PHP - Writing Ftp Web Interface For In House Ftp Server
Hello there,
I didn't know where to post this topic. However, I'm curious to know if it's possible to add FTP web interface to our website for clients to login to and access our FTP Server we've setup on our server here at the office? Basically, we want to add a link to our homepage: www.slarc.com that will jump to a login screen and have a web interface where clients can download and upload files to that server? How might I go about this? Is there a script already written, all I found on google was software and remote FTP servers. We want to use our own. Thanks, Lorne Similar TutorialsThis isn't exactly an application design question, but rather a system design one.
I am about to install an Inventory Control System inside this store I work in.
The store itself also owns a Linode VPS running Centos 6.4 which hosts our website.
This new Inventory System will come built in with a Microsoft SQL Server, and supposedly it is a SQL Anywhere database, but I'm not too sure what that means.
I need to make this database publicly accessible, but only via the Linode VPS. Surely, setting restrictions is easy enough to address that issue. That isn't my question.
My first idea is to put this server into the DMZ, easy. But it doesn't exactly sound safe. So my next idea was to put a middleman server in the DMZ, this way the Linode can send queries to that middleman server and it will send that data to the SQL Server and back. This is very vaguely described I know, but I don't want to get too much into details, but rather, understand how I can create that middleman server, and what could Install onto it that would allow me to securely process queries?
My first thought was to install a webservice, that accepts an XML/JSON request and returns an XML/JSON response.
Then, I realized directly afterwards that I don't have any experience setting up a webservice like that.
What kind of options are there out there? Ultimately, my question is, should I just put the Server in the DMZ or should I create the middleman, and if so, can someone point me in the right direction as to getting a webservice set up? Just an idea will be appreciated. thanks watsmyname I am in the process of making a promising company that is the first of it's kind in it's respective market and require an in-house programmer.
PM me for further details.

Hello I am having problems uploading an image through a HTML form. I want the image to be uploaded to the server and the image name to be written to the mysql database. Below is the code I am using: Code: [Select] <?php if (isset($_POST['add'])){ echo "<br /> add value is true"; $name = $_POST['name']; $description = $_POST['description']; $price = $_POST['price']; $category_id = $_POST['category_name']; $image = $_FILES['image']['name']; //file path of the image upload $filepath = "../images/"; //mew name for the image upload $newimagename = $name; //new width for the image $newwidth = 100; //new height for the image $newheight = 100; include('../includes/image-upload.php'); mysql_query("INSERT INTO item (item_name, item_description, item_price, item_image) VALUES ('$name','$description','$price','$image')"); ?> Here is the image-upload.php file code: Code: [Select] <?php //assigns the file to the image $image =$_FILES["image"]["name"]; $uploadedfile =$_FILES["image"]["tmp_name"]; if ($image) { //retrieves the extension type from image upload $extension = getextension($image); //converts extension to lowercase $extension = strtolower($extension); //create image from uploaded file type if($extension=="jpg" || $extension=="jpeg") { $uploadedfile = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name']; $src = imagecreatefromjpeg($uploadedfile); }else if($extension=="png") { $uploadedfile = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name']; $src = imagecreatefrompng($uploadedfile); }else{ $src = imagecreatefromgif($uploadedfile); } //creates a list of the width and height of the image list($width,$height)=getimagesize($uploadedfile); //adds color to the image $tmp = imagecreatetruecolor($newwidth,$newheight); //create image imagecopyresampled($tmp,$src,0,0,0,0,$newwidth,$newheight,$width,$height); //set file name $filename = $filepath.$newimagename.".".$extension; $imagename = $newimagename.".".$extension; //uploads new file with name to the chosen directory imagejpeg($tmp,$filename,100); //empty variables imagedestroy($src); imagedestroy($tmp); } ?