PHP - Ajax With Php: Click Php Result And Autofill Form With Results
When I click on the letter of the alphabet on my form page, it will bring up the results of my query. I got this part working. The next part is to be able to click on any of the populated results and have it autofill my form with organization, first name, last name, email address and phone number.
I know that I need to use Ajax and jQuery to accomplish this.
Here is my html
<!-- Letter Search --> <div class="searchBox span12"> <h3>Choose the First Letter of the Person's Last Name</h3> <ul> <li class="alphabets" id="A"><a href="?by=A">A</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="B"><a href="?by=B">B</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="C"><a href="?by=C">C</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="D"><a href="?by=D">D</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="E"><a href="?by=E">E</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="F"><a href="?by=F">F</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="G"><a href="?by=G">G</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="H"><a href="?by=H">H</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="I"><a href="?by=I">I</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="J"><a href="?by=J">J</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="K"><a href="?by=K">K</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="L"><a href="?by=L">L</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="M"><a href="?by=M">M</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="N"><a href="?by=N">N</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="O"><a href="?by=O">O</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="P"><a href="?by=P">P</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="Q"><a href="?by=Q">Q</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="R"><a href="?by=R">R</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="S"><a href="?by=S">S</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="T"><a href="?by=T">T</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="U"><a href="?by=U">U</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="V"><a href="?by=V">V</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="W"><a href="?by=W">W</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="X"><a href="?by=X">X</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="Y"><a href="?by=Y">Y</a></li> <li class="alphabets" id="Z"><a href="?by=Z">Z</a></li> </ul> <? include('search.php'); ?> </div> <hr style="color:#ccc; margin-bottom:20px;" /> <!-- Main Form --> <div id="mainForm"> <form method="post" id="icsForm" class="searchBox span12"> <div id="col1" class"span6"> <h3>Contact Information</h3> <label>Church / Organization:</label><input type="text" name="organization" id="organization" class="span6 upright" /><br /> <label>First Name:</label><input type="text" name="firstName" id="firstName" class="span6 upright" /> <label>Last Name:</label><input type="text" name="lastName" id="lastName" class="span6 left upright" /> <label>Email Address:</label><input type="text" name="email" id="email" class="span6 left upright" /> <label>Phone Number:</label><input type="text" name="phone" id="phone" class="span6 left upright" /> </div> </div>Here is my php if(preg_match("/^[A-Z | a-z]+/", $_POST['name'])){ $name=$_POST['name']; } if(isset($_GET['by'])){ $letter=$_GET['by']; //query to sort by last name $sql="SELECT contact_id, first_name, last_name, church_org, email_address, phone_number FROM ics_data WHERE last_name LIKE '$letter%' ORDER BY last_name ASC"; //run the query against the mysql query function $result=mysql_query($sql); //count results $numrows=mysql_num_rows($result); echo "<p>" .$numrows . I'm not solid on the Ajax part. That is the part that is tripping me up. I know that I need to make the form autofill when clicking on a specific result returned from my query... but i'm not sure how to do that. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give!! I am relatively new to programming. Hopefully I posted this in the right forum as a lot of these technologies overlap. Edited by kjetterman, 26 September 2014 - 10:23 AM. Similar TutorialsOk, this is stumping my mind. I have a PHP/AJAX script which works almost perfectly. But its lacking one detail I absolutely need. Every AJAX demo I have seen is missing it or doesn't work right. Here is where the problem is. I have a list of countries, I want the user to spell it right when using my search, so you put in say "Virgin Islands" It should pull up the following in the list: Virgin Islands (British) St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands) However all I get is: Virgin Islands (British) It has to do with the MySQL Query... Here is what came with the demo: $query = sprintf("SELECT ctry_name FROM international WHERE ctry_name '%s%%' GROUP BY ctry_name", $ctry_name); That's what pulls up only Virgin Islands I tried to mod the query to be "SELECT ctry_name FROM interntaional WHERE ctry_name LIKE '%" . $ctry_name . "%'" But it breaks the script, in other AJAX Examples, it doesn't even look it up and returns all entries in the database. Like I said the above example works fine, it just returns just the one value, I want ti to return all variables. Hi Hope someone can help me, I have a database that contain records like name , age etc. This data displays in a premade profile page. The profile page is linked to from a page that displays a short description with a