Thanks! Similar TutorialsI need to read all the rows from a text file between two specific lines into an array where I can process them. I then need to do the same thing again until the end of the file. The file is too large to read the entire file into an array. The number of rows that are between the key lines are variable. This is what I have so far to read the first set of rows into the array but it is only reading the first row when in fact in this case there are 15. Any pointers as to where I am going wrong please?

I have a .txt file containing hundreds of lines of Names (e.g. Brad, Jennifer, etc.) What coding can I use to only echo the first 20? Extremely new here and to PHP and I have exhausted my newbie resources and my brain on this one. I'm not experienced processing text files. Can someone help me or point me to a website? One more thing, the subdir "upload" is located at the same level as this php file. This is a sort of "sync" file for reading/writing to a MySQL database. I am able to get it functioning absolutely fine when executed manually via a web browser (and my echo debug lines output the expected information), yet when I run the same PHP file via the command line, it seems to just not be capable of opening any file for reading, so the equivalent variables that are correct when executed on a web browser are blank when echoed through the command line. Is there a different way of handling reading of files when running a php script via the command line, or should it function exactly the same as when run via a browser? For instance:

I am using PHP for web designing. On web server, i want to show the configuration data by reading the ini file. I am creating this ini file from one php code itself. If this php code i run through linux terminal, the file is created with file and group owner as root.(i am having sudo rights on machine) Then if i try to read the ini file from my apache web server, it gives warning as failed to open stream: permission denied. I have tried changing the owner, and permissions to 777 of the file. Still it is not readable.
On the other hand, if i run the php code of ini file creation through web server, ini file is created with file and group owner as apche. and web server is able to read/ write the file.
But i want to create that file from root or some other user and later read/written by apache.
How to give this access permission?

I want the all lines in file1.txt to be inserted in file2.txt starting at "<image>" tag label in file2.txt. c. I would like to overwrite all lines that start with the "<image>" tag in file2.txt with the insert (text in file1.txt contains <image> tag also). file2.txt has lines above and below the insert point <image>. The insert text (file1.txt) could be as many as twenty lines (records) all/each beginning with the<image>tag. By process, I mean read in the data and do simple manipulations + compare each line with a line from another file, that maybe have 50 lines I was just concerned that I might start hogging the CPU and memory of the server trying to process 1000 lines of data It's VERY important that I can do WITHOUT a database I'd only consider a database if it proves that not using will take too much CPU and memory I've only just began considering making the application - can't give full details - as I've got to figure them out myself! After processing, the text is displayed to the user. However, if the user did a Carriage Return (i.e. hit Enter) when they originally entered the text, that text does NOT show on a new line when displayed later. For example, if they type this into the text area... "Hello there (they hit Enter here) How are you (they hit Enter here) Good I hope" It will display like this, all on one line: "Hello there How are you Good I hope" In other words, it doesn't seem to remember that Enter was hit. Is there some way to "preserve" the fact that someone hit the "Enter" key, so that when text is displayed later, it will show the text on a new line if the user in fact hit "Enter" when originally typing it.
