PHP - Php Search Result Question
To whom it may concern:
I have PHP code that I am trying to improve upon. I want to fix it so that when I put a dash next to a word, the word that is next to a dash is excluded.
I also want to see if it is possible, what would I have to change in my code so that when I search for words or phrases within PDF documents, that I get exactly what I want.
Whenever I have the Exact Phrase radio button enabled, and I type in the phrase Oil Gas Company, three PDF appear, however when I open the links of those PDF documents to search for that phrase, that exact phrase is not there so since it is not there I want to know what I would have to do to fix it so that the 0 matches found appears on my screen?

When it comes to using the dash what I want know is, is it possible to have something like Tax credit -appraisal in the search box and when either the Exact Phrase or the Any Phrase radio is selected it will do the function of both radio buttons but at the same time exclude the word appraisal in its search?
Any Phrase meaning of course it will search for either words in the phrase and bring up PDFs that have either results or both.
I ask these questions because whenever I type into the my search box bank and loans -money while the Exact Phrase radio button is highlighted it is only suppose to return PDF documents that have that exact phrase but without the word money in them. Is this possible with my code.

I have more than 1000 records in my database and while displaying i use Pagination with search criteria. Actually When i give search criteria, its displays defined number of records from database, defined in the same file thru pagination. It shows 2,3,4... number with links. But when i click on 2nd page , it goes to 2nd page but again we need to provide search criteria.
I wan this to display without search criteria.

Could anyone please help about making a search result with links. To be specific, I have a list of names in my database. I want to create a search that will list names with links. Its been 5 hours and cant still figure out how it goes. The following code allows the user to search a word and display the definition results from the database. The problem is the user has to input the identical words only. If the words are not exactly similar to the database words it returns error message. My question is what would be the best way incorporate this into my php file so that I am able to display a limit number link by page so that not all of the results are listed on the same page? If that is even possible.
I'm ready for the next step on my site, which is learning how to filter results down with a second search. The scenario is: A viewer searches for a plant by 4 variables to describe the leaf. After submit, they go to the results page, with 200 paginated results. (This is where I've gotten to) Now, on that same page, they choose to further narrow their results by searching those 200 results for plants that have purple flowers. Maybe they get 40 results and can use another variable to narrow further - and so on. What's the best way to set this up? I've been looking into temporary tables, but it seems to be a challenge because the table deletes the moment they leave that page or close the connection? Sessions seem like another possibility, but I read there's security issues. What's the best way to set this up? Just re-query the database with the entire set of variables from both the first and second searches? is it quicker to build some type of permanent table with a timestamp that I can use to delete it after the user has gone away? I am creating a software for a forum and would like to create a link to search for a tag word that can link to a search that can find the software. The website uses this for search: https://www.website.com/search.php?do=process I figured out this works to put the keyword in the tag box: https://www.website.com/search.php?tag=mysearchword I can't figure out how to combine the two to process the search. Bear with me, as I'm still quite new at PHP. I'm trying to figure out the best way to build a search function for a database that will eventually be quite large. The path of the search I'm building is to go from a straight-forward javascript and html search page, to a paginated search result. Then the user can narrow down those query results based on a new search of their results. In trying to get the pagination to work across several pages(unsuccessfuly, I might add), I've been learning about sessions and temporary tables. But, because the database will be very large, I'm wondering if they are the wrong way. Sessions have a time limit, and temporary tables delete once the connection is closed. Is it possible/feasible to build a permanent table that puts in the search variables, with a unique id and use this to manage the searches, pagination and all that? Then, at some point in the process, I can put code to delete the corresponding row (or even make it a saveable search). Maybe somebody sees where I'm going with this and can describe it better than me? I'm just thinking off the cuff at the moment. Maybe there's some terminology that will help me find a tutorial.
