PHP - Query Database According To User Choice

The code below is a function that checks to see if an email address exists in a database, if so it alerts the user. The db has one table and one field. It works fine when there is ONE record! However, if there are > 1 it doesn't work. How can I step through each record and compare it to what the user entered? Of course,  $_POST is the user's value and the db record is the $myAddy value.

Hi,

I've always used PHP code in my websites in a procedural manner as I come from a html/css background. Now that I want to do projects with more complexity I'm thinking I need to approach development in a more Object Oriented fashion.

My question is more a theoretical one. I'm creating a User class and I'm not sure on what is the best practise for putting my functions etc. and where to call them.

My project will have 2 different users (Admin & End User) so is it correct to say that the User class should encapsulate all the functions of both of these users ? By that I mean create/delete/modify user, login & change password/forgotten password functionality rather than having a seperate Login class

Should I only call the database functions within these methods of the user class as opposed to calling them on the php page where the form data is posted ?

For example, if a user logins in and when the form data is posted I currently open a connection, validate data, run the query.
In an OO approach would I have just one User class method thats relevant to a particular page functionality ?
Say, in pseudo code, for handling a login request

I'm trying to write a simple sql query based on returning certain values from a table for that user.

I would like to just beable to include this as a page user.info.php and render it on any page as include to return need values .

First off, let me say that this will not be a public use site.  We want to create a site that allows us to run queries in our database; this way we don't need to log into the MySQL server when ever we want to run a query.

Basically, I am trying to create something as simple as a form with a text-input and a submit button.  In this text-input, we will write a query (such as SELECT * FROM xxxx).  When we hit submit, we would like to have the MySQL table printed out in a large textbox below.

Our database has multiple tables, so something that works across the entire database seamlessly is key.

Has anyone ever made anything like this?  Is there another way to go about this?  We really just want an easy way to run queries on the go.

I built an application for a client of mine using PHPRunner about 3 years ago. It has functioned perfectly right up to today when they notified me that they were unable to Export any records. I have attached the error report that comes up when you run Export function.

According to the report it is unable to find a file or path. I have been on to server with FTP client and all the paths, files and contents are present.

Can anyone please give me any advise on what might suddenly cause this error after many years. All other functionality of the Database is fine.

Spelling error

I would like to be able to add a yes/no to a field in a 'user' database when a logged in user clicks on a link to download a file.
The site I have built stores docs and applications. and my client would like to know which user has downloaded a certain application (clicked on a button to 'download' and installer file.
Is this possible?

i have a database with all are clients data that we store in it. I can now let them log into a php search screen that they can pull data from and see what we have stored. I would like to restrict what info they can pull by the user name they log in with, so they are not pulling other client info when they do the search.  the user database and company database are two different ones.

they search by box number and i would like to restrict what it pulls up by company name depending on if the user logged in has rites to that company info.

so if jane doe logged in and she was a member of soso company when she did a box search she would only see what was from soso company instead of how it is now it pulls from soso, DD, and all the company's.

I just did a massive hardware/software upgrade - first new computer (a Mac) in 6 1/2 years, first MAMP upgrade in several years, etc. I'm now using these software versions: Apache 2.2.21, PHP 5.3.6, MySQL 5.5.9

Just about everything seems to be working fine except my database connections. I appear to be making a simple mistake, but I can't figure out the solution. I've checked out all sorts of online help pages, but I'm only getting more confused.

Rather than ask what the problem is, it might be better to go back to square one and ask how you would write this query from scratch. I pasted my current, somewhat convoluted code below, to give you an idea of how I was doing it.

But here's what I'm trying to do:

Imagine a website with a static page at World: MySite/World. It displays dynamic pages, like these: MySite/World/France, MySite/World/Spain...just as long as "France" or "Spain" match values stored in a database table (gw_geog). In my query, I represent France, Spain and other place names with the variable $MyURL.

So I want to query that database table. If $MyURL = 'Japan' (e.g. MySite/World/Japan), then $result should = 1, fetching a web page. If $result = 0 (e.g. a misspelled URL, like MySite/World/Japax), then it fetches a 404 error page.

If $result = 2 or more (e.g. MySite/World/Georgia - the name of a country and a U.S. state), then it fetches a duplicate note.

I wrote this script years ago, when I didn't know much about PHP/MySQL (I still don't), and I've upgraded my software, so I need to start fresh. Can anyone tell me how YOU would a script to accomplish this task?

This is my first post.  I have tried getting some help on the PHP channel in IRC but people there always point you to a reference page.  I need actual help and example with my code.  Possible someone to show/highlight what I did wrong and then show me the correction.

First, my code is supposed to create a form.  The form (server_select.php) is a pre-populated form that has a drop down box that queries a table from the database.  The form then sends the info to get_disk.php page to post the results of the users selected query options.  Here is how it's supposed to work:

User goes to webpage.tld/index.php.
They click on "Select Server Details" page (server_select.php).
A form gets loaded
User then has to select from the drop down menu's: server, date range from and to and then hit submit
User gets sent to get_disk.php

The get_disk.php is supposed to show them all of the following info from their selected server and date range:
hostname, device name, device size, current usage, remaining size, percentage used, mount point, time stamp.

All of that is supposed to show when they user hits submit.

Issue:

My submit page seems to work but my "get_disk.php" page doesn't seem to know how to query the database correctly.  Attached are both of my files.  Can someone tell me why my query on the get_disk.php page is not working and how I get it to display my requested info, please?

Is it possible to query my database and display results from a varible that changes each time from a users search?

I know how to get results from a variable like a field name and display them but i was wondering if for example; the user searches for criteria and gets the result there looking for (postcode); they then click that result in the browser and are redirected to another page with lots more information.(company_name and location).

There result from the original search would be different each time but i would like to know if i could take that result and display all other fields in my table associated with that one result.

I'm sure this can be done, i'm just getting stuck on how to treat the user's search result. Currently it's called '%$var%'.

Can i use:
