PHP - Filtering By Multiple Categories In The Same Row
Im struggling with how to filter items that have multiple categorises say if i wanted to search for a shoe that is good for walking and hiking in my database?

" WHERE postid ='$id' "; please any help Members can be in up to three different categories, primary, secondary and tertiary. What I would like to do is have all members show in the result of a query string that looks for all members in a specific category no matter if it is their primary, secondary and tertiary category. Example: If say a visitor is looking for all members whose business category = 5 it will find and list all members whose BizCat1, BizCat2 OR BizCat3 equals 5
Right now I have this query string that finds all members in the members table with a BizCat1 = to %s. %s is a URLpararmeter variable passed over to the page.

I would like the query result to also includes members whose BiZCat2 = %s or BiZCat3 = %s (the same value as BizCat1) which are additional fields in the table.
Any suggestion on how to do this appreciated.
Hello Guys, Need a little help here. I have a db structure like this cat_id | cat_name | cat_status | parent_id 1 First Test 1 0 2 Just testing 1 0 4 Books 1 2 5 Cars 1 0 6 Ford 1 5 If the parent_id = 0 it is considered to be the parent. If it is a number it is considered a child and referencing the parent I want to be able to query the database and grab the cat and the sub cat and echo it on my page. Its like a classified ads application. Here is my while loop that I currently have which only echo's out the parent category. I would like to echo the child category under the respective parent category. Basically I want to be able to create an infinite number of categories and allow them to be assigned to other categories then making them subcategories/sub sub categories if you will. My initial plan was to use a method I have used before by just saving the parent id of the subcategories and recursively going through the data. However, I am not to fond of this because of the inefficiency that it provides. I did some research and found that method is called the "Adjacency List". I also found another way to do it called "Nested Sets" which seems to be much more efficient but its a little harder to understand / maintain. I was hoping that someone here could offer alternatives to both of these methods that will allow me to keep the efficiency of "Nested Sets" but providing the ease of use / maintenance of the "Adjacency List". I have a SQL statement which is difficult to use PDO on, it might not even be possible to do.
So I'm filtering it like this:
$search = $_GET['search'];
$search = preg_replace("/[^A-Za-z0-9]/", " ", $search);
$search = $mysqli->real_escape_string($search);
Will this result in an acceptable level of security?

Possible? hey guys i was generally wondering...is it good practice to add_slashes and use mysqli_real_escape_string when entering data into the database?
then to strip slashes when extracting rows?

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction with this. I am using JSON to return the contents of a directory and then using a foreach loop to print each one to a new row in a table. Is there anyway to filter the results? Basically I just want to show the files that end in a .jar extension? Currently all sub directories and files are shown, however all the files I need to pull will be in the main directory.
