PHP - Combine An Html Form With A Display Of Search Results Over Several Pages
In the code below, I am trying to produce a google-like page where the user can type keywords
and pages of search results are displayed. The main difficulty I am encountering is that when the browser changes pages, it forgets everything about current data. Perhaps I should include the display of pages inside the HTML form ? How can I fix this code ? Here is the contents of my searchpage.php file : <?php $keywords=''; $display_search_results=''; if(isset($_POST['search_submitted'])) { $keywords=$_POST['keywords']; $search_results=array(); $totalNbrOfItems=20; for($k=1;$k<=$totalNbrOfItems;$k++) { $search_results[$k]='Your keywords '$keyowrds.' have been found in item number '.$k; } $nbrOfItemsParPage = 5; $nbrOfPages = ceil($totalNbrOfItems / $nbrOfItemsParPage); // Compute current page $current_page = (isset($_GET['page']))?intval($_GET['page']):1; $display_pages=($nbrOfPages<2)?'<p>Page : ':'<p>Pages : '; for ($i = 1 ; $i <= $nbrOfPages ; $i++) { if ($i == $current_page) //No link to the current page { $display_pages=$display_pages.$i.' '; } else { $display_pages=$display_pages.'<a href="searchpage.php?'. 'page='.$i.'">'. $i . '</a> '; } } $display_pages=$display_pages.'</p>'; $display_items=''; $start=$nbrOfItemsPerPage*($current_page-1); for($k=1;$k<=$nbrOfItemsParPage;$k++) { $display_items=$display_items.($search_results[$start+$k]).'<br>'; } $display_search_results=$display_pages.$display_items; } echo '<form method="post" action="searchpage.php">'. ' Type your keywords here : <br><br>'. '<textarea cols="65" rows="1" '. 'id="keywords_id" name="keywords">'.$keywords.'</textarea>'. '<input type="submit" name="search_submitted" id="search_submitted_id" value="Search" /> '. '</fieldset>'. '</form>'; echo $display_search_results; ?> Similar TutorialsHello everyone, Very new to coding - enjoying it but struggling! I think I'm trying to do something pretty common but I seem to have come up against a complete wall now and after hours/days searching the internet and reading books I'm completely stuck! I'm trying to write some code to search a MySQL database of products, then display the results. For some search results there will be lots of products so I want to display 10 products on the first page then allow visitors to go to the next page to see another 10, and so on - a type of pagination, as they should then be able to click back to see the last page etc. I've got to the point of being able to display the first 10 search results, but I can't figure out at all how to create some kind of page scrolling/pagination system. Please, does anybody have any ideas?? I've attached my code, I hope this is the correct way of doing things here. Many thanks for your time! The PHP search code... Code: [Select] <?php //opens connection to mysql server $dbc = mysql_connect('localhost'); if (!$dbc) { die('Not connected :' . mysql_error()); } echo "Connected to mysql database<br />"; //select database $db_selected = mysql_select_db("NAME_OF_DATABASE", $dbc); if (!$db_selected) { die ("Cannot connect :" . mysql_error()); } echo "Connected to database<br /><hr />"; echo "Here are your results"; $term = $_POST['term']; $category = $_POST['category']; $brand = $_POST['brand_name']; $sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM products where product_name like '%$term%' AND category_name like '%$category%' AND brand_name like '%$brand%' LIMIT 0, 10"); { while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){ echo "<table border='1' width='100%'> "; echo "<tr>"; echo "<td style='vertical-align:top' width='25%'>" . '<img src="', $row['image_url'], '" alt="', $row['product_name'], '" width="100" height="100" />' . "</td>"; echo "<td style='vertical-align:top' width='50%'>" . $row['product_name']; echo "<br />"; echo "<span style='font-size: 10px'>" . $row['description'] . "</span>" . "</td>"; echo "<td style='vertical-align:top' width='25%'>" . $row['price']; echo "<br />"; echo "<br />"; echo "<hr />"; echo "$row['merchant_name'] </td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo "</table>"; } ?> Need help to correct my cording! I want to limited search results by 5 items on one page.
Don't know how correctly to add limit: "limit $page1,5".
When I add it: $sql = "SELECT * FROM data GROUP BY city ORDER BY city limit $page1,5";
it doesn't limit searching result by pages.

