I am trying to write some code for my website. I pull information out of a database using a while loop. What am I trying to figure out is how to change some of the information. Some of the information used by the database is not there. It is not there cause I lost it and don't know what to put in place.

The missing information is a Date Field. In the database if the field is blank it displays 0000-00-00. On the page it displays 01-01-1970. What I want to do is when the date is 01-01-1970 it actually shows N/A.

How would I go about doing this?

Well I have a script that executes a scan on a system set to run infinitely, and I need it to echo out a message each time it loops through, but I don't want it to echo out the message with the next loop message below it, and the next one below that etc... I've tried using the flush(); function and been messing around with that with no luck. For security reasons I don't want to release any of the processing code, but here is the basic construction of the script:

So what I want it to do is just delete the scanning message and replace it with the next scan message so while running this script you would see just the number increment on the same line.

Hey folks, I have made a cart.
My output of the cart ( when I receive a mail of the order ) is like this "3,2,4,2" ,, the numbers are the id's of the items,

but instread of the id's of the items, I would like to have the names of the items as an output in mail.php, column in sql table is also 'name'

Hi there, i've had a good look around the forums and on various other sites and can't get my head around a silly little php issue i'm having and was wondering if any of the php guru's on here could possibly provide me with a simple answer/solution please, i've not even been able to get results for what i'm trying to do, as I haven't known the best text to search for this little thing.

I'm retrieving data from mysql and one of the cells that I parse the results for always has either a Y or an N for that field.

I'm having no issues getting it to display the Y or the N correctly. However...

Rather than have it display just an N or a Y, i've been trying to get PHP to make it display either a YES or a NO instead, purely for cosmetic purposes.

The php code i've been working with was part of a pre built script I'm currently customising and this bit of functionality never worked in it:

$result[7] being the field that contains either a y or a n for every result.

Unfortunately, all that my output text does is displays a Yes regardless, even if there is a n in the dbase field.

Could someone please help me, so I can get this to display a YES if the field contains a y and display a NO if the field contains a n

I know this is probably a bit of a nOObie question, but I am learning this stuff still as I go along...

Changing Br To \r\n Without Effecting Email Output

The code below returns the correct results, which are in this case are email addresses.
After each displayed value there is a br eg. emai1@hotmail.com<br>email2@hotmail.com<br>email3@ etc.
So the quesion is, can i change the below codeing to prevent this.
I have tried changing
$message .= "<br>". $row['email']   to
$message .= "\n". $row['email']
but this results in;

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 451 See http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html

so now i changed the line to
$message .= "\r\n". $row['email']
and my email displays perfectly.

The only problem now is that the email addresses and message are all on one line on screen, is there a way to get each of the returned email addresses to sit on a new line, without it bringing back those br br br's in my email output?

I have an array having domain names & i have Coding for checking each element of this $valid array in an API and extract Information from XML.

BUT, looks like the this code is not working or i am possibly not able to integrate this code properely.

Strange Foreach Loop Output

Hi!
This bit of code does exactly what I want it to just not sure why.

The way I would (***_u_me) this code to be written would be to replace the
echo ($array_2[$index]); with echo ($array_2[$value]); to get the output I'm
getting. Basically the foreach loop loops through $array_1 when it finds a key with a null value it outputs the $value or the $index which ever I decide to output of $array_2 which corresponds to that value. when I echo ($array_2[$value]) I get no output and when I echo ($array_2[$index]) I get the wanted output below. It doesn't seem right

I was trying to show different hex codes as background in a loop for each section of a list.

Originally the data comes from ~2-3 database tables, of course. But to ilustrate the point, this is how the main array looks like. This array usually contains anywhere between 10-50 rows, each row containing at least 10 dates, with 10 key/values each. And after setting up all the data, it needs to be processed. Currently this is how a friend of mine did it..

foreach($firstArray as $key => $dates) {
foreach($dates as $date => $values) {
foreach($values as $key => $value) {

//Followed by another ~50-70 lines of processing the 3 loop's data..

Obviously this isn't good practise, but we can't seem to figure out a better way of doing it, since both the data and the loops are horribly nested. This loop and setup of $firstArray is run anywhere between 10-20 times/request, due to amount of users we wish to process. So, the result is that this code can take up to over 2-3 minutes to complete, which isn't really optimal performance. In short my question is, are there any better methods of handling this with the data setup we currently have?

Calculation Displays Correct Answer In Foreach Loop But Not In While Loop. Why?

Below is my output on the browser:

Now where it says course mark above it says 70. This is incorrect as it should be 65 (The average between the module marks percentage should be 65 in the example above) but for some stange reason I can get the answer 65. I have a variable called $courseMark and that does the calculation. Now if the $courseMark is echo outside the where loop, then it will equal 65 but if it is put in while loop where I want the variable to be displayed, then it adds up to 70. Why does it do this.

I think the problem is that it is outputting the answer of the calculation only for the first session mark. How in the while loop can I do it so it doesn't display it for the first mark only but for all the session marks so that it ends up showing the correct answer 65 and not 72?

Hey guys,

Got another question im hoping someone can help me with.

I have a foreach loop (for use in a mysql query):

   foreach ($interests as $interest) {
     $query .= "($id, $interest), ";
   }

problem is i do not want the comma(,) in the last loop.

Is there some kinda of function i can use so it does not insert it on last loop?

Or should i just use a for loop with a nested if loop? something like ;

   for($i=0; $i < count($interests); $i++){
      $query .=
      "($id, '$interests[$i]')";
      if($i + 1 < count($interests)) {
         $query .= ", ";
      }
      }

For Loop & While Loop Working, But Results Are Wrong In Both

I am working to echo the results in a while or for loop... Both of my sample codes work, but the results are wrong!

The while loop ONLY echos a result IF the first record in the postings table matches the id passed (does not display a result unless the first record has a match)

The if loop displays ALL listings with the same name (counts them all) so there are no unique listings!

Good Evening - I am in the process of trying to call back a list of categories and sub categories using a WHILE LOOP inside of a WHILE LOOP. It works on a different part of the site within the admin panel but not here. Here it only calls one sub category and moves on to the next parent category instead of finishing the loop and pulling all sub categories out...

So I have a PHP parent page that is accesses that scans the database for the passed token in the URL and then replaces content on the template page using a loop. My issue is that I am trying to use a loop on the secondary page which causes the white screen of death. From what I can tell the loop inside a loop is causing the issue.
I'll paste the code below, let a newbie know if you have any ideas or can point me in the right direction.
