PHP - Mailing List From Database Results
Hi
I have been given a task to create some SQL reports. One of the reports is to display all the customers who have purchased a certain product based on user selection and then have those results able to be extracted to a mailing list. So ive got the report done. Some drop down boxes allow a user to select a product and once submitted the results are then displayed. But i dont even know where to begin with extracting those results to a mailing list. Could someone help me please? What method should I use? and where do i begin? BTW im a rookie with PHP/Mysql ive just got my first job since leaving university and this is a task ive been given at work so any quick and helpful replies are greatly appreciated Thanks in advance. Similar TutorialsI have email's in mysql... how do i automatically send emails every week. I know how to send mail with php. How do i automatically send it every week? Hello, I know very little about PHP, i am a graphics and HTML guy , i had a simple mailing list script up on a clients page for a couple years, and now all of a sudden it has stopped working. When you enter your name, and email, you get "select fails" and it does not get added to the database. Here is the code, any help would be great, i am lost since nothign has changed, but it just stoppped working. from the config.php file Code: [Select] function insert_mail() { $fname = $_POST['fname']; $lname = $_POST['lname']; $email = $_POST['email']; $sql2="select * from mail where email='$email'"; $result2=mysql_query($sql2) or die("select fails"); $no=mysql_num_rows($result2); if ($no==0) { $sql = "insert into mail(id,fname, lname, email) values(NULL,'$fname','$lname','$email')"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die("insert fails"); echo "Email added to list: " . LISTNAME; } else { echo "Email Address Already Exists in List: " . LISTNAME; } } function delete_mail() { $email = $_POST['email']; if ($email == "") { $email = $_GET['email']; } $sql2="select * from mail where email='$email'"; $result2=mysql_query($sql2) or die("select fails"); $no=mysql_num_rows($result2); if ($no==0) { echo "Your email was not found in the list: " . LISTNAME; } else { echo "Your email was unsubscribed from the list: " . LISTNAME; } $sql2="delete from mail where email='$email'"; $result2=mysql_query($sql2) or die("unsubscribe failed, please try again"); } ?> From the HTML Code: [Select] <center> <form action='<? echo BASEHREF; ?>index.php' method=post> <TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=center> <TR> <TD><b>first name</b></TD> <TD><INPUT TYPE=text name=fname></TD> </TR> <TR> <TD><b>last name</b></TD> <TD><INPUT TYPE=text name=lname></TD> </TR> <TR> <TD><b>email</b></tD> <TD><INPUT TYPE=text name=email></td> </tR> <TR> <TD colspan=2 align=center><INPUT TYPE=submit value=join> <INPUT TYPE=reset value=reset><BR></TD> </tR> </TABLE> </FORM> </center> Let me know what else you may need.... I have a mail list script, problem is if I have to many mails sent at one time my website will be suspended. What should I do? Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I've got a My_SQL database containing articles, a summary for the article and a date. I have a basic CMS system set-up, but I want to create a script that when users sign up to a mail list it forwards the summary and dates of the articles database. If that makes sense? But I only want it to forward the most recent 5 rows. I'm pretty new to PHP and I've been mostly following tutorials thus far, but this is quite specific. Thanks in advance! <?php //Database Credentials include "../db_fns.php"; session_start(); //Database connection $conn = db_connect_2(); if (isset($_SESSION['link']) AND !isset($_POST['Submit'])){ //retrieve link if(is_string($_SESSION['link'])){ $link = unserialize($_SESSION['link']); } else { $link = $_SESSION['link']; } if($link){ //basic stuff $_SESSION['transgene_type'] = (string)$link->tt_id; $_SESSION['promoter_locus'] = $link->promoter; $_SESSION['PromoLocusSynonyms'] = $link->pl_synonyms; $_SESSION['species'] = (string)$link->s_id; //genetic background //clear it just incase there are values since another time $_SESSION['genetic_bg'] = array(); $_SESSION['GeneticBGOtherTxt'] = ""; foreach($link->genetic_bg as $gbg){ //we check if it is a menu selected item or an item that is not in menu if((int)$gbg['GBG_IS_MENU']){ $_SESSION['genetic_bg'][] = $gbg['GBG_ID']; } else { //belongs in other if(empty($_SESSION['GeneticBGOtherTxt'])) { $_SESSION['GeneticBGOtherTxt'] .