning there may not be an xml schema created, so how would I validate it then b/c the link above assumes there a schema is made to use to validate. Any help much appreicated! Similar TutorialsHi, I modified the php.net's xml validate function slightly to just print "Valid XML" or else print all the errors, but it is not working. It keeps outputting "Valid XML" even though I intentionally appended "SS" to the closing message tag. Here is the script: Code: [Select] $dom_=<<<START <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?> <email> <message> <to> <toFirstName type="common">Bob</toFirstName> <toLastName kind="swag">Smith</toLastName> </to> <from> <fromFirstName>Steve</fromFirstName> <fromLastName>Yzerman</fromLastName> </from> </messageSS> </email> START; //validate($dom_); //FCN SOURCE:php.net in section on libxml_get_errors libxml_use_internal_errors(true); $xml = explode("\n", $dom_); $errors = libxml_get_errors(); if(empty($errors)) print "Valid XML"; else { foreach ($errors as $error) { echo display_xml_error($error, $xml); } libxml_clear_errors(); } function display_xml_error($error, $xml) { $return = $xml[$error->line - 1] . "\n"; $return .= str_repeat('-', $error->column) . "^\n"; switch ($error->level) { case LIBXML_ERR_WARNING: $return .= "Warning $error->code: "; break; case LIBXML_ERR_ERROR: $return .= "Error $error->code: "; break; case LIBXML_ERR_FATAL: $return .= "Fatal Error $error->code: "; break; } $return .= trim($error->message) . "\n Line: $error->line" . "\n Column: $error->column"; if ($error->file) { $return .= "\n File: $error->file"; } return "$return\n\n--------------------------------------------\n\n"; } Any help is much appreciated, thanks. So I know next to nothing about PHP so I need some help with something thats probably incredibly easy. I just need a function(hope I'm using that right) that checks if a div with a certain class exists in the same page. then based on whether that's true or not changes the class of an image. This is how I imagine it looks except I don't know what to put in the if brackets to make it find the div and evaluate if its there or not. <img if (){ echo(class=\"visible\"); } else{ echo(class=\"hidden\"); } } src=\"icon.png\" /> I am going through the tutorial found at http://goo.gl/69MeY and in my ultimate wisdom have decided to see if I can create a form, which you input some text, and then in the php file that handles the form in puts that variable into a text document using the fwrite function, basically creating a file from the website containing whatever text you put in. There is no specific purpose to this idea, I am just trying to implement everything I have learnt so far. Form: http://pastebin.com/J62UHBeT PHP Handler: http://pastebin.com/FHuaKkxD I someone could point me in the right direction of what I am doing wrong it would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Michael Hello, the below validator keeps saying invalid email, can you notice any issues: <form name="input" action="check.php" method="post"> Username: <input type="text" id="email" name="email" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> Check.php <?php if (isset($_REQUEST['email'])) { $email = trim($_POST['email']); if(!checkEmail($email)) { echo 'Invalid email address!'; } else { echo 'Email address is valid'; } } function checkEmail($email) { if(preg_match("/^( [a-zA-Z0-9] )+( [a-zA-Z0-9\._-] )*@( [a-zA-Z0-9_-] )+( [a-zA-Z0-9\._-] +)+$/" , $email)) { list($username,$domain)=split('@',$email); if(!checkdnsrr($domain, 'MX')) { return false; } if(!fsockopen($domain,25,$errno,$errstr,30)) { return false; } return true; } return false; } ?> Many thanks Is w3c a truce source to follow for any errors found on a website?
For eg. I have my links setup like this. < a href="record.php?id=4&user=smith"></a>
W3C is tell me to not use "&" symbol and that instead escape it as &
So what do I just replace & with & in all my links?
