PHP - Wordpress Php Query
Hi Everybody.
Apologies if I've not posted this in the correct forum, but the following line of WordPress code displays the ‘Title’ of my individual blog posts in the Sidebar.
<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php get_the_title() ? the_title() : the_ID(); ?></a>
Can somebody please help me tweak it so it displays both the ‘Title’ and ‘Subtitle’ of each post please? So far I’ve tried adding the ‘Subtitle’ at the end, like this:
<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php get_the_title() ? the_title() : the_ID(); ?><span class="subtitle"><?php the_subtitle(); ?></span></a>
This works in the sense that both the ‘Title’ and ‘Subtitle’ are displayed (both of which are styled in slightly different colours using a separate CSS file), but while the ‘Title’ changes font colour on mouse-hover, the ‘Subtitle’ doesn’t (I’m guessing because I’ve wrapped it in a span class). What I’m really hoping to do is have the ‘Title’ displayed in one colour and the ‘Subtitle’ in a slightly different colour, but for both ‘Title’ and ‘Subtitle’ to change to the same colour when the mouse hovers over either one of them. I’m still building my site, but you can see the Sidebar as it stands, here http://www.retelevise.com.
I don’t know if this is even possible and have not had any feedback on the WordPress support forum, so was really hoping one of the PHP experts here might be able to help me please? Bear in mind I'm a complete PHP novice.
Thanks,
SN.
Similar TutorialsWorking on a website directory that includes ratings for listed companies. Trying to obtain information from database that would put some companies in a higher category than others. Or at least, I believe that is the approach I should be taking.
There are a few tricky issues.
1. Ratings are their own custom posts but are attached to company pages (parents)
2. Rating values I need to obtain are meta keys (1. total number of ratings & 2. rating average of EACH)
3. Ratings are based on four criteria which are summed and averaged for each rating submitted. As a result, values are rarely single digits such as 4 or 5 but include decimals rounded to 1 place (e.g. 4.8 or 3.5)
Additional info:
Ratings are based on 5-star system (out of 5)
Higher category would be business that achieved at least 10 ratings of 4 or more
Any help appreciated.
I'm working with a Wordpress plugin that uses that google maps api to map multiple markers depending on search terms and proximity. You can set an option so that, regardless of the default proximity when the page loads, ALL markers will first appear. In order to help with performance, the authors decided to limit that option to 250 markers. I need to lift that limit to 5,000 (though I currently only have about 500, I don't want to deal with limits as my markers grow).
Based on a comment made in one of the php files it appears the authors enforce the limit in the query itself so I'm pasting the code for the php file that performs the query. Please let me know if there is something else I should do, if this forum is the wrong place or if I should be posting on pastebin and linking rather than dumping the entire file between code tags. Thanks in advance!

Everything works fine so I wanted to put it into Wordpress. I took the code and placed it into the wordpress page and everything worked just fine except the update function. Here is the tutorial I used. http://www.phpsimple.net/mysql_insert_record.html It is also the part I am having trouble with. I am able to create a record and I am also able to select a record but when I choose "update" the form doesn't load the data. It will outside the website but not inside wordpress. I am hoping this is not vague but because of my inexperience I am not sure what else to say. I will be more than happy to provide any other information you need. Here is my code: // Start MySQL Query for Records $query = "SELECT codes_update_no_join_1b" . "SET orig_code_1 = new_code_1, orig_code_2 = new_code_2" . "WHERE concat(orig_code_1, orig_code_2) = concat(old_code_1, old_code_2)"; $results = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); // End MySQL Query for Records This query runs perfectly fine when run direct as SQL in phpMyAdmin, but throws this error when running in my script??? Why is this??? Code: [Select] You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '= new_code_1, orig_code_2 = new_code_2WHERE concat(orig_code_1, orig_c' at line 1 Hello all,
Based on the suggestion of you wonderful folks here, I went away for a few days (to learn about PDO and Prepared Statements) in order to replace the MySQLi commands in my code. That's gone pretty well thus far...with me having learnt and successfully replaced most of my "bad" code with elegant, SQL-Injection-proof code (or so I hope).
The one-and-only problem I'm having (for now at least) is that I'm having trouble understanding how to execute an UPDATE query within the resultset of a SELECT query (using PDO and prepared statements, of course).
Let me explain (my scenario), and since a picture speaks a thousand words I've also inlcuded a screenshot to show you guys my setup:
In my table I have two columns (which are essentially flags i.e. Y/N), one for "items alreay purchased" and the other for "items to be purchased later". The first flag, if/when set ON (Y) will highlight row(s) in red...and the second flag will highlight row(s) in blue (when set ON).
I initially had four buttons, two each for setting the flags/columns to "Y", and another two to reverse the columns/flags to "N". That was when I had my delete functionality as a separate operation on a separate tab/list item, and that was fine.