5 downloads I'm new to php and been trying to follow along with different tutorials to try and build my own site, i followed a tutorial on making a search feature for the site and have it working perfectly, but i want to change the way how to search displays the results. I want to make it display them how there displayed on the index page. here is the index page how there displayed <div id="table"> <table> <tr class="top"> <th>Account</th> <th>Country</th> <th>Info</th> <th>Login</th> <th>Pass</th> <th>Price</th> <th>Buy</th> </tr> <?php $class = 'grey'; ?> <?php $items = getItems(); ?> <?php if(empty ($items)): ?> <h3>No Items Found</h3> <?php else: ?> <?php foreach($items as $item): ?> <?php $class = ($class == 'grey') ? 'grey2' : 'grey'; ?> <tr class="<?php echo $class; ?>"> <td><?php echo $item['item_account']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $item['item_country']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $item['item_info']; ?></td> <td><?php echo maskUser($item['item_login']); ?></td> <td><?php echo maskPass($item['item_pass']); ?></td> <td><?php echo $item['item_price']; ?> </td> <td><form method="post" action="https://sci.libertyreserve.com/"><input type="submit" name="buy" value="Buy" class="button" /></form></td> </tr> <?php endforeach; ?> <?php endif; ?> how the search is display if (strlen($search) <= 2) { echo 'Search keyword is too short.'; } else { echo "You searched for <b>$search</b><hr size='1'>"; $search_exploded = explode(" ", $search); foreach($search_exploded as $search_each) { $x++; if ($x == 1) $construct .= "item_account LIKE '%$search_each%'"; else $construct .= " OR item_account LIKE '%$search_each%'"; } $construct = "SELECT * FROM items WHERE $construct"; $run = mysql_query($construct); $foundnum = mysql_num_rows($run); if ($foundnum == 0) { echo 'No results found.'; } else { echo "$foundnum results found!</p>"; while ($numrows = mysql_fetch_assoc($run)) { $item_id = $numrows['item_id']; $itemAccount = $numrows['item_account']; $itemI = $numrows['item_info']; $itemLogin = $numrows['item_login']; $itemPass = $numrows['item_pass']; $itemPrice = $numrows['item_price']; echo " <b>$itemAccount</b><br /> $itemI <br /> " . maskUser($itemLogin) . '<br />' . maskPass($itemPass, 0) . '<br />'; } } } my question is im not sure how to edit the search code to display the results in the same format as the index page thanks Say a user puts in a support request, and for every request it generates a unqiue string, and enters it into the database. Ok, now say there is a text field, when the user enters their unique string and it finds a match, it displays the data along with it. How can I accomplish this? Im kind of new to mysql, but I know basic SQL. Would be great if somebody could point me in the right direction! Thanks I have a search page and everything works fine but I would like to add the latest 10 rows to the page so there is something to look at or click on before the user searches. The page is at: www.giantstridedives.com/locations. You can see that it's pretty boring. Hit submit and you'll see the entries so far (only 3 right now). I'd like to have the latest 10 display there by default but then when a user searches they are replaced by the search results. Make sense? Here's the code I'm using for the search: Code: [Select] <?php if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { require_once('dbconnection.php'); mysqli_select_db($conn, $dbname); $searchterm = $_POST['search']; $searchterm = strip_tags($searchterm); $searchterm = trim ($searchterm); $q ="SELECT * FROM locations WHERE loc_name LIKE '%" . $searchterm . "%' AND loc_approved != '0'"; $r = mysqli_query($conn, $q) or die(mysql_error($q)); $row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); $rowcount = mysqli_num_rows($r); } ?> <h1>Search for Scuba Dive Locations</h1> <form id="searchform" name="searchform" method="post" action="index.php"> <input type="text" name="search" id="search_bar" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> <span style="color: #333;">Search for the name of the location, ie: Devils Den or USS Oriskany.</span><br /> <?php if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { if ($rowcount == 0) { echo "Sorry, but we can not find an entry to match your query: <strong>$searchterm</strong>"; } else { //this tells the table below to display since $totalRows_Products_res is not 0 ?> <table style="font-size: 14px;" border="0" width="650"> <tr> <td colspan="6"><p>You searched for <strong><?php echo $searchterm; ?></strong>. Results are displayed below.