PHP - How To Check For Duplicate Url Submission
Hola Everybody !!
I'm putting together a web app similar to Digg and was wondering if there is a function or code example I can use to avoid users submitt the same url. For example: Right now the user can submit; 1. http://www.example.com?post01 2. http://example.com?post01 3. www.example.com?post01 I want the web app to check if the link has been submitted by the user first and look for duplicate submission. Any ideas ? Thank you, V. Similar TutorialsHello there Really new by in PHP, I find out your forums and look really professional, so I'm dropping in some questions. Maybe can have some help. I'm setting an old plugin of WP and got some issues. The plugin is really nice and dedicated to create a directory inside a website in WP but regretfully no one take care of that code, so no one to ask for. There are some errors. Example, lets go with the first one. When I (or someone) add a new website in the directory the script does not manage correctly a duplicate submissions. I can submit more times the same url. It is supposed to manage that problem, here is the code that take care of all the errors. Code: [Select] if($title == "" || $url == " " || $url == "http://" || $description == "" || $description == " " || $keyword == "" || $contact_name == "" || $contact_email == "" || !$cat_id) { if($title == "") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please insert the title of the website!' . " - <br />"; if($url == " " || $url == "http://" ) $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please insert the URL of the website!' . " - <br />"; if(!$cat_id) $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please select a category for the website!' . " - <br />"; if($description == " ") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please write the description of the website!' . " - <br />"; if($description == "") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please write the description of the website!' . " - <br />"; if($keyword == "") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please write the keywords of the website!' . " - <br />"; if($contact_name == "") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please insert your name!' . " - <br />"; if($contact_email == "") $error_msg .= "- " . 'Please insert your email address!' . " - <br />"; } else { $link_id = $class_link->GetLinkId($cat_id, $url, $title); if ($link_id != "") { $error_msg .= "- " . 'This link currently exist!' . " - <br /> "; } } It is working fine for all the errors but NOT for the last one... is not working, no message ""This link currently exist"" and no error come out after the submission that go in smoothly. So here is the problem.... but can't solve it. Code: [Select] } else { $link_id = $class_link->GetLinkId($cat_id, $url, $title); if ($link_id != "") { $error_msg .= "- " . 'This link currently exist!' . " - <br /> "; } } Any idea? I want the script to check if something already has been submitted into the database before the submission, I tried it to do it with num_rows, but I'm encountering a problem. Here's the script: $con_submit = $_POST['submit']; $user_id = $_SESSION['user_id']; if ($con_submit && isset($user_id)) { $dbc = mysqli_connect(DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_NAME); // POST variables $knuffix_name = strip_tags(trim($_POST['knuffix_name'])); $knuffix_contribution = $_POST['knuffix_contribution']; $knuffix_category = strip_tags(trim($_POST['sort_category'])); $query = sprintf("SELECT * FROM con WHERE contribution = '%s'", mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, $knuffix_contribution)); $query_run = mysqli_query ($dbc, $query) or die (mysqli_error ($dbc)); $num_rows = mysqli_num_rows ($query_run) or die (mysqli_error ($dbc)); // $assoc = mysqli_fetch_assoc ($query_run) or die (mysqli_error ($dbc)); echo "num rows" . $num_rows; // and then as an example: if ($num_rows == 0) { // run INSERT INTO script } } When there are entries in the database then num_rows will return me the amount of entries in the echo, BUT if there are ZERO entries, then nothing will happen, and that is because of the query. Since the query looks as follows: Code: [Select] SELECT * FROM con WHERE contribution = '$variable_post_submission' Which means if there's no entry in the database at all, then the query has nothing to select, which again makes the rest of the script NOT work. Which means that num_rows does not return any value, the echo will not even get printed out. But I on the other hand would like num_rows to return zero and have the script continue by INSERTING the submitted data into the database. Any ideas how I could accomplish this? Hello, i've got this code, to insert some form data into my db, it checks for a value if it exists already, it won't insert, now i want to add another value to check, but i don't know how. This is my code: Code: [Select] <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])){ if (strlen($_POST['code']) == 12 && substr($_POST['code'],0,6) == '610147'){ $code = $_POST['code']; $select_query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM jupiter WHERE code = '$code'"); if(mysql_num_rows($select_query) == 0){ $remote_addr = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; $secret = $_POST['euro']; mysql_query("INSERT INTO jupiter(code, euro,ip,date, used) VALUES('$code','$secret','$remote_addr',CURDATE(),'n')"); } Print "<font color='green'>OK</font>"; } else { Print "<font color='red'>Error</font>"; } }?> This checks if "code" already exists, now i want to also have it check for "ip" Can someone help me out here please. Thanks ! I'm working on a directory component and have kind of a tricky thing I need to do. The list of results pop through ajax on the left side along with it's google map number tag, and the google map pops on the right side. To make it even trickier the results are popped through a radius search by proximity. The problem is if there are multiple results with the same address you end up having all of the number tags on the map buried under the last tag with that address, plus it makes for kind of a long list. What I need to do is run a check to see if the previous result is the same address, and if yes not pop that result in a new table cell, rather stick it in a jquery drop down div so that all of the following results with the same address are stuffed in the jquery drop down in the same table cell under the first result with that address. In a perfect world all of the listings with the same addresses would be submitted in order so I could just do a check for the previous itemid's address, but of course that's not the case. I thought about running a query to grab ALL of the addresses and then check the item's address against it to see if it matches and if yes echo the jquery div instead