= $gbg['GBG_NAME']; } else { $_SESSION['GeneticBGOtherTxt'] .= ",".$gbg['GBG_NAME']; } } } $_POST = $_SESSION; }elseif (isset($_POST['Submit'])) { if(isset($_SESSION['link'])) { //we need to unserialize the link if(is_string($_SESSION['link'])){ $link = unserialize($_SESSION['link']); //unserialize() takes a single variable and converts it back into a php value } else { $link = $_SESSION['link']; } } //put $_POST variables into $_SESSION $_SESSION = $_POST + $_SESSION; unset($_SESSION['Submit']); // CHECK FOR ERRORS AFTER SUBMISSION $errors = array(); // Set array if (!$_POST['promoter_locus']) $errors[] = "Please specify a value for \"Promoter or Locus\"".$PromoLocus; if (!$_POST['transgene_type']) $errors[] = "Please specify a value for \"Transgene Type\""; if (!$_POST['inducible_systems'] && !$_POST['InducibleSystemsOther']) $errors[] = "Please specify an \"Inducibility\" value"; } if (count($errors) > 0 ) { $iferrors = "Yes"; } else { [SIZE="4"][B][U] include ('mailing_list.php'); checkPromoter($_POST['promoter_locus'];[/U][/B][/SIZE] //this is to check that step one has been completed once we go to step 2 $_SESSION['step'] = 2; header("Location: StepTwo_2.php"); exit; } } } else { session_trash_(); session_regenerate_id(true); } Note that this script is an excerpt and I make the lines that I put to be bold and underlined. This is the mailing_list.php <?php require('connection.php'); function checkPromoter ($_POST['promoter_locus']) { $check = "select id from mailing_list where query = '$_POST['promoter_locus']'"; $result = mysqli_query($connect, $check) or die(mysqli_error($connect)); if (mysqli_num_rows($result)==0){ continue; } else { $sql = "select email from mailing_list where query = '$_POST['promoter_locus']'"; $query = $_POST['promoter_locus']; $email = mysqli_query($connect, $sql) or die(mysqli_erro($connect)); $to = $email; $subject = "The query is updated"; $headers = "From: asdfasdf"; $body = " Hello This is to inform you that $query is updated, please go to this link to search for it: http://asdfasdf Regards, asdfasdf."; mail($to, $subject, $body, $headers); die(); } } So my questions are 1. Where should I place those bold lines in addEntry.php? I tried to run it but the result is a blank page... Also there's no email sending through to my test email 2. For the line function checkPromoter ($_POST['promoter_locus']), should I put variable like $promoter = $_POST['promoter_locus'] ? Cuz I ran that and the error is Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[', expecting ')' 3. Can u guys please help me fix up mailing_list.php? thanks for ur patience to read thru this and ANY HELP IS APPCRECIATED :p Hi, I am new to this forum and hopefully u guys can help me solve the problem i have in this first post! So please take a look at this html script <html> <head> <title>Sub/Unsub</title> </head> <body> <h1> Subscribe or unsubscribe mailing list</h1> <form method=POST action="manage.php"> <p><b>Your E-mail address:</b></br> <input type=text name="email" size=40 maxlength=150> <p><b>Action:</b></p> <input type=radio name="action" value="sub" checked>Subscrbie <input type=radio name="action" value="unsub">Unsubscribe <p><input type=submit name="submit" value="Submit form"></p> </form> </body> </html> And this is the manage.php script: <?php //set up a couple of functions include('connect.php'); function emailChecker($email){ global $connect, $check_result; //check mail is not already in list $check = "select id from users where email = '$email'"; $check_result = mysqli_query($connect, $check) or die(mysqli_error($connect)); } if ( ($_POST[action] == 'sub')){ //Try to subscribe, so validate email if($_POST[email]=""){ hearder("Location: manage_start.php"); exit(); } //connect to database db(); //check if email is on the list emailChecker($_POST[email]); //check the number of results to look for duplicates if (mysqli_num_rows($check_result)<1){ //since no records detected, so add this new email $sql="INSERT into users (email) values('$_POST[email]')"; $result = mysqli_query($connect, $sql) or die(mysqli_error($connect)); echo "<p>Thanks for signing up man!!</p>"; } else { //print failure message echo "<p>You have already subscribed!</p>"; } } else if (($_POST[action] == "unsub")){ //trying to unsubscribe and validate address if ($_POST[email] == "") { header ("Location: manage_start.html"); exit(); } db(); emailChecker($_POST[email]); if (mysqli_num_rows($check_result) <1) { //print failure message echo "<p>Cannot find your address!