PHP - Annoying Problem Passing Variable As Parameter
I am experimenting around with PDO, I have a DB handle class and instancing it in a function. The problem is when I want to bind elements in a query, for example I bind a parameter but I can only do it using a varible outside of the object.
Code: [Select] <?php $database = new Database("localhost", "fry", "root", ""); $database->set_table("usertest"); $database->set_query("SELECT * FROM usertest WHERE user_name = :user_name"); $value = "matt"; $database->prepare_query(); $database->bind("parameter", ":user_name", $value ,PDO::PARAM_STR, 5); $database->execute(); while($result = $database->fetch()) { echo $result['user_name'].'<br />'; } ?> Is this bad OOP practice? I wanted to put $value = "matt"; into the Database class somehow here is the Database class Code: [Select] <?php class Database{ public $hostname; public $database; public $username; public $password; public $connection; public $prepare; public $query; public $table; public $fetch; public $bind_var; public $bind_val; function __construct($hostname, $database, $username, $password) { $this->hostname = $hostname; $this->database = $database; $this->username = $username; $this->password = $password; $this->Database_connection(); } public function Database_connection() { try { $this->connection = new PDO('mysql:host='.$this->hostname.';dbname='.$this->database, $this->username, $this->password); } catch (PDOException $e) { echo 'Connection failed: ' . $e->getMessage(); } } public function set_query($query) { $this->query = $query; } public function get_query() { return $this->query; } public function set_table($table) { $this->table = $table; } public function get_table() { return $this->table; } public function set_bind_var($var) { $bind_var = $var; } public function set_bind_val($val) { $bind_val = $val; } public function get_bind_var() { return $this->bind_var; } public function get_bind_val() { return $this->bind_val; } public function bind($bindtype, $val, $var, $pdo, $num) { if ($bindtype == "parameter") { $result = $this->prepare->bindParam($val,$var,$pdo); } return $result; } public function prepare_query() { $this->prepare = $this->connection->prepare($this->get_query()); } public function execute() { $this->prepare->execute(); } public function fetch() { return $this->prepare->fetch(); } } ?> Yet agian sorry for the sloppy code, this is mainly an experiment, would be very appriciated if someone could help me out with this problem. Similar TutorialsHello all, I'm an absolute Newbie to PHP. I'm struggling with a problem that I think is extremely basic to you experts but I just can't get it to work. In short, I have an application that has a link that goes to: Site1/dir/admin?id=(text)&page=(number) I want to redirect to a link that's identical except it's Site2 at the beginning instead of Site 1. What I've attempted so far is this: <?php $GLOBALS[$passid]=$_GET['id']; $GLOBALS[$passpage]=$_GET['page']; header( 'Location: http://site2.com/dir/admin/?page=$passpage&id=$passid'); ?> But it just redirects to http://site2.com/dir/admin/?page=$passpage&id=$passid (with all of that text being literally what is in the URL, not the variable values) I have a feeling I'm doing something small but very basic wrong. The $GLOBALS thing was an afterthought. Outcome is the same with or without that. Any help much appreciated!!! hello this is my first time posting so i'm sorry if i word this wrong or it is a stupid question. i have a simple database made up with a product table with five fields; id, url, name, description, and price. also a categories table with five fields; id, parent_id, siteurl, name, and description. i have everything up and running, but i can't figure out how to pass the product id as a parameter. right now i have "example.php" but i need "example.php?id=1" here is what my code looks like indextest.php Code: [Select] <?php error_reporting(0); ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Car Dealer</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <link href="stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <?php $usr = "root"; $pwd = ""; $db = "mymarket"; $host = "localhost"; //connect to database $cid = mysql_connect($host,$usr,$pwd); if (!$cid) { echo("ERROR: " . mysql_error() . The button doesn't use a form just a url: basket.php?action=add&id=1&qty=1 This adds the item into a basket using sessions rather than a database. The question is, how do I add three variables into my form so that they are sent via the URL and into the session? Wil I have to start again with a form? Maybe this is not the correct approach, i don't know. My goal is to attribute a string of a field of the form to a string variable in order to use this string variable in order to "auto fill" the field of the form previously completed. This is to do what is apparently called a sticky form... First the program attributes the string of a field of the form to a string variable : $EmitterFirstName = $_POST["EmitterFirstName"]; Then in the html form there is a field called "EmitterFirstName", and i want to use the string variable $EmitterFirstName in order to auto fill the field with the string previously typed by the user : <input type="text" name="EmitterFirstName" value="<?php $EmitterFirstName ?