</p></td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>Location Name</strong></td> <td><strong>City</strong></td> <td><strong>State</strong></td> <td><strong>Depth (ft)</strong></td> <td><strong>Fees</strong></td> <td><strong>Gear Rentals</strong></td> <td><strong>Map</strong></td> </tr> <?php do { ?> <tr> <td><a href="loc_details.php?loc_id=<?php echo $row ['loc_id']; ?>"> <?php echo $row ['loc_name']; ?> </a></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_city']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_state']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_depth']; ?></td> <td>$<?php echo $row ['loc_fee']; ?></td> <td><?php if($row['loc_gear'] == 1) { echo 'Yes'; } else { echo 'No'; } ?></td> <td><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=<?php echo $row ['loc_lat'];?>,<?php echo $row ['loc_lon'];?>" target="_blank">View Map</a></td> </tr> <?php } while ($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($r)); ?> </table> <?php mysqli_free_result($r); } // this closes out results else } ?> I figure I can use the below query to get the results. Code: [Select] select * from table WHERE id > ((SELECT MAX(id) from table) - 10);I'm just not sure how I can display them by default and then have them be replaced by the search results. Anyone have any ideas for me? As always I appreciate the help as I continue to learn this beast. Hi, I have search form which works apart from 1 part, I have set the results limit to 10 per page with a next link if there are more than 10 results, however when the next link is clicked, i get the error 'you do not have a search parameter' which comes from this code: Code: [Select] if (!isset($var)) { echo "<p>We dont seem to have a search parameter!</p>"; exit; } The next link is defined by the code below: Code: [Select] // check to see if last page if (!((($s+$limit)/$limit)==$pages) && $pages!=1) { // not last page so give NEXT link $news=$s+$limit; echo " <a href=\"$PHP_SELF?s=$news&q=$var\">Next 10 >></a>"; } Can anyone see where I have gone wrong with this code without me sending the whole search form? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Hi all, I am new to PHP and am trying to implement a window that opens when a user is trying to validate an organisation on our site. I have an initial page where users can enter data. One of the fields is organisations. This has a button to its right that lets the user search existing organisations in the mysql db. I have the search piece thanks to some code I found and altered. However, instead of a static non-linked list 1,2,3 coming back from the search, I need the search results to be links / or at least "select"-able. When the user chooses the organisation they were referring to that exists in the db I would like the selection to go back to the original php page and populate the organisation field. Ideally without having other data in the original form being lost. Any tips, hints or links would be greatly appreciated. Here is my code: <?php $dbHost = 'localhost'; $dbUser = 'root'; $dbPass = 'mypass'; $dbDatabase = 'mydb'; $con = mysql_connect($dbHost, $dbUser, $dbPass) or trigger_error("Failed to connect to MySQL Server. Error: " . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db($dbDatabase) or trigger_error("Failed to connect to database {$dbDatabase}. Error: " . mysql_error()); // Set up our error check and result check array $error = array(); $results = array(); // First check if a form was submitted. // Since this is a search we will use $_GET if (isset($_GET['search'])) { $searchTerms = trim($_GET['search']); $searchTerms = strip_tags($searchTerms); // remove any html/javascript. if (strlen($searchTerms) < 3) { $error[] = "Search terms must be longer than 3 characters."; }else { $searchTermDB = mysql_real_escape_string($searchTerms); // prevent sql injection. } // If there are no errors, lets get the search going. if (count($error) < 1) { $searchSQL = "SELECT Organisation_Name FROM vcaccount_contact_organisation WHERE "; // grab the search types. $types = array(); $types[] = isset($_GET['Organisation_Name'])?"`Organisation_Name` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'":''; $types = array_filter($types, "removeEmpty"); // removes any item that was empty (not checked) if (count($types) < 1) $types[] = "`Organisation_Name` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'"; // use the body as a default search if none are checked $andOr = isset($_GET['matchall'])?'AND':'OR'; $searchSQL .