</p> <p>No action is taken</p>"; } else { //unsubscribe address $id = mysqli_real_escape_string($connect, $_POST['id']); $sql = "DELETE from users where id = '$id'"; $result = mysqli_query($connect, $sql) or die(mysqli_error()); echo "<p>You have unsubscribed!</p>"; } } ?> So wut i am trying to do in this script is to create a mailing list form for user to subscribe/unsubscribe using email address. When i first run the html script (which includes php script) and subscribe by the first time, it went perfectly fine and it echos "thanks for signing up man!!" but when i try it with the totally DIFFERENT email address, it always says "You have already subscribed!!" Even when i put blank on the address box, it still shows "You have already subscribed!!" Also it's the same deal as unsubscribe, first time i could delete an entry from my database completely, but afterward when i try to delete the exact email addresses from database, it wouldn't work !! It just says "You have unsubscribed!" but when i checked back if the entry has been deleted, the answer is NO ! I am wondering if this is the problem about $global values under function emailChecker( ). Btw my database connection works absolutely fine. I know this is a long ass post but i need an urgent answer PLZZZZZZZZ Been using a function I found here a while back for listing categories and sub categories and it works perfect. Code: [Select] function listSubcats ($parent, $level=0){ global $abc; $sql = "SELECT id, title FROM Cat WHERE parent = $parent"; $res = mysqli_query($abc, $sql); while (list($id, $title) = $res->fetch_row()) { $indent = str_repeat('-', $level); echo "<OPTION value='$id'>$indent $title</OPTION>\n"; listSubcats ($id, $level+1); // list its subcats } } But this is the first time I need change the way the results are displayed. And that leads me to realizing I am a bit confused on how list really works. The mysql table has the typical ID, CatName, parent I need to have each Cat with all subcats related to it listed in its own div. But whatever I try I cannot get the placements of the opening and closing divs in the right spots. So can anyone tell if its even possible to do it with this function. I did work it out using multiple queries but then read on alot of forums that queries inside while statements is not good. Just looking for he best (Correct) way of geting the results laid out properly. like this Code: [Select] <div class="one-third column"> Cat1 </div> <div class="one-third column"> Cat 2 </div> <div class="one-third column"> Cat 3 - Subcat 1 - Subcat 2 -- Sub Subcat 1 </div> <div class="one-third column"> Cat 4 </div> Hope that makes sense... Thanks for any guidance. I would like assistance in displaying a company name in my web search results.
Below is my code:
<html> <head></head> <body> <?php if (!isset($_POST['q'])) { ?> <img src="/wvb-logo-slogen.png" border="0" /> <h2>Search</h2> <form method="post" action="<?php echo htmlentities($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); ?>"> <input type="text" name="q" size="30" /> </form> <?php } else { ?> <img src="/wvb-logo-slogen.png" border="0" /> <h2>Search Results</h2> <?php try { // create object // $swish = new Swish('/usr/local/apache/htdocs/swish/index.swish-e'); $swish = new Swish('/var/www/html/pdf2/index.swish-e'); // get and run query from command-line $queryStr = htmlentities($_POST['q']); $result = $swish->query($queryStr); ?> Found <?php echo $result->hits; ?> match(es) for '<?php echo $queryStr; ?>'. <?php // iterate over result set // print details for each match while($r = $result->nextResult()) { ?> <p> <?php echo $r->swishreccount; ?> <strong> <a href="<?php echo '/pdf2', ltrim($r->swishdocpath, '.') ; ?>"> <?php echo $r->swishdocpath; ?> </a> </strong> (sco <?php echo $r->swishrank; ?>) <br/> <?php echo $r->swishdocpath; ?><br /> <?php //Split a filename by . $filenames = explode(".", $r->swishdocpath); //get 3 chars from $filenames to $country $country = substr($filenames[1],1,3); echo 'Country name: '.$country."<br />"; //$filenames[2] = explode(".", $r->swishdocpath); $year = substr($filenames[2],0,4); echo 'Year: '.$year; //$filenames = explode(".", $r->swishdocpath); $wvbnumber = substr($filenames[1],1,12); echo 'WVB Number: '.$wvbnumber; ?> </p> <?php } } catch (Exception $e) { die('ERROR: ' . $e->getMessage()); } } ?