PHP - Problem Connecting To Mysql Db Using Included Connect File
So, I feel like I am running up against some beginner's problem. So I am hoping this should be an easy fix. I have had a bit of trouble finding the right search terms to find a fix for this, so I am sorry ahead of time if there is already a post on this, please point me towards it.
I am running PHP 4.4.9 and MySQL client API 4.1.22, in case that is of use. I can get the following to work and provide the appropriate output. I think I got past the method calling the connection info not being able to see it, but now it isn't returning anything - should be returning "<p>" . $row[content_element_title] . I've created an API for deploying gig information in either XML or JSON format. It works fine as it is, both formats of output giving me what I want. When I take out the mySQL login information and replace it with "include 'connect_include.php';" (where the file connect_include.php contains the exact login code that I replced). The JSON output works fine but the XML output doesn't run. What could be causing this?? Obviously, the 'connect' works ok as the JSON version runs fine. Hi, I have just started using PHP again after a long break and am very rusty. I am having a few problems with some basic things: I have defined a function to connect to my MySQL database and it doesn't work. My $hostname, $username, $password variables are stored in a separate php file which I am including first and the standard mysql_connect function works ok, but I wanted to put it inside another user defined function called "condb" to make things quicker later. my function looks like this: function condb(){ mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password) OR DIE ('Unable to connect to database! Lets imagine that we want to for example auto_prepend file to each file on our server that would write out the name of file its being executed. I know, i can use PHP_SELF but what if i want to write name of file which is already included? I have a web page and i want on it show its name even if it was included, but not the included page itself is showing name but auto_prepend file to each php file, its duty of this auto_prepend_file to write it out i dont want myself to echo it on each page? do you feel me? The first script would kick up an error that there is a problem with file include_file.php as line 3 or what ever the line may be. How can I have it so I can choose what the error message is, say a cryptic code and the line number without having the file names show as this is showing up my hidden includes folder and the file name which means that someone may try to visit this page alone and this can cause security issues. I can't get the reg. form handler to recognize the $conn variable from the config.php file. if I add require '../../config/config.php'; to it I get this error:
Warning: require(../../config/config.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /opt/lampp/htdocs/qcicnews/includes/form_handlers/register.php on line 3 I don't know why it can't find that file, but the way I understand PHP is that I don't need that line because it's in the register.php. When I don't use it I get a party of errors all connected to it not recognizing the $conn variable:
Notice: Undefined variable: conn in /opt/lampp/htdocs/qcicnews/includes/form_handlers/register.php on line 43
There's about 6 more that look like the ones above but from different lines where $conn is referenced, I just deleted them for brevity sake. I'm pretty new to PHP and this is the most difficult situation I've encountered so far, can someone help me find the way here?
