Hello all - I'm fairly new to PHP and have been following some online tutorials to learn more, but hit a wall concerning a form that would allow a user to upload an image to his/her specified directory. Basically, I'd like the user to have to put in a password to upload. This "password" would actually just be the name of their directory on the server, so if a user put in "michael83" in as their password, the image would upload to "http://www.mysite.com/images/uploaded/michael83/". Here's my code so far: <form name="newad" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="upload.php" onSubmit="return validate_form ( );"> <table> <tr><td><input type="file" name="image"></td></tr> <tr><td> </td></tr> <tr><td>Password:</td></tr> <tr><td><input type="text" name="password"></td></tr> <tr><td> </td></tr> <tr><td><input name="Submit" type="submit" value="Upload"></td></tr> </table> </form> <?php define ("MAX_SIZE","1536"); function getExtension($str) { $i = strrpos($str,"."); if (!$i) { return ""; } $l = strlen($str) - $i; $ext = substr($str,$i+1,$l); return $ext; } $errors=0; if(isset($_POST['Submit'])) { $image=$_FILES['image']['name']; $dir=$_POST['username']; if ($image) { $filename = stripslashes($_FILES['image']['name']); $extension = getExtension($filename); $extension = strtolower($extension); if (($extension != "jpg") && ($extension != "jpeg") && ($extension != "png") && ($extension != "pdf") && ($extension != "gif")) { echo '<h4>Sorry, your file is an unknown extension.</h4>'; $errors=1; } else { $size=filesize($_FILES['image']['tmp_name']); if ($size > MAX_SIZE*1024) { echo '<h4>Sorry, you have exceeded the size limit.</h4>'; echo '<p>If you need more help with this, please <a href="#">contact us</a> directly.</p>'; $errors=1; } $newname="images/uploaded/".$image_name; $copied = copy($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'], $newname); if (!$copied) { echo '<h4>Oops, looks like the upload was unsuccessfull.</h4>'; echo '<p>If you continue to have problems, please <a href="#">contact us</a>.</p>'; $errors=1; }}}} if(isset($_POST['Submit']) && !$errors) { echo "<h4>Your file was uploaded successfully!</h4><br><br>"; echo '<a href="http://www.mysite.com/' . $newname . '">http://www.mysite.com/' . $newname . '</a><br><br>'; } ?> Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance! EDIT Note: I would be the one setting the directories up, so if the user enters a "password" (directory) that doesn't exist, the form would return an error. hey guys im trying to make a file upload script so that when the user uploads a pic it gets shown in a div...when you add another it is the added by the side of the 1st pic...but some reason when selecting a image nothing shows...

This prevents the image from being "stretched" // or "squashed". If you prefer some max width other than // 600, simply change the $newwidth variable $newwidth=600; $newheight=($height/$width)*600; $tmp=imagecreatetruecolor($newwidth,$newheight); // this line actually does the image resizing, copying from the original // image into the $tmp image imagecopyresampled($tmp,$src,0,0,0,0,$newwidth,$newheight,$width,$height); // now write the resized image to disk. I have a html form that is used to submit property details, There is multiple form inputs and also I need to upload multiple property images using Dropzone JS multiple image upload. Here I'm validating form inputs using jQuery Validation library. Validation works perfect and data Is being to posted to php file called submit_property_data.php. But when I implement the Dropzone JS image upload its not working.

What I actually need ?
I need to validate the form inputs first & upload the images once the form is valid also I need to post all the inputs to my php file called submit_property_data.php Also I need the image inputs to store into my database.