>"/> But it doesn't work as expected. Do you have any idea why or maybe an advice on how to code such a thing ? Thanks, How, if possible, can a $varĀ be passed to theĀ forms action php file? I tried everything with no success. Edited December 24, 2019 by cyberRobotRemoved email address This is driving me MAD! The Variable gets passed through the URL but when I try and echo the result I gte NOTHING. First Page. Code: [Select] <?php include'config.php'; $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM carbontrust"); while($entry = mysql_fetch_array($result)) Print "$entry[contact] - $entry[company] :: <a href='edit.php?id=$entry[id]'>Edit</a><br>"; exit; ?> Second Page. (Where I want the Variable passed to) Code: [Select] <?php include'config.php'; $id = $_GET['id']; echo "ID: $id"; } ?> Its probably just a stupid error but iv looked through a load of tutorials and this should be correct. :/ Hi, I am trying to pass a variable when posting a form. Hi, can anybody please tell me how i can make "Arson" into a php variable Code: [Select] <script type="text/javascript" src="js/swfobject.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> swfobject.embedSWF( "open-flash-chart.swf", "my_chart", "550", "400", "9.0.0", "expressInstall.swf", {"data-file":"ofc-chart.php?crime=Arson"} ); </script> I had an iframe working for the last few months on a site at hostgator. Yesterday, it quit working (403 permissions error). After a long bout of trouble-shooting, I found out that it has something to do with mod_security that they have suddenly enabled (have no idea as I'm not a Linux guy). They told me they fixed the problem on my domain by whitelisting it as an exception, but strangely, even though the permissions error went away, the actual src= box of the iframe, which was the url variable I was passing in the url, no longer loads. So.. I'm trying to break this down into the simplest form to figure it out. I just understand php basics so needing some verification that I'm doing this right/wrong. Here's my code.. page1.php Code: [Select] <? $testurl = "http://google.com"; ?> <a href="http://mysite.blah/page2.php?url=<? echo $testurl; ?>">page2.php</a> page2.php Code: [Select] if (isset($_GET['testurl'])) echo $testurl; else echo "sorry dude"; I am only able to print "sorry dude". Am I doing something wrong or shouldn't this send the url? Thanks for the help! hello all, I'm new here and I'm learning mysql/php. Currently I have a dynamic table on one of my webpages, and the loop code looks like this:while ($i < $numRows) { $fname = mysql_result($result, $i, "fname"); $fcode = mysql_result($result, $i, "fcode"); $ftype = mysql_result($result, $i, "ftype"); $fdesc = mysql_result($result, $i, "fdesc"); ?> <tr> <td><a href="showfunction.php?fname=<?php echo "$fname"; ?>" target="_self"> <?php echo "$fname"; ?></a></td> <td> <?php echo "$fdesc"; ?> </td> <td><div align="center"> <?php echo "$ftype"; ?> </div></td> </tr> <?php $i++; } ?> what I would like to do is pass the ''fname'' variable to the "showfunction" page so it can printed from the database. Here is the relevant portion of the page:<body><div class="codeblock"> <div class="title">Code:<br /> </div><code><pre> <?php echo $fcode; ?> </pre></code></div> <br /><pre><hr /> </pre> I know that doesn't work, and I didn't expect it to because there is no way to 'get' the 'fname' variable from the preceeding script. I do not want to use the GET method with this because from what I understand, you can only use it with Forms. I really don't want to put controls in all of my table fields just to be able to pass the function name to the next page. Does that make sense? If I could get a jumpstart on this one last hurdle, I would appreciate it. thank you so much! Cheers. I'm an hour worth of searches into this. It's 2:30. I just want some nice person to give me the answer. I'm trying to pass a variable using href to another page. It works great if the variable is only one word. But it only passes the first word. There are multiple posts on this topic, but I can't seem to get any of those fixes to work for me. Here the code. Code: [Select] <?php $query = "select DISTINCT city from daily where open_bid>0 order by city ASC"; $result = mysql_query($query); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $details=''; $details.='<li class="menu"><span class="name"><a href=list.php?city='.$row['city'].'>'.$row['city'].'</a>'; $details.='</li>'; echo($details); } ?> As you can imagine, some cities names are made up of two words. This is only passing the first word. Thanks for your help. Trying to set up an error message when someone tries to upload a file without the approved .ext.