= implode(" {$andOr} ", $types) . Newbie question he I have successfully created a form that that displays students (based on a selected lesson/group/date) with the ability to enter scores. I'm now trying to set the form up so that if data already exists then it is displayed in the form. Eg: if a member of staff choses group 7AS, lesson 1, 24/09/2010 and another member of staff has entered a score already for one student it shows up in the <select> drop down by using Code: [Select] <option>" . $scorevalue . "</option> I had this working at one point but have made a change somewhere and cannot get it working again! can anyone spot an obvious mistake I am making? The code I am using is as follows: Code: [Select] <input type="hidden" name="tutor" value="<?php echo $_GET["tutor"]; ?>" /> <input type="hidden" name="date" value="<?php echo $_GET["date"]; ?>" /> <input type="hidden" name="lesson" value="<?php echo $_GET["lesson"]; ?>" /> <?php error_reporting(-1); $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root",""); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("lakeside", $con); $result = mysql_query("SELECT students.admin, students.fname, students.surname, students.tutor FROM students WHERE tutor='$_GET[tutor]' ORDER BY students.tutor, students.surname"); echo "<table class='scores'> <tr> <th>Admin</th> <th>Firstname</th> <th>Surname</th> <th>Tutor</th> <th>Score</th> <th>Code</th> <th>Comment</th> </tr>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $sqlstatement = "SELECT * FROM scores where admin = '" . $row['admin'] . "' and lesson = '" . $_GET[lesson] . "' and date = '" . $_GET[date] . "' "; $scorevalue = mysql_query($sqlstatement); echo " . $score . "; while($rowvalue = mysql_fetch_array($scorevalue)) { $score = $rowvalue['score']; $comment = $rowvalue['comment']; $code = $rowvalue['code']; } echo "<tr>"; echo "<td>" . $row['admin'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['fname'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['surname'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['tutor'] . "</td>"; echo "<td><select name='score" . $row['admin'] . "' value='{$row['score']}' /> <option>" . $scorevalue . "</option> <option>0</option> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> <option>2.5</option> <option >3</option> <option>3.5</option> <option>4</option> </select> </td>"; Members can be in up to three different categories, primary, secondary and tertiary. What I would like to do is have all members show in the result of a query string that looks for all members in a specific category no matter if it is their primary, secondary and tertiary category. Example: If say a visitor is looking for all members whose business category = 5 it will find and list all members whose BizCat1, BizCat2 OR BizCat3 equals 5
Right now I have this query string that finds all members in the members table with a BizCat1 = to %s. %s is a URLpararmeter variable passed over to the page.
$query_RSwbamembers = sprintf("SELECT * FROM members WHERE BizCat1 = %s AND LiveOnWeb = 1 ORDER BY BusinessName ASC", GetSQLValueString($colname_RSwbamembers, "int"));I would like the query result to also includes members whose BiZCat2 = %s or BiZCat3 = %s (the same value as BizCat1) which are additional fields in the table. Any suggestion on how to do this appreciated. I have the following code that searches my database and displays results in a table: $fields = array("field1", "field2", "field3") $cols = implode (', ', $fields); $result= mysql_query (" SELECT $cols FROM tablename WHERE ................... "); if (!$result) {die('Could not search database: ' . mysql_error());} if($result) { if(mysql_num_rows($result) == 0) { return "Sorry. No records found in the database"; } else { $table = "<table border='1' cellpadding='5' cellspacing='5'>"; while($arr = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $table .= "\t\t<tr>\n"; foreach ($arr as $val_col) { $table .= "\t\t\t".'<td>'.$val_col.'</td>'."\n"; } $table .= "\t\t</tr>\n"; } $table .= "</table>"; echo $table; } mysql_free_result($result); } As you can see each of the MySQL table fields specified by $fields is displayed in a new column in the html table. I want to change this so that e.g. "field3" is displayed in a new row instead. So, instead of the html table looking like: | "field1-result1" | "field2-result1" | "field3-result1" | | "field1-result2" | "field2-result2" | "field3-result2" | | "field1-result3" | "field2-result3" | "field3-result3" | I want it to look like: | "field1-result1" | "field2-result1" | | "field3-result1" | | | "field1-result2" | "field2-result2" | | "field3-result2" | | | "field1-result3" | "field2-result3" | | "field3-result3" | | I guess this is quite straightforward, but I can't work it out! Pls help! Thanks. Hi all, I'm trying to get a search box and a checkbox to both work at the same time. I have two versions of this code, when I use the first one my checkbox works like it should, filtering out all records with product_type = 3, but the search bar no longer works as it should, filtering things out of three fields defined elsewhere. The bottom code has the search bar working but doesnt incorporate the checkbox as a filter. Thanks for any help! Checkbox works: Code: [Select] $where_filter = ""; if($where != "*"){ foreach($search_map as $search_name){ $where_filter .