PHP - Ensuring String Contains Letters And Numbers
I'm certain this has been done a hundred times before, but I have been unable to find any information on an efficient way of doing this:
I'm creating a membership system, and the password for new users needs to contains both numbers and letters. How do I go about checking this? The key is not that it contains only numbers and letters, but that it contains both. The password cannot be all letters or all numbers. Know what I mean? Cheers guys and gals. Similar TutorialsHey. I been using a function to check if a string contains only letters which is: ctype_alpha But i would like to change it to allow numbers 0 to 9 and the letters is there a function to do that in PHP i can't find it. Hi Guys
I have a regex conundrum that at first I thought would be very easy but then appears to be quite hard :/
I want to match a string with a regex where the regex can only pass if it contains letters and numbers (nothing else) and it has to contain at least one of each.
I've been trying out lookaheads but just can't get it right.
Any help is appreciated.

Maybe it's a Regex question, but I'm wondering how one would go about generating alphanumeric passwords that do not contain either the letters 'oh' or 'el', or the numbers 1 (one) or 0 (zero)? In other words, the p/w can contain any letters of the alphabet - apart from 'oh' and 'el' - and any digits from 2 to 9 inclusive. The p/w length is not critical - let's say 8 characters. Thanks in advance for your help. I need users to input ONLY numbers or letters with numbers. How can i go about fixing that. Thank you. Can I somehow mix letters with numbers to create an array with range()? e.g. I want my array for postcode ranges such as array('AB1','AB2', 'AB3', 'AB4', 'AB5', 'Ab6', 'AB7', 'AB8', 'IV5', 'IV6', 'IV7', 'IV8', 'IV9', 'IV10'); I know I can do range(1,8); but was wondering if there was something along the lines of range("AB1", "AB8"); This topic has been moved to JavaScript Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=318062.0 This topic has been moved to PHP Regex. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=333172.0 Say I have a string (stored in a variable we'll call $mystring) that could be something like this... "cat / dog / monkey / / / / / / / /" Or this string could also have no real data in it, in which case it would look like... "/ / / / / / / / / /" QUESTION: What is the easiest/most efficient way to run a check on that string to see if there are any non-slash characters in it. In plain english, the check would say, "Are there any letters in this string, or is it only spaces and slashes?" Any ideas? Working through some beginner stuff and ive copied some code straight out the textbook, word for word yet it produces: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ECHO, expecting ',' or ';' in C:\wamp\www\PHP Work\StringtoNumbers.php on line 11 <html> <head> <title>Strings Into Numbers</title> </head> <body> <h1>Strings Into Numbers</h1> <ul> <?php $n = "0x237a"; echo "<li>".$n."</li>" echo "<li>".($n * 3)."</li>"; $n2 = "34re5"; echo "<li>".($n2 + 2)."</li>"; $n3 = "boo"; echo "<li>".($n3 + 2)."</li>"; ?> </ul> </body> </html> %3$s displays a string of text that always begins with a number followed by a colon (from 1-25 only). 1: 2: 3: etc... Is there a way to remove the number and the colon entirely and leave the rest of the string intact? Code: [Select] function wp_rss( $url, $num_items = -1 ) { if ( $rss = fetch_rss( $url ) ) { if ( $num_items !== -1 ) { $rss->items = array_slice( $rss->items, 0, $num_items ); } //start count $i = 1; foreach ( (array) $rss->items as $item ) { printf( '<div title="%2$s"><strong>'.$i.'</strong></div><div>%3$s</div>', esc_url( $item['link'] ), esc_attr( strip_tags( $item['description'] ) ), htmlentities( $item['title'] ) ); //increment $i++; } Ashley I have 2 fields, one for Mother's mobile, the other for Father's mobile. I want to ensure that at least one of the 2 fields contains a number. This is what I have: Code: [Select] <?php if(!isset($_POST['guardian1_mobile']) && !isset($_POST['guardian2_mobile'])) { // no number entered in either field $errors[] = 'You must enter a mobile number in at least one of the Guardian1 or Guardian2 Mobile fields.'; } else { // if Mother mobile if(!is_numeric($_POST['guardian1_mobile']) || strlen(trim($_POST['guardian1_mobile'])) != 7) { // number must be numeric and exactly 7 digits $errors[] = '<strong>Guardian1 mobile</strong>: please enter a 7-digit number without spaces or dashes.'; } else { $_SESSION['guardian1_mobile'] = $_POST['guardian1_mobile']; } // if Father mobile if(!is_numeric($_POST['guardian2_mobile']) || strlen($_POST['guardian2_mobile']) != 7) { $errors[] = '<strong>Guardian2 mobile</strong>: please enter a 7-digit number without spaces or dashes.'; } else { $_SESSION['guardian2_mobile'] = $_POST['guardian2_mobile']; } } However, when I leave both fields blank, errors for the 'else' part of the condition are returned ('Please enter a 7-digit number...'). But it should never get as far as the 'else'.... Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my logic in the first line?... Thanks in advance. Hey all, Another question for you. How does one make it so that the selections (choices) a user selects for dynamic selection boxes remain after the form is posted, which does post back to itself? I've tried JavaScript using the "name" of the selection box as the id but I must be doing something wrong because it's not working..as usual lol. The values in the selection boxes are populated dynamically so I'm not sure how to do this. Thank you. Hi, I need to sort variables in groups of up to 15 and put it in an array.