image that is also populated from the database. I only want to have one profile page, and that page needs to be populated when the image link is clicked on the description page. Example, you click on short description (displaying some of row 3 info, from database for example)page link, profile page opens, and populates fields with row 3s data. I have the code to display the data on the description page and the profile page. I dont have allot of know how with coding, my code at the moment was done trough Dreamweaver Cs3. That code is working fine and displaying the data in the fields created for them. I would realy appreciate some guidance. This topic has been moved to Ajax Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=343031.0 I've been hacking at this for about 4 hours now.. Throwing the towel in! Any feedback or suggestions please: I'm calling a function like so: <!--START :: Run report and update records --> <p> <form method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>"> <!--<input type="hidden" name="post_var">--> <input type="submit" name="runUpdate" value="Run Update"> </form> </p> <?php if (isset($_POST['runUpdate'])) { updateRecords(); }; ?> <!--END :: Run report and update records --> Here are the function details: <?php function updateRecords() { // START :: Query to replace matches mysql_query("UPDATE orig_codes_1a AS a JOIN old_and_new_codes_1a AS b ON concat(a.orig_code_1, a.orig_code_2) = concat(b.old_code_1, b.old_code_2) SET a.orig_code_1 = b.new_code_1, a.orig_code_2 = b.new_code_2") or die(mysql_error()); // END :: Query to replace matches echo "<p><table border='1' cellpadding='3' width='100%'>"; echo "<tr> <th>Updated Code 1</th> <th>Updated Code 2</th> </tr>"; // START :: While loop - keeps getting the next row until there are no more to get while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { //START :: If to find matching criteria class it w/ bg color if ($row['orig_code_1'] < '10000') { $changedClass = "changedClassCSS"; } else { $changedClass = ""; }; //END :: If to find matching criteria class it w/ bg color //START :: Print out the contents of each row into a table echo "<tr><td class=\"$changedClass\">"; echo $row['orig_code_1']; echo "</td><td class=\"$changedClass\">"; echo $row['orig_code_2']; echo "</td>"; } echo "</table></p>"; //END :: Print out the contents of each row into a table // START // //echo "$tableOutput"; // END // }; ?> I'm getting this error: Notice: Undefined variable: result in C:\wamp\www\php_practice\apps\records_updater_2\functions.php on line 27 Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given in C:\wamp\www\php_practice\apps\records_updater_2\functions.php on line 27 Now what I don't understand is 1) This script works fine (even though the $result is not defined) when all of the code is in one file not being called as a function. And 2) Why the hell would it work as in number 1?? Please please please tell me what I am doing wrong here! Hey guys I am having a bit of a hard time understanding how I can fetch data from my SQL table using AJAX and jQuery, I am sorry if this isn't the right place to post this however I usually get great support here.
I am trying to recreate this filter on the right of the page: http://www.autotrade...arch/used/cars/
So basically I have this code to display the whole MySQL table into a list:
<?php while($row = $results->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { echo ' <div class="listing-container"> <h3 class="model-listing-title clearfix">'.$row["Make"].' '.$row["Model"].' '.$row["Variant"].'</h3> <h3 class="price-listing">£'.number_format($row['Price']).'</h3> </div> <div class="listing-container-spec"> <img src="'.(explode(',', $row["PictureRefs"])[0]).'" class="stock-img-finder"/> <div class="ul-listing-container"> <ul class="overwrite-btstrp-ul"> <li class="diesel-svg list-svg">'.$row["FuelType"].'</li> <li class="saloon-svg list-svg">'.$row["Bodytype"].'</li> <li class="gear-svg list-svg">'.$row["Transmission"].'</li> <li class="color-svg list-svg">'.$row["Colour"].'</li> </ul> </div> <ul class="overwrite-btstrp-ul other-specs-ul h4-style"> <li>Mileage: '.number_format($row["Mileage"]).'</li> <li>Engine size: '.$row["EngineSize"].'cc</li> </ul> <button href="#" class="btn h4-style checked-btn hover-listing-btn"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-ok"></span> History checked </button> <button href="#" class="btn h4-style more-details-btn hover-listing-btn tst-mre-btn"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-list"></span> More details </button> <button href="#" class="btn h4-style test-drive-btn hover-listing-btn tst-mre-btn"><span class="test-drive-glyph"></span> Test drive </button> <h4 class="h4-style listing-photos-count"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-camera"></span> 5 More photos</h4> </div> '; } ?