=" $op $search_name $not REGEXP '$where'"; } $where_filter = substr($where_filter, 5)." AND "; } if ($exclude == "exclude"){ $where_filter .= "product_type!='3'"; $q->addWhere("($where_filter)"); $q->addOrder('product_id'); } Search works: Code: [Select] $where_filter = " "; foreach($search_map as $search_name) $where_filter .=" $op $search_name $not REGEXP '$where'"; $where_filter = substr($where_filter, 5); if($where != "*") $q->addWhere("($where_filter)"); $q->addOrder('product_id'); Hello, I'm developing a website that asks the user to submit a keyword for a search. The results should display matches for this keyword, but also show matches for related keywords (in order of relevenace!). I'm planning on building up a library of which search terms users use in the same sessions (e.g. if someone searches for "it jobs" and "php jobs", I'll know the terms are correlated), and I'll also measure the click-through rates of the items on the results list. I've been spending all weekend trying to map out the design for this but it's proving incredibly complicated and I think the solution is likely to be on the internet somewhere already?! Please could someone point me in the right direction if you've come accross this problem before? Thanks a million, Stu This sounds like overkill, but is there any way I can take the results of an html form, and plug them into their respective cells on a excel spreadsheet? I'm trying to do something that I thought was very simple about 2 weeks ago :-( I want to put a form on my site and link it to a database so when a user types a surname into the form they can search the db and the page will only display the surnames that match the search criteria. I got the db set up using phpmyadmin in about 2 minutes flat, but keep getting error messages when I write the php. I'm currently working with the below script, which keeps giving me the error 'unexpected T_string' on line 176 I've searched every forum and help site I can find, and the mysql and php manuals are just mind-boggling. I'm sure I'm making some really amateur mistake, but I'd really appreciate help with this! thanks all! <html> <head> <title>SEARCH RECORDS</title> </head> <body> <FORM NAME ="Search" METHOD ="POST" ACTION = "test3"> <INPUT TYPE = "TEXT" VALUE ="surname" NAME = "surname"> <INPUT TYPE = "Submit" Name = "Search" VALUE = "Search"> </FORM> </body> </html> <? $user_name = "*****"; $password = "*****"; $database = "*****"; $server = "localhost"; $db_handle = mysql_connect($server, $user_name, $password); $db_found = mysql_select_db($database, $db_handle); if ($db_found) { $SQL = "SELECT * FROM *****" WHERE surname=$_POST['surname']; $result = mysql_query($SQL); while ($db_field = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { print $db_field['Grave'] . "<BR>"; } mysql_close($db_handle); } else { print "Database NOT Found "; mysql_close($db_handle); } ?> I've read through a few examples of how to paginate query results, but with my currently php skills I don't understand them, or they do not fit into my code. I wondered if I could make my own, and the logic behind this code makes sense to me, but it's still not working. Here is the code: <?php if (!$Start) { $Start = 0; } else { $Start=$_POST['Start']; } $crittercount = 120; $numpages = $crittercount / 30; $pagei = 1; $pagereit = 1; echo '<p><center> <FORM method=POST action=testpagination.php> <SELECT NAME="Start"> <OPTION>Page 1'; while ($pagereit < $numpages) { $pagei = $pagei + 30; echo '<OPTION value='.$pagei.'>'; $pagereit = $pagereit + 1; echo "Page: " .$pagereit; } echo '</SELECT>'; echo'<input type=submit value=Go></FORM><p>'; echo $Start; ?