> </body> </html>As you can see I am able now display the WVB number, country name and year. But my question to anyone is how would I display the company name that it corresponds to? The names of the company are located in a .csv file called active_colist.csv and it is under the /var/www/html directory. This is what my /var/www/html directory looks like: [root@zeus wvbadmin]# cd /var/www/html [root@zeus html]# ls -l total 2140 -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 2110323 May 14 23:39 active_colist.csv -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 6678 Apr 30 13:25 favicon.ico -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 17256 May 5 16:02 h1 -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 113 Apr 29 16:45 hello.php -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 19 Apr 24 23:53 info.php drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 12288 May 12 15:30 pdf2 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 20 May 5 15:46 pdf3 -> /home/wvbadmin/pdf3/ -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1227 May 6 16:33 pdfsearch2.php -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1204 May 6 15:13 pdfsearch3.php -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1625 May 19 23:27 pdfsearch.php -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1838 Apr 30 13:10 search.php -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 10077 May 12 11:38 wvb-logo-slogen.png What is in the .csv file is the first 12 characters that correspond to the company name. What PHP code would I use to grab the first 12 characters of search results match them up with what is in the .csv file and display the proper company name? This is what is inside of the .csv file: WVB_NUMBER,PRIMARY_SHORT_COMPANY_NAME,CURR_ISO_CNTRY_OF_INCORP "AIA000030001","THE NATIONAL BANK OF ANGUILLA","AIA" "AIA000030003","ANGUILLA ELECTRICITY COMPANY","AIA" "AIA000030005","KMT-HANSA","AIA" "ALB000040001","BURSE E TIRANES","ALB" "ANT000020000","RORENTO","ANT" "ANT000030001","INTRUM JUSTITIA","SWE" "ANT000030002","ORTHOFIX INTERNATIONAL","ANT" "ANT000030004","HAL TRUST","ANT" "ARE000030001","MASHREQBANK","ARE" "ARE000030002","COMMERCIAL BANK OF DUBAI","ARE" Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I made a index with all the months and when you click on a month you will get a full list of the type and quantity of aircraft that has been deliverd. I have two problems and I can't figure it out. The first problem I have, is that I want to show the visitors which airline has bougt which type of aircraft and how many. The second problem I have is a want to show them the total amount of deliveries, not just per type of aircraft, but a total number. Here are some shots of my problem and what I have: This is how my MYSQL-database lookes like. The columns I have a id, day, month, year, airline, aircraft, amount (just a simple translation of the Dutch words ). As you can see, there are some airlines that received one type of aircraft two times (TUI Travel PLC has received 2x Boeing 737-800). Keep this in mind, I will get back to this. This is the table on my website. The first column shows the type of aircraft. The secon column shows us how many of that type has been deliverd. In the last column I want to have all the airlines that has received that type of aircraft. As I mentioned above, TUI Travel PLC has received 2x B737-800, so in the row of B737-800 I want to have TUI Travel PLC (2x). If the airline received more then 1 aircraft, I would like to have (.....x) (and the amount on the dots --> TUI example: 2 aircraft, so 2x). So you will get TUI Travel PLC (2x). This is the code I have so far (sorry I am a real noobie in PHP/MYSQL so my programming ain't that great ) Code: [Select] <?php mysql_connect(".....", ".....", ".....") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db(".....") or die(mysql_error()); $maand = $_GET['maand']; $jaar = $_GET['jaar']; $query = "SELECT aircraft, jaar, maatschappij, COUNT(maatschappij) FROM deliveries_orders_boeing WHERE maand = '$maand' AND jaar = '$jaar' GROUP BY aircraft"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); // Print out result echo "<br /><h3>Boeing deliveries ".$maand." ".$jaar."</h3><br /> <table border='0' width='700'>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ echo "<tr><td id='aircraft'>". $row['aircraft']. "</td><td id='aantal'>". $row['COUNT(maatschappij)'] ."</td><td id='maatschappijen'>different companies</td></tr>"; } echo "<tr><td id='totaal'>Totaal</td><td id='totaal_aantal'>....</td><td></td></tr></table>"; ?> </td> </tr> </table> Maybe a little confusing, but I hope someone can help me with this. Kind regards, Flyboeing Hi. I will try and explain simply.