>As you can see I am using a while loop to display the whole contents of the table into lists, this includes vehicle data. I also have this bit of HTML that I will be using as a form to filter the results: <form class="car-finder-container dflt-container"> <h2 class="h2-finder">Car finder</h2> <ul class="toggle-view"> <li class="li-toggle"> <h4 class="h4-finder-toggle">Make<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-plus glyph-plus-toggle"></span></h4> <div class="panel"> <select class="form-control select-box"> <option value="make-any">Make (Any)</option> <option value="two">Two</option> <option value="three">Three</option> <option value="four">Four</option> <option value="five">Five</option> </select> <select class="form-control last-select select-box"> <option value="model-any">Model (Any)</option> <option value="two">Two</option> <option value="three">Three</option> <option value="four">Four</option> <option value="five">Five</option> </select> </div> </li> <li class="li-toggle"> <h4 class="h4-finder-toggle">Body type<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-plus glyph-plus-toggle"></span></h4> <div class="panel"> <input id="four-by-four-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="four-by-four-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">4x4</label> <input id="convertible-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="convertible-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">Convertible</label> <input id="coupe-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="coupe-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">Coupe</label> </div> </li> <li class="li-toggle"> <h4 class="h4-finder-toggle">Transmission<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-plus glyph-plus-toggle"></span></h4> <div class="panel"> <input id="automatic-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="automatic-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">Automatic</label> <input id="manual-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="manual-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">Manual</label> <input id="semi-auto-checkbox" class="float-checkbox" type="checkbox"/> <label for="semi-auto-checkbox" class="label-checkbox">Semi automatic</label> </div> </li> </ul> <button href="#" class="btn btn-block car-search-button btn-lg btn-success"><span class="glyphicon car-search-g glyphicon-search"></span> Search cars </button> <h4 class="h4-finder"><a href="#">Try our Smart Search </a><span class="glyphicon info-car-search-g glyphicon-info-sign"></span></h4> </form>I have noticed that JS and Ajax give a great user experience when it comes to filtering search results, in this HTML template I have added some select elements and check boxes and I am now really stuck. Does anybody know how I can make exceptions to what SQL results are returned to the front end or know of any tutorials? Thanks I am creating a library app (personal dev) and have ran into some trouble. I'm very new to Ajax and Php
I have a page named addEntryISBN which shows the results of a user search in a div named #results. I want to post the contents of #results to my database. The contents of #results comes from a page named searchISBN.
What is the most effective way of doing this? My code so far is aas follows;
addEntryISBN.php
$(document).ready(function() { $('form').on('submit', function (e) { e.preventDefault(); $.ajax({ type: 'post', url: 'searchIsbn.php', data: $('form').serialize(), success: function (result) { $('.result').html(result); } }); return true; }); }); <div class="result"</div> I am trying to implement lazy loading into a project with pagination already set up.
If I was to go to my website and after the .com, type in "api_courselist.php?page=1" I would receive the first 20 results of my query. If I was to change that to page=2, it would retrieve the next 20 and so on.
My issue is I have no idea how to implement that into my java script/ajax file. I have it set up so that when the user scrolls to the bottom of the page, a div will make its self visible with the new page populated inside of it and IT will keep on pulling pages in till There is no more content.
jQuery(function ($) { jQuery(document).ready(function() { var is_loaded = true; jQuery(window).scroll(function() { if(jQuery(window).scrollTop() == jQuery(document).height() - jQuery(window).height()) { jQuery('div#loadMore').show(); if(is_loaded){ is_loaded = false; jQuery.ajax({ url: "api_courselist.php?page=1", success: function(html) { is_loaded = true; if(html){ jQuery("#infiscroll").append(html); jQuery('div#loadMore').hide(); }else{ jQuery('div#loadMore').replaceWith("<center><h1 style='color:red'>End of Content !!!!!!!</h1></center>"); } } }); } } }); }); }); I am running a contact form, which successfully works and sends the info, what I need help with, is when the form is submitted and the email is received this is the message: Code: [Select] Name: Name Appears Here Email: Email of client IP: 123456789 Message: Message content What I would like is to have another variable added to the email so the user whom reads it knows where the message came from, to below message for example From: Blah Here is the contact.php Code: [Select] <?php session_name("fancyform"); session_start(); $_SESSION['n1'] = rand(1,20); $_SESSION['n2'] = rand(1,20); $_SESSION['expect'] = $_SESSION['n1']+$_SESSION['n2']; $str=''; if($_SESSION['errStr']) { $str='<div class="error">'.$_SESSION['errStr'].'</div>'; Finally: // Send the mail using PHPs mail() function mail($to, $subject, $body); header("Location:customize_search.php"); So, this takes the user to a more advanced form after they 'send' the first form. 1 - Is it possible to have the second form autofill with the POSTed data and NOT use MySQL or database whatever? 2 - If so, how?? So basically I am attempting to make my code work with AJAX also to get rid of the page refreshing to the user. It does physically submit the data to the file and write it how it is supposed to be. However the notifications are not working at all. I am not the best at bug shooting JS stuff as I don't use it a lot - but would be grateful if someone can point out where I am going wrong.

