PHP - Query Was Empty And Login Form Just Keeps Looping

I'm not sure what i have done wrong here...
all it says is "Query was empty"

What I am looking for is that if any field in a database is empty, the form comes back and puts in the word "empty" into the web page, but not the database.


I got this right now, it shows the first part fine, but the second part it doesn't show the "Empty" comment... I don't understand why... as far as I can tell the code is fine...

I got a connection to the database, I tested for it. I can't find the problem.

I know the following simple demonstration fails and what to do to rectify it (though with a lot of additional code is necessary), but I don't know why this is the behaviour. It would be great if someone could explain to me why, and what the neatest way of fixing it would be.

Because the $number variable is empty, this simple query fails. Logically, one would think that nothing or NULL gets inserted to that field since the MySQL structure rule states that default is NULL, and since nothing is fed to it in the query, I think that it would automatically be NULL since if the column is omitted, that is exactly the value that will be inserted.

Enclosing the variable with quotes is not preferable since this field accepts integers. Also, converting the variable to an integer by (int)$number results in a 0, which is not what I want either. Checking if the variable is empty of not, and if it is, assign $number = "''" so that the query would succeed by enclosing the empty string with single quotes. But this creates a lot of unnecessary code (some of my tables are 80 columns wide and the query therefore have equal amount of variables).

So to summarise, why is this happening and how do I neatly avoid assigning quotes to the empty strings? In other words, how do I insert nothing when variables that usually contain an integer is on occation empty?

Hi, I hope you guys can help me out. I only know basic PHP and also SQL.  I haven't tried using connecting database yet.

My problem is that I'm trying to INSERT a data into an existing table using access but when it reaches $rs = odbc_exec(); it returns an error that the query was empty.

i need help an idea how can i separate members from admins
since i dont know how to create login form i used tutorial ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oSCuEtxRK8 )   (its session login form only that i made it work other tutorials wre too old or something)
how what i want to do is separate members and admins because admin need more rights to do
now i have idea but dont know will it work like that
what i want to do is create additional row in table named it flag and create 0 (inactive user) 1 (member) 2 (admin) will that work?
and how can i create different navigation bars for users and admins? do you recommend that i use different folders to create it or just script based on session and flag?

I have a form on a page which is accessed when a user logs into their account.
The form dynamically pulls bits of the users info from 2 tables in a mysql database, Tables (ITEMS) and Table (USERS).
Table (USERS) holds the users info (NAME, EMAIL ETC) while Table (ITEMS) hold information about the users items for which they may have several of.
When the form page is accessed all the users items from Table (ITEMS) are dynamically shown on the form with several radio buttons at the side of each item.
The user can tick certain radio buttonss at the side of each item and click the send button.

TRYING TO ACHIEVE...
After the form is sent a thank you message is returned on the same page with details of the items and what radios were ticked.
An Email of the same is sent to user with info of the items and what radios were ticked.
An Email is also sent to me with same info of the items and what radios were ticked.

WHAT I AM ACHIEVING SO FAR WITH CODE BELOW:
The form page is ok showing all users items, radios, send button etc.
The returned thank you page is fine showing items, what radios were checked etc.
Even the email part is working sending an email to the user and myself.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT A SEPERATE EMAIL IS SENT TO BOTH OF US FOR EACH ITEM THE USER HAS IN THE DATABASE.
I JUST WANT ONE EMAIL SENDING TO BOTH OF US DETAILING ALL ITEMS.

I realise this is because of the while statement in the call to the database which is looping the below code for each item thus sending an email for each item.

What I can not suss out is how to send just the one email with all items on.
Tried moving the closing loop bracket all over the place and parts of the code but to not avail.

This is unfinished code thats why I have left the echos in.  Before I add the require it detected the empty line OK.   Any suggestions?

Hello, this question was already answered on this form but the answer was deleted by admin a year or so ago. anyway, I have an edit items page with multiple images and I do not want to have to relocate all of the images manually but if I do not then an empty variable is passed to mysql, thus deleting my image. What do I need to know to write a code that will not pass an empty variable to my table? Do I use sprint?

I dont understand why this simple validation im doing isnt working. I got rid of all my code and took it down to its simpliest form. I tried every debuging i can think of using echo's. If all fields are blank it performs as suspected and echos all fields are empty.

but if i type something in one of the fields or all the fields at once it never goes onto the else statment. Is it possible to display everything a page is doing? in like true and false statements.

i have a problem here,

Iv got a form  that uploads images to a folder and updates the db with the name of that image, that work ok

but if one of the upload field are left blank then the script updates the db with empty values
how can i get it to only update the db with only submitted form field data????

Say I have this query:

site.com?var=1

..I have a form with 'var2' field which submits via get.

Is there a way to produce:

site.com?var=1&var2=formdata

I was hoping there would be a quick way to affix, but can't find any info. Also, the query could sometimes be:

site.com?var2=formdata&var=1

I would have to produce:

site.com?var2=updatedformdata&var=1

Is my only option to further parse the query?