> Any help would be appreciated, fairly new to all this! Thanks!!! I am just starting out with PHP. I have resorted to doing some custom PHP programming because the plug-INs for a CMS I am using need a little customization. The question I have is very simple and I am sure PHP programmers can answer this instantly. I have successfully declared a global PHP variable. All I need to know how to do for now is how to declare a button or a hyperlink or an input form element such that it can change the assignment of this variable. I built an application for a client of mine using PHPRunner about 3 years ago. It has functioned perfectly right up to today when they notified me that they were unable to Export any records. I have attached the error report that comes up when you run Export function. According to the report it is unable to find a file or path. I have been on to server with FTP client and all the paths, files and contents are present. Can anyone please give me any advise on what might suddenly cause this error after many years. All other functionality of the Database is fine. Many thanks, Carl. Edited August 1, 2019 by wscwt01 Spelling error Hello, I use loads of different servers at work and they all run seperate services that I need to keep my stuff running. I want to build a simple webpage that will poll the services and display the current state by colour. EG have table that lists the services in green and have them turn red if the service stops unexpectedly. I can build the tables and stuff, I just don't know how to retrieve the state of a service. I've been messing about with some ideas but nothing is working. eg lets say I have two servers each with one service: service one | IP Address of server | RUNNING service two | IP Address of server | STOPPED Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks!! Hello guys, hope all of you are doing good. I want to ask a quick question . I have developed this track and trace application (php script) through which users can trace their shipment by entering a bill of lading number in the track and trace interface on our website and then the information stored in our database is displayed to them. Currently, what I do to add new or change the status of existing bill of lading numbers is that first I have to log in to the cPanel of my website, then I need to log in to phpmyadmin and then I can add new bill of lading numbers or change the number of existing bill of lading numbers. This is a pretty long way and I don't want to give the cPanel password to other employees so that they can do the job of entering bill of lading numbers. So I was thinking that can an interface be created through which any employee can add new or change the status etc. of the bill of lading numbers stored in the database without actually logging in to phpmyadmin? The interface would obviously be connected to the database and any new bill of lading number entered through the interface should automatically be stored in the database. And on the other hand, the bill of lading numbers which are already stored in the database, they can also be edited through this interface. Please let me know if such an interface can be created. And if yes, is there any tutorial on how this can be done? Thanks. I've been searching high and low for some decent (actually, they can be crap, just be REAL) real-world examples of uses of abstract classes and interfaces. I've seen many design patterns, and I get the concept, but now I need to put them into practice. And I gotta say, I'm absolutely sick of class Animal, class Dog extends Animal, class Vehicle, class Van extends Vehicle examples. Those are CRAP for illustrating real uses of the functionality given to us by OOP. It's one thing to teach a concept, and it's another to put into use within a real application. I can only find the former and the not the latter. Does anyone have any links to, or can they post their own examples of, abstract classes and interfaces in use? I'm trying to add some data into my database through a form interface, but this form submits even when the page loads. This means the form submits regardless of the validation I have set in place, so every time the page is loaded, the database receives empty fields. Could you guys please help me with my problem? Here's my code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">; <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">; <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Form to add quotes</title> </head> <body> <?php //defining variables $genre = ""; $error_quote=""; $error_author=""; $error_date=""; $error_url=""; $error_genre=""; $quote = ""; $author=""; $q_date=""; $url=""; $output_form = true; if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { $output_form = true; if (trim($quote)=='' OR strlen(trim($quote)) < 2 OR strlen(trim($quote)) > 16) { $error_quote="Please enter a <b>Quote</b> between 2 to 16 characters long <br/>"; } if(trim($author)=='' OR strlen(trim($author)) < 2 OR strlen(trim($author)) > 16) { $error_author="Please enter an <b>Author</b> between 2 to 16 characters long <br/>"; } if(trim($q_date)=='' OR strlen(trim($q_date)) < 2 OR strlen(trim($q_date)) > 24) { $error_date="Please enter a <b>Date</b> between 2 to 24 characters long <br/>"; } if(trim($url)=='' OR strlen(trim($url)) < 2 OR strlen(trim($url)) > 246) { $error_url="Please enter a <b>URL</b> between 2 to 246 characters long <br/>"; } if(!isset($genre) OR $genre=='') { $error_genre=" - Please select a <b>Genre</b>. <br/>"; } } else { $output_form = false; } if ($output_form) { ?> <form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>"> <table> <tr><td>Quote</td><td><input type="text" name="quote" value="<?php if (isset($quote)) echo $quote ; ?>"></td><td><?php echo $error_quote;?></td></tr> <tr><td>Author</td><td><input type="text" name="author" value="<?php if (isset($author)) echo $author ; ?