PHP - How Do Wordpress Custom Page Template Work?

Hey guys, I am new here to this forum as well as web development. I have created my first website which is pier36nyc.com My only problem so far is trying to make the events page dynamic. http://pier36nyc.com/events/ If you take a look at the events page, there is a gallery of pictures which display a title, caption, an image, and a button link when you hover above it.   The problem is, all of that is static for now. The code for that is on my 'Pages' section where I just HTML everything in there. I also used JQuery for the hover effect. How do I make this gallery dynamic so that when a user wants to create a block, there will be a tool (which I think I will have to create through PHP, which I need help from you guys) that allows the user to input the desired Title, Caption, Image, and Link  to that block.   The problem is: I have very minimal knowledge in PhP. I'm interning right now and learning everything all at once. I'm losing my mind right now >_< I know it's not as complicated as I try to make it sound. But I'm just stressed out Can someone please help me out?  I would greatly appreciate it..

Hi, I have built a custom php program for a client which takes information submitted in a html form and calculates a persons bmi. I have tested and it works fine, this is in one page (one file). My problem is I have tried to insert it in to wordpress using both shortcodes and php tag plugins (you can't insert php in to posts and pages as standard on wordpress) and I can't get it to work.   The closest I've got is using a php tag plugin that uses shortcodes to replace <?php & ?> but when I submit, it just reloads the page and form rather than showing the result. as I've said it works fine outside of wordpress.  :-\

Good morning   I'm trying to add a widget to a WordPress template using PHP.  It works, but the problem is that the widget ends up on a new line in the header instead of next to the logo as I want it.  The code looks like this:

Hi all,

I've been struggling to get an if statement to work. I'm new to PHP so bear with me!

I have an events listing page where I pull a value from a custom field to display a 'buy tickets' button. I can get the button to display and it works well but what I need to do is customise the code so if there is no ID present, then a piece of text displays. Any pointers appreciated.

This is one method Im using for custom fields which works well - the if statement works here also.

I have a php tutorial that I followed for creating, inserting, selecting and updating a MySQL database with php.  Everything works fine so I wanted to put it into Wordpress.  I took the code and placed it into the wordpress page and everything worked just fine except the update function. 

Here is the tutorial I used. http://www.phpsimple.net/mysql_insert_record.html  It is also the part I am having trouble with.  I am able to create a record and I am also able to select a record but when I choose "update" the form doesn't load the data.  It will outside the website but not inside wordpress.  I am hoping this is not vague but because of my inexperience I am not sure what else to say.  I will be more than happy to provide any other information you need.

Hope someone here can help me. Ive been commissioned to convert a template to wordpress that includes a portfolio...

I built a portfolio page from a custom post type. that works.
Items are categorized with a custom taxonomy named port_cats. that works also

On the portfolio page, there is tabbed content built with jquery to show and hide items by category. So theres a category nav menu, plus each item wrapped in classes to show and hide.

Im stuck on plugging this in correctly, and am SO CLOSE. I have the category nav list working, but having trouble getting worpress to read the correct category slug inside the loop.

Is it possible to build a PHP Template page that selects and publishes a row of data from a MySQL Database when a linked is clicked?

I would design: Template.php
Text links (perhaps on homepage of navigation bar): ProductA, ProductB and ProductC

If you click link ProductA Template.php would display data for ProductA and likewise for ProductB and ProductC.

I would also like search engines for find ProductA, ProductB and ProductC PHP pages. (Not just my single Template.php)

Any ideas as to how this could be done without designing individual PHP pages for each product?

People upload photos to my site. They go into a gallery. They are all linked. Right now when you click one they go nowhere. I want to be each photo to open in its own page with my comment system already on it. Should I be using templates? If so how? Heres code to the gallery page if needed.

And I'm using dreamweavers server behaviors. If that will cause a problem let me know. Still new to PHP but getting better...maybe.

Hi everyone, newbie to site looking for help with my tag/category page formatting.    I recently bought a plugin for masonry and have been trying to make it the display for posts on my blog pages as you can see he  http://www.enduringepilepsy.com/_blog/ and http://www.enduringe...m/archive/_2013   It's been helping my design and page load overall (Note: I do use Google Page Speed Service)   But I cannot figure out how to be able to use this customizable masonry for my tag/category pages since they do no show the ability to edit on the Wordpress admin bar.    I've looked at the php code in my files, and while I have become more familiar with php in the yr since I moved to Wordpress, am unsure how to edit these pages without making a mess.    The plugin is http://codecanyon.ne...-plugin/7563340 My theme, called Inzin, is no longer sold, and the developer disappeared from online. I need urgent help with a PHP code. I work as a web developer with wordpress and elementor and have now received an order from a customer to include a photo gallery that redirects to the page in which the image is included by clicking on it. I have integrated the gallery, the redirection works already to some extent, but I have the problem that some images do not have a parent ID. Now I have already contacted the wordpress support, they told me that I have to change a php-file to pick out the parent ID automatically. But unfortunately I have no idea about PHP and I don’t know where to insert this code.
Would be very very great if someone could help me!

Ok. Thought I'd be able to do this myself but ran into a couple of snags. This is the template page for the image thumbnails. WHen a thumbnail is clicked it is dragged into this template. I put the code for the comments on the page but it's just not working properly. When I post comment the comment posts but the picture turns into my BAD PHOTO ID error message. Have some ideas on whats going but it's getting kind of messy. If you need to see the pages from the comment system I will post. Thanks phpeople. Where's fugix?