so what i have going on is that i need help writing a basic script to upload original and copy with resize for thumbnail. then also need to rename both image files with content in the form. My server supports GD Library and that imagemagik or whatever it is lol. upload dirs orig: ../media/photos/ thumb: ../media/photos/thumb/ mySQL DB: name: m_photos fields: id(INT) m_cat(varchar) m_sub_cat(varchar) pic(varchar) description(varchar) p_group(varchar) I have the form written up for how it should look like: Code: [Select] <form action="upload.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> Upload an image for processing<br /> <input type="file" name="Image"><br /> <select name="sub_group"> <option value="Photo Shoot">Photo Shoot</option> <option value="Live Performances">Live Performances</option> <option value="Randoms">Randoms</option> <option value="Fan Photos">Fan Photos</option> </select><br /> Location: <input type="text" name="p_group" /><br /> Date of Pic: <input type="text" name="date" /><br /> Description: <input type="text" name="description" /><br /> <input type="submit" value="Upload"> </form> so what needs to happen is for the file upload name. it needs to grab a count from "p_group" database to give it a starting number in a "00" pattern and then the date of pic needs to go in there next then the p_group name. so when the files gets uploaded it would look something like this after upload. "03 - Oct 21, 2011 - The Mex.jpg" NOTE: all pics must be converted to ".jpg" extension. both the orig and thumb will use that same file name cuz they just go into different dirs re-sizing for the thumbnail should be done by aspect ratio and needs to either be 300px width or 400px height. so if anyone would like to help me out please do. im not the greatest at writing in php yet In this multi file upload form, choose three images, click submit and preview the images on the preview page. If the user wishes to delete or replace an image, click edit and the form will go back to the previous page. Select the replace radio button for example on one of the three images and select a new image from the file input prompt and click submit. The form will go to the preview page again to display the images. During this process the image names are being input into a table and the images are being moved to a directory. The table is `id` AUTO_INCREMENT, `image0` `image1` `image2` `status` So input name='image[image0]' can be directed to table `image0` and so on. The code for keep and delete work fine, but how do I replace an image? I have two foreach blocks. The first one deletes the image file from the directory and deletes the image name from the table, but the second foreach dose not move the new image file into the directory. Thanks. <input type='radio' name='image[image0]' value='keep' checked='checked'/> <input type='radio' name='image[image0]' value='delete' /> <input type='radio' name='image[image0]' value='replace' /> <input type="file" name="image[]" /> <input type='radio' name='image[image1]' value='keep' checked='checked'/> <input type='radio' name='image[image1]' value='delete' /> <input type='radio' name='image[image1]' value='replace' /> <input type="file" name="image[]" /> <input type='radio' name='image[image2]' value='keep' checked='checked'/> <input type='radio' name='image[image2]' value='delete' /> <input type='radio' name='image[image2]' value='replace' /> <input type="file" name="image[]" /> <?php if (isset($_POST['status'])) { $status = $_POST['status']; $confirm_code = $status; #--------------------------- replace -------------------------------------------- if (isset($_POST['submitted']) && ($image = $_POST['image'])) { foreach($image as $imageKey => $imageValue) { if ($imageValue == 'replace') { $query = "SELECT $imageKey FROM table WHERE status = '$status' "; if($result = $db->query( $query )){ $row = $result->fetch_array(); } unlink( UPLOAD_DIR.$row[0] ); $query = "UPDATE table SET $imageKey = '' WHERE status = '$status' "; } } foreach($image as $imageKey => $imageValue) { if ($imageValue == 'replace') { $filenm = $_FILES['image']['name']; $file = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name']; move_uploaded_file($file, UPLOAD_DIR . $filenm); $filename[] = $filenm; $query = "INSERT INTO table VALUES ('','$filename[0]','$filename[1]','$filename[2]','$confirm_code')"; } } } } ?> Which one is better for standards practices in PHP. 1. Using the same form for everything. (Add and edit). Meaning setting up one form to handle adding new records, as well as editing existing records. Or 2. Using two different forms for both actions. Use one form/area to handle Adding, and one form/area to handle editing. Which one of these are better from a standards/practice point of a view. Which one better fits into the MVC platform (a framework like Codeignitor, or Cake). Should their be separate controller functions/views for add and edit or should they all be in the same controller function/form. Thanks for the feedback. How do I Upload Multiple Files using a PHP form and script? 10 files at one time would be great. Ultimately I need a photo upload and management script. Thanks!!! Hey guys, Recently I bumped into a little coding problem. I'm trying to submit information to a multi-part form (including an image upload). The receiving server couldn't read my input, figured I had a nill object somewhere (RoR). First I thought the problem was in my curl setopts, but I think they are fine. It looks like the problem is with the data I'm submitting. I read a bit about multi part posting, and every article I read advised to make a postfield array, which curl would interpret and send out correctly. I did and this was my resulting array: $postfield = array ("social[comments]" => "Test", "avatar_file" => "", "friend_avatar_file" => "", "forum_avatar_file" => "", "social[signature]" => "", "forum_signature_file" => "", "save_profile.x" => "25", "save_profile.y" => "9"); That failed. So I tried making it into a URLENCODED string: $postfield = "social%5Bcomments%5D=".stripslashes($_POST['textarea'])."&avatar_file=&friend_avatar_file=&forum_avatar_file=".$file."&social%5Bsignature%5D=&forum_signature_file=&save_profile.x=25&save_profile.y=9"; This finally worked. I was able to submit the info I wanted. I'd like to send a file with it this time though. I'd need to put this into a postfield array to work though. if(!$file = upload( )) { $file = ''; } else { $file = '@'.$file; } function upload( ) { if(isset($_FILES['file']) && !empty($_FILES['file']['name'])) { $uploaddir = "temp"; if(is_uploaded_file($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'])) { move_uploaded_file($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'],$uploaddir.'/'.$_FILES['file']['name']); $searchfile = $uploaddir.'/'.$_FILES['file']['name']; return $searchfile; } } return false; } So, I got the uploading covered. I need to put generate the postfield array though. I have the feeling the problem is with the brackets [ ] I'm using. I tried urlencoding the keys in the array, but that didn't work either. Does anybody have an idea on how to handle brackets in post (multi-part) data? Thanks in advance! Hi- the code below lets me upload a CSV file to my database if I have 1 field in my database and 1 column in my CSV.
