PHP - Event Updater And News Form
So I have no experience with PHP what so ever, I just pretty much learned and copy and paste...
I made my friend a website for his racing, and I manually update his upcoming races and have to go into the .php to add news, etc..
I was wondering if there was a way where the upcoming races could be automatically updated?
Also if there was a way where I could just easily submit a new news article through a forum and post it to the home page directly?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
If you want to take a look at what I mean, the website is bobbykendallracing . com
I am not trying to advertise, or promote anything, just trying to get help with PHP!
Similar Tutorialsas far as everything goes, i have it working but not quite perfect yet... you may assume already what im trying to do, and yes im making a comment box option for each news posting I have. I have it working up to the point of showing comment posts and posting them. But my issue is, anytime i submit a comment for one news post, it will repeat the post for how many news postings i have and will place them in each news posting. so i need some help to prevent this lol. here's my code Code: [Select] <?php //News Code Here $dbtn = 'news'; $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM $dbtn ORDER by id DESC LIMIT 10") or die("query failed: " . msql_error()); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { list($id, $header, $date, $news, $edate) = $row; $news = nl2br($news); $date = date("M j, Y",strtotime("$date")); echo '<table width="680" border="0" cellpadding="14" cellspacing="0">'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td class="newspost">'; echo '<font size="+2"><b>'.$header.'</b></font><font size="-1" color="#CCCCCC"> - '.$date.'</font><br />'; echo '<hr color="#FFFFFF" width="100" align="left" size="1">'; echo ' - '.$news.$edate; echo '</td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td>'; $comres = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM comment WHERE menu_title='$dbtn' AND post_id='$id' ORDER by date DESC") or die("query failed: " . msql_error()); while($rows = mysql_fetch_array($comres)){ list($comid, $menu_title, $post_id, $comdate, $comname, $comment) = $rows; $comment = nl2br($comment); $comdate = date("M j, Y",strtotime("$comdate")); echo 'User: '.$comname.'<br />'; echo ' - '.$comment; echo '<div align="right"><font color="grey">'.$comdate.'</font></div>'; } echo '<a class="show_hide" rel="#slidingDiv_'.$id.'">Comment</a>'; echo '<div id="slidingDiv_'.$id.'" class="toggleDiv" style="display: none;">'; if(isset($_POST["add"])){ $name = $_POST["comname"]; $comment = $_POST["comment"]; $querys = "INSERT INTO comment (menu_title, post_id, date, name, comment) VALUES ('$dbtn', '$id', CURDATE(), '$name', '$comment')"; mysql_query($querys) or die("Error, insert query failed: ".mysql_error()); echo '<br /><br />Thank You!'; } else { echo '<form method="post">'; echo '<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2">'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td align="left" valign="top">Name</td>'; echo '<td align="left" valign="top">Comment</td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td align="left" valign="top"><input name="comname" size="25" type="text" id="comname"></td>'; echo '<td align="left" valign="top"><textarea name="comment" id="comment" cols="40" rows="4"></textarea></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td> </td>'; echo '<td> </td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td> </td>'; echo '<td align="right" valign="top"><input name="add" type="submit" id="add" value="Submit"></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '</table>'; echo '</form>'; echo '</div>'; } echo '</td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '</table>'; } ?> Hi folks, I'm curious if I can for example, save a file from my server and it will save to all other servers - obviously if they accepted the connection first. It's for a software I developed and is almost complete and know there will be frequent updates to it. Instead of users downloading upates, I want the update files from my server to somehow synchronize to their server automatically? Anything called this?? Thanks for info. Hey All! Well, here I am at PHP Freaks mercy again lol. I love this website and everyone here is always so helpful so let's get to my most recent issue. I am developing a pretty simple event registration form, which would be pretty easy in most respects. It will have the following pretty standard fields. Number of people attending: (drop down with 1-10) Name Address City State Zip Email Phone Alternate Phone There will be a few other fields but they aren't relevant. Basically the first field "Number of people attending (drop down 1-10)" will have to create a section with the following fields above for each person's information. If there are 3 people attending then it will need to have 3 sections of all those fields for each person. Making the page dynamically generate those sections on-the-fly when the user selects "3" for example is the first issue I am having. The other issue I am having is how would I handle the information dynamically within the PHP. If there was just one person it would be easy because I could just reference those fields. One solution I have for the second problem that I have some experience with is naming the fields name[] for example. But I still don't have a complete grasp on how to make that fix my problem. I've tried googling for hours but have had no luck, which may be because I'm not sure how to phrase the problem maybe. Any help! Hello, When a user clicks a Submit button on my page, I'm using an onClick event to essentially just disable the button and change the message to 'Saving'. However, when I add the onClick code, the form no longer posts using PHP. The button does indeed change but the postback never occurs. Is there something extra I need to add or do? Thank you!! This is my submit button: Code: [Select] <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Save Changes" onclick="this.disabled=true; this.value='Saving'">|<a href="/">Cancel</a> Then I have the normal PHP stuff for postback which isn't firing.... Code: [Select] //IF POSTBACK if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST') { //DO STUFF HERE } This topic has been moved to PHP Applications. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=330163.0 I have a listener which executes a HTTP request to a remote API before the User entity is persisted and uses the response to set one of the entity's properties. It will also listen for update and remove and will make the appropriate HTTP request to the API but will not modify the entity. All works as desired... Almost. If when persisting the entity, I have some error, the remote API and my application become out of sync. I wish to change my application to perform a second call to the API if an error occurs and reverse the previous call. My thoughts on how to implement a Place a try/catch block when executing the query. Don't like this approach. Add an ExceptionListener which somehow retrieves the entity and makes the applicable changes. Maybe part of the solution, but too complicated to be the full solution. When adding, updating, or deleting a user from the remote API under UserListener's three methods, adding a callback which gets executed upon a PDOException. I think this is the best approach and expanded my thoughts below.