of the <td>, but obviously that won't work because that will cause the first item with that address to be put in the div also. Plus I don't know if that's a very efficient way to go about it anyway. Here's kind of the basic thing I'm working with: Code: [Select] $query = "SELECT data_txt FROM jos_sobi2_fields_data WHERE fieldid = 76 AND itemid = $mySobi->id"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ $myaddress = $row['data_txt']; } echo "<td $style>"; Any ideas? Hi, I need help to check multiple rows for many columns, so that the script won't re-insert a duplicate entry. For eg: $isRowExist=mysql_query("SELECT (field1,field2) from table1 WHERE field1='$f1' AND field2='$f2' "); if(mysql_num_rows($isRowExist)==1) print "already in table1!"; else //proceed to insert into table table1 *BUT I tried this and it says mysql_num_rows expects resource, and this warning only shows when I have multipel columns I want to compare (it works just fine with one column in the WHERE clause above) Please help! Hello, i am inserting some form data into my mysql db, i happen to get some duplicates so i want to check first if the entry exists already before i insert. my current code: Code: [Select] <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { ?> <?php if (strlen($_POST['code']) == 19 && substr($_POST['code'],0,7) == '5541258') { mysql_query("INSERT INTO table(code, secret,ip,date) VALUES('$_POST[code]','$_POST[secret]','$_SERVER[REMOTE_ADDR]',CURDATE())"); Print "<font color='green'>The code will be checked now</font>"; } else { Print "<font color='red'>The code is invalid</font>"; } ?><?php } ?> I would like to use the value 'code' to check if the entry exists, that one is unique for each entry. How would i do that ? Thanks ! Hello, I have looked on the forum, but haven't found the answer to this. I have a basic [name, email, phone, event] web form and want to make sure there person is not submitting twice by doing duplicate check of the mail. I looked at other solutions that suggested setting up unique IDs for each user, but it would be possible for a user to sign up for more then one event. Any info would be helpful. Not a newbie, but not an expert. Hello, I like to send and reading variable with post and get. Is it possible? I have do that but that doesn't work Code: [Select] <form id="test" action="test.php" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="a_recup" value="variable_ici"/> </form> <a href='test.php?town=Montreal' onclick='document.getElementById("test").submit()'>link</a> <a href='test.php?town=New_York' onclick='document.getElementById("test").submit()'>Link1</a> <?php $variable=$_POST['a_recup']; echo $variable; $ville=$_GET['town']; echo $town; ?> Thanks for your help

I am reading through some old code, and I was using some pretty convoluted programming to get everything (e.g. error and success messages after form submittal) to work. Basically what I would do was... Code: [Select] HTML to Open Page PHP to Handle Form If Data Okay... Success Message (e.g. "Your account was created!") HTML to close out Page If Data Invalid... Failure Message (e.g. "A System Error occurred. Please contact the Administrator.") HTML to close out Page HTML Form HTML to Close Page I have heard that you should always put your PHP first in the script and then follow it up with your HTML Page and Form. But where should you go once the form is submitted? My second attempt at things - to fix the mess above - was to REDIRECT the user to a "Handling Page" which basically was a large case statement that would read a "processing code" and display the right message. But that seems kind of hokey too?! Can someone help me come up with a more professional and scalable solution?? Thanks, Debbie I'm trying to figure out where my problem is. Its not submitting my form. I'm getting the alert but when it submits it does the url?variables=whatever deal. I am trying to process a simple registration form:- Code: [Select] <form method="POST" action="regproc.php"> <p>Choose a username:<br /><input name="nick" type="text" /></p> <p>Choose a password:<br /><input name="pwd" type="password" /></p> <p>Re-type password:<br /><input name="pwd2" type="password" /></p> <p>Sex:<br /><input name="sex" type="text" /></p> <p>Email address:<br /><input name="email" type="text" /></p> <p><input name="submit" type="button" value="Hit me NOW!" /></p> </form> but it does not call the relevant processing file "regproc.php" when the submit button is hit. I can't figure out just why this is and would appreciate any ideas. I know that the solution is probably very simple and staring me in the face if only I could see it... HI All - Hoping you can help me out here with an issue that's preventing me from posting a form. I am still stumbling my way through this. I have a form that submits to itself with php code that uses a $curlhandle to post to a remote server, return xml data and parse it. The submission to the remote server works perfectly and the data returned is fine. The problem I am having is that when the form page initially loads in the browser, it thinks the form is already trying to submit, and it returns an error message for the first blank field. The error message is from the remote site. There is no database involved with this and the information does not need to be saved, just displayed on the same page the form resides on. So, is there a way I can load the page with the form without getting the error message from the remote site? Okay, so I have a neat little website and I'm having some issue with some quality-of-life improvements.
Namely, the user clicks a button which starts a server-side operation that can take up to 20 to 30 seconds.
I want a little message to appear below the button that says, "Operation started. This may take upwards of 20 to 30 seconds depending on traffic."
As of now, I have the typical
<form action="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];?>"> ... <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Make PDF" /> </form> <?php if (isset($_POST["submit"])) { ... } ?>The only problem is, part of my PHP code must communicate with a Java server that I have running on the server itself. So how the site works is, there's the computer I'm renting out and it's running Apache and a custom Java server I wrote myself. Apache handles the web request and upon form submission, PHP opens a socket with the Java server and begins the task. PHP then waits for the connection to close. i have an html page with 3 fields "name, email, message" this goes to done.php done.php process the data and saves "name, email, message,ip" to an .txt file on the server,(IIS6 server 2003)how can i redirect to another page if that IP submitted already?Because i have some "friends" who refreshes the page and i get allot of empty fields hope you understand. |