>"></td><td><?php echo $error_author;?></td></tr> <tr><td>Date</td><td><input type="text" name="q_date" value="<?php if (isset($q_date)) echo $q_date ; ?>"></td><td><?php echo $error_date;?></td></tr> <tr><td>URL</td><td><input type="text" name="url" value="<?php if (isset($url)) echo $url ; ?>"></td><td><?php echo $error_url;?></td></tr> </table> <p>Gen </p><p> <input type="radio" name="genre" value="humour" <?php if (isset($genre) AND $genre=="humour") echo $genre; ?> />Humour <?php echo $error_genre;?> <input type="radio" name="genre" value="politics" <?php if (isset($genre) AND $genre=="politics") echo $genre; ?> />Politics <?php echo $error_genre;?> <input type="radio" name="genre" value = "romance" <?php if (isset($genre) AND $genre=="romance") echo $genre; ?>/>Romance <?php echo $error_genre;?> </p> <p><input type = "submit" name="submit" value = "add quote" /></p> </form> <?php } $dbhost = 'localhost'; $dbuser = '...'; $dbpass = '...'; $dbname = 'anevins'; // make a connection to the database $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) OR die('Connection failed: '. mysql_error()); // select the database mysql_select_db($dbname) OR die('Database select failed: '. mysql_error()); // set up the query to insert the new data $query = "INSERT INTO quotes (id, quote, author, q_date, url, genre) VALUES ('', '$quote', '$author', '$q_date', '$url', '$genre')"; $result = mysql_query($query) OR die('Query failed: ' . mysql_error()); echo "<p>Thank you for adding your quote</p>"; mysql_close($conn); exit(); ?> </body> </html> I'm working on an application and it seems that the else block is being executed no matter what in the following if statement. My question (which seems really basic and like I should know the answer but I can't seem to remember) is if you have an object instance in an if statement, how does that resolve? Will it resolve to true because there is an object there? I assume/think that would be the behaviour but I can't remember. Also, I'll point out the class I'm working with is Zend_Mail. From my understanding the send method will return an instance of $this upon success and will throw an exception on failure. The mail is being sent but the else block is executing anyway. I may just throw it in a try catch if that's better. Code: [Select] if ($mail->send()) { return true; } else { $NOTICE++; $NOTICESTR[] = "We were unable to e-mail an e-mail notification <strong>".$to["email"]."</strong>.<br /><br />A system administrator was notified of this issue, but you may wish to contact this learner manually and let them know their accommodation has been removed."; application_log("error", "Unable to send accommodation notification to [".$to["email"]."] / type [".$type."]. Zend_Mail said: ".$mail->ErrorInfo); } Thanks in advance. I'll check back in a bit.
No idea how to add a new line so it's easier to read in the terminal. Debugging this way is absolutely horrible.
Edited by Monkuar, 03 December 2014 - 09:06 AM. I have a PHP web system that store in a windows server. In the system, there is a function for user to upload files to another server (Shared server in Unix). When i try to upload a file, it gives warning: Warning: move_uploaded_file(\\unixserver/sharedfolder/upload/test.txt) [function.move-uploaded-file]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\wamp\www\upload\index.php on line 40 For your information, my username has been assigned in xxx's group that has access to read and write on that folder. Besides, i'm able to open, create and delete files on that folder's server manually (samba). The safe mode setting is off. Does anybody has any idea why this thing happen? Hi, I am not a PHP programmer. I took on a new client with a simple PHP site, without any databases. The site is up and running on the web. I would like to get it running on my local machine for further development. I have latest version of WAMP installed, running Apache version 2.2.11 and PHP version 5.3.0 I created a directory in the WAMP "www" project directory and it shows up there like it's supposed to when I browse to "localhost" Problem: The home page of website displays text but no, images, styles, footer, header, nav links, etc. Here is the code for the home page: <? define("NAV","home"); require_once('local/local.php'); ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>TITLE</title> <meta name="keywords" content=""> <meta name="Description" content=""> <? include("common/dochead.php"); ?> </head> <body onLoad="<? include('common/preloads.php'); ?>"> <!-- ============================ main ============================= --> <div id="main-frame"><div id="main" class="noCollapse"> <? include("common/sign.php"); ?> <div id="right-frame"> <? include("common/navigation.php"); ?> <div id="content-frame"> <div id="content"> <h1>Welcome</h1> <p>This is the content area. I have spent many hours on this. Regards I'm trying to make a simple website where people register to my website. When the user doesn't fill anything inside the boxes they get a message "Please fill all required fields" on the register.php page On my local host require_once works good. It shows up.