<?php namespace App\EventListener; use Doctrine\Persistence\Event\LifecycleEventArgs; use App\Service\HelpDeskClient; use App\Entity\AbstractUser; final class UserListner { private $helpDeskClient; public function __construct(HelpDeskClient $helpDeskClient) { $this->helpDeskClient = $helpDeskClient; } public function prePersist(AbstractUser $user, LifecycleEventArgs $event) { $this->helpDeskClient->addUser($user); //$user will be updated with the HTTP response } public function preUpdate(AbstractUser $user, LifecycleEventArgs $event) { $this->helpDeskClient->updateUser($user); } public function preRemove (AbstractUser $user, LifecycleEventArgs $event) { $this->helpDeskClient->deleteUser($user); } } Okay, how do I actually do this? Was thinking of modifying UserListner as follows: //... use Symfony\Component\HttpKernel\KernelEvents; final class UserListner { // ... public function prePersist(AbstractUser $user, LifecycleEventArgs $event) { $this->helpDeskClient->addUser($user); $event->getObjectManager()->getEventManager()->addEventListener(KernelEvents::EXCEPTION, function($something) use($user) { // Use $this->helpDeskClient to reverse the changes }); } // Similar for update and remove }
But when trying this approach, I get a PDOException, but my callback never gets excecated. I've also tried replacing KernelEvents::EXCEPTION with '\PDOException' (note the quotes) with no success. Any ideas what I should be doing differently? Maybe some totally different approach? I suppose I could make the request to the API after the DB query is complete for updating and deleting, but not for adding. Before I posted in here about a content management system for posting news. I was wondering how I could make so that when you fill out a form and send all the data to the database, it creates a new page from a template and includes that data within it? I know I asked this before, and some mentioned the _get method, but im using _post to process the form data and have no idea where to integrate the _get method. Here's the form in question: Code: [Select] <form action="http://www.djsmiley.net/cms/news/process.php" method="post" id="news"> <h1>Post New Article</h1> <p>Please fill out all of the following fields:</p> <table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText">Type*:</td> <td><font size="1"> <input name="type" type="text" class="Form1" size="50" /> </font></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText">News Topic/Title*: </td> <td><font size="1"> <input name="title" type="text" class="Form1" size="50" /> </font></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText">Username*:</td> <td><font size="1"> <input name="user" type="text" class="Form1" value="DJ Smiley" size="50" /> </font></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText">Url*:</td> <td><font size="1"> <input name="url" type="text" class="Form1" size="50" /> </font></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText">Message*:</td> <td><font size="1"> <textarea name="message" cols="43" rows="10" class="TextField1"></textarea> </font></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="55" class="cmsNewsformText"> </td> <td><font size="1"> <input name="Submit" type="submit" class="Button1" value="Submit" /> <input name="Submit2" type="reset" class="Button1" value="Reset" /> </font></td> </tr> </table> </form> and here's the code that sends the data from the forms to the database: Code: [Select] <?php $user=$_POST['user']; $title=$_POST['title']; $message=$_POST['message']; $type=$_POST['type']; $url=$_POST['url']; mysql_connect("hostname", "username", "password") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("database") or die(mysql_error()); $sql = sprintf("INSERT INTO mynews (user, title, message, type, url) VALUES ('%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s')", mysql_real_escape_string($user), mysql_real_escape_string($title), mysql_real_escape_string($message), mysql_real_escape_string($type), mysql_real_escape_string($url)); $result = mysql_query($sql); Print "The article has successfully been posted"; ?> can someone help or at least point me in the right direction? Hello All, I am new here so first off hello to you all Right my problem, I am trying to find a way to be able to display news items with comments under them and a form for somebody to write a comment. Like on facebook where a person has a status then comments under it. I have two tables in MySql already, news and newscomments. The way I have linked the tables is by ID, newscomments has a field called News_ID which matches with the ID of a news item. I can get all news items to display however I can't get the comments to display with them. Please could somebody give me a hand with this? Thanks Richard I have manage to create my own script that add news article, however, I would like to add a comment form below the news article. Would you create a new table called "feed" and have a query run everytime someone updates, inserts, etc anything in those three tables? or something else? What would be the most efficient way to code a news feed?