> The test site is he http://lab-lib.com/felishorns/Felishorns/websitetest/testpagination.php $crittercount is a variable that changes depending on the main $query. This query is invisible, and is used to pull a count for all the results in total. I am modifying it with $Start to create a second query which the viewer sees. $queryF = $query . " LIMIT " . $Start . ", 30"; The idea is that $Start changes depending on the value selected, thereby changing the query. In this test code, I've simply echoed the $Start value of that page, to see if the code is working, and it's not changing. What's wrong with this code? Is it not possible to have a form lead to the same link of the page it's on? Does the variable not become updated? Thanks in advance. Ok, so I have grabbed a free template and attempted to put a dynamic table into one of the div's. I've got it to work on on my index.php, but I copied and pasted the entire code into member2.php and only changed the query and altered the table just a little bit For some reason though my table doesn't show up on the member2.php even though 90% of the code is the same. Here are the pages and codes... http://www.royalfamilyhosting.com/test/index.php <div id="layoutBodyContent"> <h1>Aces Guild Donations Page </h1> <h2>Are you on top of your game? WE are!</h2> <?PHP require_once('./mylib.php'); $rank = 1; $olddate = strtotime(date("Y-m-d")); $newdate; $datecounter = 1; //connects to db dbconnect(); $query="SELECT name, date, SUM(amount) as total_money, SUM(bricks) as total_bricks FROM Aces_Donations GROUP BY Name ORDER BY total_money DESC, total_bricks DESC"; $result=mysql_query($query); //Opens the table echo "<table border = '3' width = 40% bgcolor=#A85045><caption><center>30 Day Rankings".'</center></caption>'; //Loop to run until eof while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ //turns date into a comparable string $newdate = strtotime($row['date']); /*checks to see if date of new record matches date of previous record. If dates dont match the table is closed and a new table is opened for the new date. Rank is reset to reflect rankings for each specific date*/ if($newdate !== $olddate){ $olddate = $newdate; $datetracker++; if($datetracker == 30){ echo "<center><tr><td alignment = 'center'>".$rank."</td> <td alignment = 'center'>".$row['name']. "</td><td alignment = 'center'>". $row['total_money']."</td><td alignment= 'center'>".$row['total_bricks']."</tr></table></center>"; break; } } echo "<center><tr><td alignment = 'center'>".$rank."</td> <td alignment = 'center'>".$row['name']. "</td><td alignment = 'center'>". $row['total_money']."</td><td alignment= 'center'>".$row['total_bricks'].'</td></tr>'; echo '<br />'; $rank++; } echo '</table>'; ?> <br /><br /></p> </div> http://www.royalfamilyhosting.com/test/member2.php?member=Zneve08 <div id="layoutBodyContent"> <h1>Aces Guild Donations Page </h1> <h2>Are you on top of your game? WE are!</h2> <?PHP require_once('./mylib.php'); $membername = $_GET['member']; $rank = 1; $olddate = strtotime(date("Y-m-d")); $newdate; $datecounter = 1; //connects to db dbconnect(); $query = sprintf("SELECT * FROM `Aces_Donations` WHERE `name` = '%s'", $membername); //sets the results to a variable $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); //opens table, sets width, color, border and headers echo '<table bgcolor=#A85045 border = "3" width = 40%>'; echo "<tr><th alignment = 'center'>Member</th> <th alignment = 'center'>Amount</th><th alignment = 'center'>Date</th></tr>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ echo "<center><tr><td alignment = 'center'>".$row['name']. "</td><td alignment = 'center'>". $row['amount']."</td><td alignment = 'center'>".$row['date']."</td></tr></center>"; var_dump ($row['name']); var_dump ($row['amount']); echo "<br />"; } echo '</center></table>'; ?> <br /><br /></p> </div> I'm dying here and would love even shot in the dark at this point. The php code on member2.php works just fine when executed on its own page, so I don't really understand how this is happening. I put the var_dump in there just to make sure the data was being retrieved from the database, but the table should be positioned where the var_dump displays on the page I am trying to work out how to correctly format an SQL query string from user data taken from multiple HTML text boxes/dropdowns. As an example assuming i have a searach page on which the user can enter search criteria into the following fields: name - text box site_location - drop down box (default set to 'search all') job_title - drop down box (default set to 'search all') manager - drop down box (default set to 'search all') email - textbox Its easy when all fields have user data set or one has user data set but when the user has entered data into only a couple of the fields I have problems constructing the SQL query, namely when it comes to adding the 'AND' keyword into the SQL query. No matter how i try to set out the logic in the PHP code i seem to end up with at least one combination of the search critea leading to back to back AND statements. I construct the SQL query by appending a string variable $query with the relevant search criteria, for example: $query = "select * from employees where "; if ($_POST['name'] != null) { $query=$query."name='".