I know the form and the php does what it is suppost to do but I can't understand why when i link the whole thing together it doesn't work. As it sits at the moment its just sticking on the loading part of the ajax and refuses to execute the validate in the php file. The problem I have right now is that the e-mail sends only the Name, Email Address, and Phone Number, and it will not send anything for the body or "message" portion. The first code is contact.php Code: [Select] <?php /* Credits: Bit Repository URL: http://www.bitrepository.com/ */ include 'contact_config.php'; session_start(); error_reporting (E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE); $post = (!empty($_POST)) ? true : false; if($post) { include 'functions.php'; $name = stripslashes($_POST['name']); $email = trim($_POST['email']); $phone = stripslashes($_POST['phone']); $subject = stripslashes($_POST['subject']); $message = "Site visitor information: Name: ".$_POST['name'] ." E-mail Address: ".$_POST['email'] ." Phone: ".$_POST['phone'] ." Message: ".$_POST['message']; $error = ''; // Check name if(!$name) { $error .= 'Please enter your First name.<br />'; } // Check email if(!$email) { $error .= 'Please enter an e-mail address.<br />'; } if($email && !ValidateEmail($email)) { $error .= 'Please enter a valid e-mail address.<br />'; } if(isset($_SESSION['captcha_keystring']) && strtolower($_SESSION['captcha_keystring']) != strtolower($_POST['capthca'])) { $error .= "Incorect captcha.<br />"; } if(!$error) { $mail = mail(WEBMASTER_EMAIL, $subject, $message, "From: ".$name." <".$email.">\r\n" ."Reply-To: ".$email."\r\n" ."X-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion()); if($mail) { echo 'OK'; } } else { echo '<div class="notification_error">'.$error.'</div>'; } } ?> and contact_config.php only contain the webmaster's email address. Thank you for your help. I have a form on my website and when the user submits it I want all the server processing to be done using AJAX so the page doesn't refresh. I was wondering what the best way to do this is because if your form has a submit button doesn't that automatically refresh the page? Thanks for any help. I want to perform a php process initiated by AJAX according to the method described in http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_ajax_database.asp with this line Code: [Select] xmlhttp.open("GET","getuser.php?q="+str,true); the php process in getuser.php is initiated. But how I can restrict direct access to getuser.php? If someone visit getuser.php?q=something; the process will be started for "something". I want to run the getuser.php process only and only when it is initiated from my main page. Hey Guys, I've got a section of code that generates a date and time. Any ideas how I can integrate it? I am trying to have an UPDATE query run when I click an image on a web page. I just need to have the image call the function to run the mysql from the corresponding php file. The image is a form object, which I need the php function to recognize when it is clicked, and then run the query(ies) within. I don't really know much php, so the php code is based on a snippet I have from one of my other sites, which works fine over there, but I am missing something here that is keeping it from doing the same here. The page already loads and displays all values in a list associated with $show_id, so that variable is already being pulled from the web page in to the php code. I'm not going to paste the entire books.php file here as there are too many things it does which doesnt have anything to do with this little add-on I am making. I just need to be able to pull that variable in to the query below and have it run when I click on the icon associated with it. The php file also already has the proper config and settings files linked to it that connect to the database, so I do not need to set that up here. It is just a form, calling a function, and running the query. It is also not visible to the user side. It is in an admin page, only visible and accessible to me. This is code I have in the php file: function UpdateAllShowBooks() { if(strlen(($_POST['retired'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '2' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['upcoming'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '37' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['current'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '1' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } } This is the current image/form html: <center><table width=25%> <tr><td valign="top" align="center"> <!--<form method="post" action="books.php?show_id={show_id}">--> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="retired"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Red_Light.png" width="20" name="retired" alt="Set status to Out of Print" title="Set status to Out of Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Out of Print?')"> <input name="shid1" type="hidden" id="shid1" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="upcoming"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Yellow_Light.png" width="20" name="upcoming" alt="Set status to Upcoming Release" title="Set status to Upcoming Release" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Upcoming Release?')"> <input name="shid2" type="hidden" id="shid2" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="current"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Green_Light.png" width="20" name="current" alt="Set status to In Print" title="Set status to In Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to In Print?')"> <input name="shid3" type="hidden" id="shid3" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td></tr> </table></center> So clicking on the form image would call the function with that mysql string and update all items in the list accordingly. At this time, when I click the image, it reloads the page fine, but it is not activating the sql in the function and making the Update occur. Thank you for any help you can provide. I really appreciate it.