I have a list of item codes eg.
size1 Acolor1
size1 Bcolor3
size1 Bcolor1
size1 Acolor3
size1 Acolor4
size2 Acolor1
size3 Bcolor1
size3 Bcolor2
size3 Bcolor2
size3 Acolor1
I want to take these and split them into parts:
size1 Acolor2
size1 Bcolor3
etc.
Then I want to create a form with 2 dropdowns. The first option would just have all unique sizes so:
size1
size2
size3
Then when one is selected, option 2 would show the colours available in that size.
Is there a standard way of doing this? Can I use PHP to create the array and then jquery to display and hide the options?
I'm totally stuck and i'm not just looking for somebody to code it all for me. any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Sam
Lets start out by saying I'm a nube to sql/php things so I am learning as I go. I try to read all that I can before I post, and only post when I cant figure it out on my own. That being said. What I want to do in simplest terms is be able to assign a variable to each item in an sql table. So say I have an mysql table that has ID, username, fontcolor. I want to be able to pull those out so say.... while($row = mysql_fetch_array($users)) { $username[$i] = $row[username]; $fontcolor[$i] = $row[fontcolor]; } Then on the page I can just call to $username[1] type thing. I have tried mixing this several different ways with for and while and I keep getting errors on the page. I realize the code isn't showing everything but its just there to show you the idea of what I'm trying to do. I just want it to generate a list(array) that will make it easier for me to call back just the items I need on parts of the page with out having to have extra coding everywhere. Thanks in advance. Jim Hi I have got results being displayed after clicking the search button in a form on my home page but it brings up all the results which is ok but how do I get onlt the results a user searches for for example a location or property type etc as its for a property website The coding is below for the results page Also sorry how do I add a background image to the php page, I tried using css but wouldn't work Code: [Select] <style type="text/css"> body {background-image:url('images/greybgone.png');} </style> <?php mysql_connect ("2up2downhomes.com.mysql", "2up2downhomes_c","mD8GsJKQ") or die (mysql_error()); mysql_select_db ("2up2downhomes_c"); echo $_POST['term']; $sql = mysql_query("select * from properties where typeProperty like '%$term%' or location like '%$term%'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){ echo 'Type of Property: '.$row['typeProperty']; echo '<br/> Number of Bedrooms: '.$row['bedrooms']; echo '<br/> Number of Bathrooms: '.$row['bathrooms']; echo '<br/> Garden: '.$row['garden']; echo '<br/> Description: '.$row['description']; echo '<br/> Price: '.$row['price']; echo '<br/> Location: '.$row['location']; echo '<br/> Image: '.$row['image']; echo '<br/><br/>'; } ?> I've been trying to fix this piece of script so i can query the results from a database. What i want to do is to display the results from the database like below: Product Heading price Subproduct - $price Each item would have a check box next to them. I have managed to display the items but not the prices. I've looked over the code several times but i'm lost on what i should do. Anyway here's the code, i hope someone here can view it and let me know what i'm doing wrong or what i'm not doing. <?php $get_cats = "SELECT * FROM sub_service WHERE industry='$industry'"; $run_get = mysql_query($get_cats) or die(mysql_error()); $tmp = array(); $x=1; while($rw = mysql_fetch_assoc($run_get)){ if (!array_key_exists($rw['service'],$tmp)) { $tmp[$rw['service']] = array(); } $tmp[$rw['service']][] = $rw['sub_service']; } foreach ($tmp as $service => $items) { ?> <div id="industry_wrapper"> <h2><?php echo $service ?></h2> </div> <div id="select_all_holder"> <div id="select_all_input"> <input type="checkbox" class="toggleElement" name="toggle" onchange="toggleStatus()" /> </div> <div id="select_all_txt"> <p>Select All Services - $</p> </div> </div> <?php echo' <div class="service_holder"> <table width="650" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5"> '; foreach ($items as $cat) { ?> <tr> <td width="28" align="center"><input type="checkbox" /></td> <td width="605"><p><?php echo $cat ?> - $<?php echo $tmp['price']; ?></p></td> </tr> <?php } echo'</table></div>'; } ?> This topic has been moved to MySQL Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=321088.0 Hey there, I have never really done pagination before and I was wondering if anyone can take a look at my code and help me with coding pagination?