$_POST['name']."' "; } if ($_POST['site_location'] != 'all') { $query=$query."AND site_location='".$_POST['site_loaction']."' "; } //etc This does not work out though when fields are empty, I have tried adding additional if statements to check ahead to see if fields further down in the query are required and if so append an 'and' but I cannot seem to get the logic correct. Is this something anyone else has come accross, if so is there a better solution than the route i am going down? Thanks for reading. Hello, Here's the weird thing, some of the pages shows the results, and some pages just won't show results at all, and I'm not getting any errors here is the one that doesn't Code: [Select] <? function display_mptt($user) { global $db; // retrieve the left and right value of the $root node $sql2 = "SELECT * from mptt where id='25'"; $result2 = mysql_query($sql2 ,$db); if(!$row2 = mysql_fetch_array($result2)) echo mysql_error(); echo '<h1>Users List</h1>'; // start with an empty $right stack $right = array(); // now, retrieve all descendants of the $root node $sql = "SELECT * from mptt WHERE 'left' BETWEEN '".$row2['left']."' AND '".$row2['right']."' ORDER BY 'left' ASC"; $result = mysql_query($sql ,$db); // display each row while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)or die(mysql_error())) { // only check stack if there is one $count = mysql_num_rows($result); if (count($right)>0) { // check if we should remove a node from the stack while ($right[count($right)-1]<$row['right']) { array_pop($right); } } // display indented node title // add this node to the stack $var3 = '10'; echo "<table width='589' border='1'> <tr> <th>ID</th> <th>Name</th> </tr>"; echo "<tr><td><a href=\"user.php?id=".$row['id']."\">".$row['id']."</a></td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['title'] ." </td>"; echo "</tr>"; echo "</table>"; $right[] = $row['right']; } } display_mptt(1); ?> and here is the page that does Code: [Select] <? function display_mptt($user) { global $db; $id = $_GET['id']; // retrieve the left and right value of the $root node $sql2 = "SELECT * from mptt where id= ".$id.""; $result2 = mysql_query($sql2 ,$db); if(!$row2 = mysql_fetch_array($result2)) echo mysql_error(); echo '<h1>Your Tree</h1>'; // start with an empty $right stack $right = array(); // now, retrieve all descendants of the $root node $sql = "SELECT * from mptt WHERE `left` BETWEEN ".$row2['left']." I am querying a database for results of listings that are in a database these listings are displayed on the page in a form. I am wanting each listing to be on a different page. Below is my code. Code: [Select] $lim=1; if (!isset($s) || $s < 1 || !is_numeric($s)) { $s = 1; } $start = ($s - 1) * $lim; $sql = "select id,bussimg,imagewidth,imageheight,email,usridm,company,businesscategory,address1,address2,state,city,zip,website,email,repname,description,phonenumber,country,status from $approvecheckbusinesses where usridm='$user_id'"; $result=db_query($sql); $countpages = $sql; $sql = $sql . " order by id asc limit $start, $lim"; $result=db_query($sql); $pages = ceil(mysql_num_rows(mysql_query($countpages)) / $lim); $result=db_query($sql); for ($i = 0; $i < mysql_num_rows($result); $i++) { $Listid= mysql_result($result, $i, "id"); $usridm= mysql_result($result, $i, "usridm"); $CompanyName= mysql_result($result, $i, "company"); $realname= mysql_result($result, $i, "repname"); $email= mysql_result($result, $i, "email"); $BusinessCategory= mysql_result($result, $i, "businesscategory"); $status= mysql_result($result, $i, "status"); echo ("FORM IS TO BE DISPLAYED HERE"); } if ($pages > 1) { echo("<p align=left style='font-size: 85% color=white'>"); for ($i = 1; $i <= $pages; $i++) { echo("["); if ($i == $s) {echo("<b>");} else {echo("<a id=home_offerLink href='index.html?EditMemberListing&user_id=$user_id&s=$i'>");} echo("Page $i"); if ($i == $s) {echo("</b>");} else {echo("</a>");} echo("] "); } echo("</p>") Page Numbers here using the above code.. The problem I seem to be running into is that it only displats the first record. The page numbers show up page 1 page 3 page 2 and three are blank there is no mysql error or anything for some reason I only get that first result out of three |