Ok, so I used to be very good in HTML, PHP, and JS, but it's been a long time since I used it. been trying to make just a simple order form for a friends business. Though I wanted it to do server side validation and emailing... But it doesn't do anything.... on submit I get no errors when there are and with no errors I get no email to my inbox.. What it is supposed to do is gather what pictures they checked and their sizes as well as a person info and email it to an email address. Though I want it to check for required areas and correct input (like email has @ and a .com in it, zip is digits only, etc... But yeah my code shows the order form and looks nice, but does nothing.... Code: [Select] <?php require_once "formvalidator.php"; $error_hash = 'no'; $show_form = true; class MyValidator extends CustomValidator { function DoValidate(&$formars,&$error_hash) { if(stristr($formars['comments'],'http://')) { $error_hash['comments']="No URLs allowed in comments"; return false; } return true; } } if (isset($_REQUEST['Submit'])) { $validator = new FormValidator(); $validator->addValidation("email", "email", "<B>Email address is invalid.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("first", "req", "<B>Please provide your first name for invoice.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("addr", "req", "<B>Please provide your address for invoice.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("city", "req", "<B>Please provide your city name for invoice.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("zip", "req", "<B>Please provide your zipcode for invoice.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("last", "req", "<B>Please provide your last name for invoice.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("zip", "num", "<B>Numbers only in Zipcode.</B>"); $validator->addValidation("phone", "num", "<B>Numbers only in phone number.</B>"); if ($validator->ValidateForm()) { $show_form = false; } else { echo "<center><font color='#CC0000'><B>Validation Errors:</B></font></center>"; $error_hash = $validator->GetErrors(); foreach ($error_hash as $inpname => $inp_err) { echo "<center><p>$inpname : $inp_err</p></center>\n"; $show_form = true; } } if ($show_form === false){ // Grab the form vars $Pic = $_REQUEST['pic[]'] ; $Size = $_REQUEST['size[]'] ; $Email = $_REQUEST['email']; $Name = $_REQUEST['first'. if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { $emailconfirm = $_POST['emailconfirm']; $user_message = $_POST['message']; $name = $_POST['name']; $visitor_email = $_POST['email']; if(empty($name)|| empty($visitor_email)|| empty($user_message)) { $errors .= "<div id='contact_form_errorloc' class='err1'>Some of the above fields have not been filled in.</div><br>"; } This however, does not check for valid emails, I've found this code: function is_valid_email($email) { $result = TRUE; if(!eregi("^[_a-z0-9-]+(\.[_a-z0-9-]+)*@[a-z0-9-]+(\.[a-z0-9-]+)*(\.[a-z]{2,4})$", $email)) { $result = FALSE; } return $result; } My question was if the above is possible aswell as incorporating the blank field checks. Many thanks! Ubuntu PHP Mysql So I got this form validator script online and I applied the validator part of it to my own form. My form requires a NAME and a SERIAL to be inputted and the SERIAL must be all numbers. I tested the validator by leaving NAME blank in my form and SERIAL all letters. The dispalyed resutls show the correct error messages: "Name : Please fill in a name for this computer." and "Serial : Please fill in a serial number for this computer." But the entry is still submitted with the errors and all. Here is my validator script. It begins by calling the script I got online which is from this website: http://www.html-form-guide.com/php-form/php-form-validation.html <?PHP require_once "formvalidator.php"; $validator = new FormValidator(); $validator->addValidation("Name","req","Please fill in a name for this computer."): $validator->addValidation("Serial","req","Please fill in a serial number for this computer"); $validator->addValidation("Serial","num","Serial number must be only numeric values"); if($validator->ValidateForm()) { echo "<h2>Validation Success!</h2>"; } else { echo "<B>Validation Errors:</B>"; $error_hash = $validator->GetErrors(); foreach($error_hash as $inpname => $inp_err) { echo "<p>$inpname : $inp_err</p>\n"; } } } ?> Hello all,
I am an absolute beginner when it comes to PHP and Javascript but wanted a simple contact form for my website. I used the PHP code from one source and the Javascript validator code from another source and all is working fine except for one very annoying bug: I have to press the Submit button twice in order for the form to send the email. I've found that if the validator is already triggered, however, I only need to press the button once for it to submit. I have scoured the internet for a solution to this problem but am realizing this must be a hangup in the particular code I'm using and I'm just not experienced enough to troubleshoot it.
A little help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Here's the client side code (truncated to only show relevant parts):
<html> <head> <script src="js/gen_validatorv4.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <form method="post" action="contact.php" name="contactform"> <div class="row collapse-at-2 half"> <div class="6u"> <input name="name" placeholder="Name" type="text" /> </div> <div class="6u"> <input name="email" placeholder="Email" type="text" /> </div> </div> <div class="row half"> <div class="12u"> <textarea name="message" placeholder="Message"></textarea> </div> </div> <div class="row half"> <div class="12u"> <ul class="actions"> <li><input type="submit" value="Send Message" /></li> <li><input type="reset" value="Clear form" /></li> </ul> </div> </div> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> var myformValidator = new Validator("contactform"); myformValidator.addValidation("name","req", "Please provide your name."); myformValidator.addValidation("email","req", "Please provide your email."); myformValidator.addValidation("message","req", "Please enter your message."); myformValidator.addValidation("email","email", "Please enter a valid email address."); </script> </body> </html> I have posted this problem in the PHP section but someone suggested I take it here because the hangup is likely in the JS. I have tried removing the JS validator with varying results; sometimes the form still requires double-clicking and sometimes it works fine. Please see my original post below:

I'm writing a script that takes user input from a html form and updates the database with the new data. In this example the user is updating the data about the university they attend. The problem with this is, the script to update the database with the new information appears to be not working - the new data is not being added to the database. The SQL queries used in the script work in phpMyadmin, and the variables - $uni and $username - contain the data the correct data. This has me stumped, could someone look over this for me please and tell me what is going wrong here. I am new to these forums, I am working on this assignment, and these are the current issues I am running into.