But when i upload the files to my sever the require_once does not show up on the register.php It just refreshes and i dont get the message "Please fill all required fields"
This is the code that works in local host but not in a live server <?php require_once 'messages.php'; ?>
Here is my full code
Register page: <html> <?php require_once 'messages.php'; ?> <br><br> <form action="register-clicked.php" method="POST"> Username:<br> <input type="text" name="usernamebox" placeholder="Enter Username Here"> <br><br> Email:<br> <input type="text" name="emailbox" placeholder="Enter email here"> <br><br> Password:<br> <input type="password" name="passwordbox" placeholder="Enter password here"> <br><br> Confirm Password:<br> <input type="password" name="passwordconfirmbox" placeholder="Re-enter password here"> <br><br> <input type="submit" name="submitbox" value="Press to submit"> <br><br> </form> </html>
Register clicked <?php session_start(); $data = $_POST; if( empty($data['usernamebox']) || empty($data['emailbox']) || empty($data['passwordbox']) || empty($data['passwordconfirmbox'])) { $_SESSION['messages'][] = 'Please fill all required fields'; header('Location: register.php'); exit; } if ($data['passwordbox'] !== $data['passwordconfirmbox']) { $_SESSION['messages'][] = 'Passwords do not match'; header('Location: register.php'); exit; } $dsn = 'mysql:dbname=mydatabase;host=localhost'; $dbUser='myuser'; $dbPassword= 'password'; try{ $connection = new PDO($dsn, $dbUser, $dbPassword); } catch (PDOException $exception){ $_SESSION['messages'][] = 'Connection failed: ' . $exception->getMessage(); header('Location: register.php'); exit; }
messages.php <?php session_start(); if (empty($_SESSION['messages'])){ return; } $messages = $_SESSION['messages']; unset($_SESSION['messages']); ?> <ul> <?php foreach ($messages as $message): ?> <li><?php echo $message; ?></li> <?php endforeach; ?> </ul> Edited Wednesday at 12:49 AM by bee65 Hi folks, I'm curious if I can for example, save a file from my server and it will save to all other servers - obviously if they accepted the connection first. It's for a software I developed and is almost complete and know there will be frequent updates to it. Instead of users downloading upates, I want the update files from my server to somehow synchronize to their server automatically? Anything called this?? Thanks for info. Following a tutorial on udemy, i tried to learn the very basics of mvc structure. I built the same project on my local server and it worked without giving me any error. but when i tried it on live server. its not working as it should. not showing any error. I tried to figure out the problem and found that for every page loading, it stops at the same line in my main.php file. <?php require($view); ?> starting from the above line. it stops. i came here to share my problem but i am unable to upload my files here. if there is a way to upload and share my files, please guide. zip file size of the whole project is 31.6 kb Hey. I am wanting to move a couple of files from my current server to another. If i am uploading the file this is fine but if it is already on the server then im not sure how to move it. When uploading I can just use ftp_put($conn_id, $destination_file, $myFile, FTP_BINARY); What i need to do is figure out how to get a hold of the file and store it in $myFile then this would work fine. Is this possible? Cheers (This might be the wrong forum; it might be server-side configuration, but alas it is the code that *calls* fwrite, so I'll start here.) I have written a script, and one thing it does is generate a file to disk using fwrite. No big deal. Here's what interests me: On most servers, the file is written successfully when the folder's permissions are 755 with recursive permissions. On some servers, 755 fails. Only 777 works. How could this be? Are permissions=permissions=permissions? Why will 755 work on one machine but not another? I'm just a logic guy; I know very little of server-side configuration and/or why there would be a difference here. Just trying to learn. What I'm trying to do is copy all files from one server to another folder on another server. Here is what I have have so far.. <?PHP //connection settings $ftp_server = "server"; $ftp_user_name = "user"; $ftp_user_pass = "pass"; $dir = "/var/test/"; $destination_file = "/test/"; // set up basic connection $conn_id = ftp_connect($ftp_server); // login with username and password $login_result = ftp_login($conn_id, $ftp_user_name, $ftp_user_pass); // check connection if ((!$conn_id) || (!$login_result)) { echo "FTP connection has failed!"; echo "Attempted to connect to $ftp_server for user $ftp_user_name"; exit; } else { echo "Connected to $ftp_server, for user $ftp_user_name"; } if (ftp_chdir($conn_id, $dir)) { echo " <br/>Current directory is now: " . ftp_pwd($conn_id) . "\n<p/>"; } else { echo "Couldn't change directory\n<p/>"; } $buff = ftp_rawlist($conn_id, $dir); foreach($buff as $files) { echo $files. "<br/>"; if (ftp_get($conn_id, $destination_file."test.file", $dir."test.txt", FTP_BINARY)) { echo "<br/>Successfully written to $destination_file\n"; } else { echo "There was a problem\n"; } ?> That doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks, Sean |