Notice: Undefined variable: year in G:\EasyPHP-5.3.2i\www\PHP_Projects\ChineseZodiacs\zodiac_year_switch.php on line 77

Notice: Undefined variable: year_count in G:\EasyPHP-5.3.2i\www\PHP_Projects\ChineseZodiacs\zodiac_year_switch.php on line 138
ie. echo "<p>You are person " . $year_count . "to enter " . $year . "</p>\n";
Honestly, I believe they are linked, because what should be happening, as the user enters the year, and hits submit, it should create a file called counts/$year.txt - $year should equal the entered data in the textbox, any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help.

I'm trying to write to a file with the following code. $fh = fopen("../inc/config.php", "a") or die("\r\nCan't open file."); $write = "\$config['database_host'] = {$mysqlh}; \$config['database_user'] = {$mysqlu}; \$config['datbase_pass'] = {$mysqlp}; \$config['datbase_name'] = {$dbn}; \$config['table_prefix'] = {$tp};"; fwrite($fh, $write); fclose($fh); It is printing out "Can't open file", which I guess means it can't find the file or I've given the wrong path. The file that is executing this code is /install and the file I'm trying to write to is /inc/config.php. I thought .. put you up a directory so if I do .. I will be at the root and then do /inc I will be in inc. Can someone please guide me on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. I have written some code to past information from one page to a diffrent page however all the variables are sent over but they are not writting to the database could anyone help me out please .... $ud_P_Id = $_POST['ud_P_Id']; $ud_LastName = $_POST['ud_LastName']; $ud_FirstName = $_POST['ud_FirstName']; $ud_GroupCode=$_POST['ud_GroupCode']; $ud_P_Unit1=$_POST['ud_P_Unit1']; $ud_P_Unit2=$_POST['ud_P_Unit2']; $ud_P_Unit3=$_POST['ud_P_Unit3']; $ud_P_Unit6=$_POST['ud_P_Unit6']; $ud_P_Unit14=$_POST['ud_P_Unit14']; $ud_P_Unit20=$_POST['ud_P_Unit20']; $ud_P_Unit27=$_POST['ud_P_Unit27']; $ud_P_Unit28=$_POST['ud_P_Unit28']; $ud_P_Unit42=$_POST['ud_P_Unit42']; $ud_P_Unit10=$_POST['ud_P_Unit10']; $ud_P_Unit11=$_POST['ud_P_Unit11']; $ud_P_Unit12=$_POST['ud_P_Unit12']; $ud_P_Unit13=$_POST['ud_P_Unit13']; $ud_P_Unit1454=$_POST['ud_P_Unit1454']; $ud_P_Unit15=$_POST['ud_P_Unit15']; $ud_P_Unit16=$_POST['ud_P_Unit16']; $ud_P_Unit17=$_POST['ud_P_Unit17']; $ud_P_Unit18=$_POST['ud_P_Unit18']; $con = mysql_connect('localhost', 'lccstude_progre', '********'); $db= "lccstude_pro"; if (! $con) die("Couldn't connect to MySQL"); mysql_select_db($db , $con) or die("Couldn't open $db: ".mysql_error()); mysql_query("UPDATE BTECL31113 SET FirstName='$ud_FirstName' , LastName='$ud_LastName' , GroupCode='$ud_GroupCode' , Unit1='$ud_P_Unit1' , Unit2='$ud_P_Unit2' , Unit3='$ud_P_Unit3' , Unit6='$ud_P_Unit6' , Unit14='$ud_P_Unit14' , Unit20='$ud_P_Unit20' , Unit27='$ud_P_Unit27' , Unit28='$ud_P_Unit28' , Unit42='$ud_P_Unit42' , Unit10='$ud_P_Unit10' , Unit11='$ud_P_Unit11' , Unit12='$ud_P_Unit12' , Unit13='$ud_P_Unit13' , Unit1454='$ud_P_Unit1454' , Unit15='$ud_P_Unit15' , Unit16= $ud_P_Unit16' , Unit17='$ud_P_Unit17' , Unit18='$ud_P_Unit18' WHERE P_Id='$ud_P_Id'"); echo "Record Updated"; mysql_close($con); Please any help would be great I have a web app hosted on Just Host that I have nearly finished writing but still needs to have coded the ability to write a text file to user's computer. the user should be able to specify where on their computer they would like the file to be stored. Is this possible ? And can you tell me how it's done, or point me to a souce that can tell me I rarely ever ask for help regarding programming, but this has flumoxed me. If it is not possible to do this, then would I have to generate this file on the Host's server (Just Host in my case), then download it ? If this can be done then can you please tell me how, as any info I have found related to file downloads seems a bit obscure thanks in advance |