Now that I've realized I can include both operations (update and delete) on just the one tab, I've also figured it would be better to pare down those four buttons (into just two), and set them up as a toggle feature i.e. if the value is currently "Y" then the button will set it to "N", and vice versa.
So, looking at my attached picture, if a person selects (using the checkboxes) the first four rows and clicks the first button (labeled "Toggle selected items as Purchased/Not Purchased") then the following must happen:
1. The purchased_flag for rows # 2 and 4 must be switched OFF (set to N)...so they will no longer be highlighted in red.
2. The purchased_flag for row # 3 must be switched ON (set to Y)...so that row will now be highlighted in red.
3. Nothing must be done to rows # 1 and 5 since: a) row 5 was not selected/checked to begin with, and b) row # 1 has its purchase_later_flag set ON (to Y), so it must be skipped over.
Looking at my code below, I'm guessing (and here's where I need the help) that there's something wrong in the code within the section that says "/*** loop through the results/collection of checked items ***/". I've probably made it more complex than it should be, and that's due to the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing (or rather, how I should be doing it), and this has driven me insane for the last 2 days...which prompted me to "throw in the towel" and seek the help of you very helpful and intellegent folks. BTW, I am a newbie at this, so if I could be provided the exact code, that would be most wonderful, and much highly appreciated.
Thanks to you folks, I'm feeling real good (with a great sense of achievement) after having come here and got the great advice to learn PDO and prepared statements.
Just this one nasty little hurdle is stopping me from getting to "end-of-job" on my very first WebApp. BTW, sorry about the long post...this is the best/only way I could clearly explaing my situation.
Cheers guys!

I wish to improve my coding base. Basically when you fill out the register form, it will check for data, then execute the insert query. Also, the query could sometimes be: site.com?var2=formdata&var=1 I would have to produce: site.com?var2=updatedformdata&var=1 Is my only option to further parse the query? I would be indebted if you can help me with that.
Looking Forward. Cheers!
I'm restarting this under a new subject b/c I learned some things after I initially posted and the subject heading is no longer accurate. What would cause this behavior - when I populate session vars from a MYSQL query, they stick, if I populate them from an MSSQL query, they drop. It doesn't matter if I get to the next page using a header redirect or a form submit. I have two session vars I'm loading from a MYSQL query and they remain, the two loaded from MSSQL disappear. I have confirmed that all four session vars are loading ok initially and I can echo them out to the page, but when the application moves to next page via redirect or form submit, the two vars loaded from MSSQL are empty. Any ideas? This topic has been moved to PHP Applications. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=310048.0 Hello nice php experts :-) I've just changed the theme on my wordpress page but wish to add a couple of links to my non-wordpress pages to it. This is the line of code where I wish to add some more links. I'm going to use the page-link class to format the links but I'm not sure where I would add the extra divs in amongst all of those commas and brackets. <?php wp_link_pages( array( 'before' => '<div class="page-link">' . __( 'Pages:', '' ), 'after' => '</div>' ) ); ?> Any help is gratefully accepted. Hi all, I have the following which displays my posts on a wordpress blog <?php $x = 0; while (have_posts()) : the_post(); update_post_caches($posts); $x++; ?> <li<?php if ($x % 2) { } else { echo ' class="right_col"';} ?>> <?php unset($img); if ( current_theme_supports( 'post-thumbnails' ) && has_post_thumbnail() ) { $thumbURL = wp_get_attachment_image_src( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID), '' ); $img = $thumbURL[0]; } else { unset($img); if ($wpzoom_cf_use == 'Yes') { $img = get_post_meta($post->ID, $wpzoom_cf_photo, true); } else { if (!$img) { $img = catch_that_image($post->ID); } } } if ($img) { $img = wpzoom_wpmu($img); ?> <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" rel="bookmark" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><img src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/scripts/timthumb.php?src=<?php echo $img ?>&w=75&h=75&zc=1" alt="<?php the_title(); ?>" /></a><?php } ?> <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a><span class="comm_bubble"><?php comments_popup_link('0', '1', '%', ' ', ' '); ?></span> <span class="meta"><?php the_time("$dateformat $timeformat"); ?> <?php edit_post_link( __('Edit', 'wpzoom'), ' ', ''); ?></span> <?php wpe_excerpt('excerpt_tabs', 'wpe_excerptmore'); ?> </li><?php endwhile; ?> </ul><?php endif; ?> What I would like to do is limit the max posts to 6, but I cant seem to work out a way of doing it! Any pointers? Cheers Hi - I'm using the WP Job Boards plugin for Wordpress. I've been given this code to create a quick search form to place in a widget. I've tried to paste the code in a sidebar widget and apparently after somebody inputs the keyword and location they should be sent to the results page which will show their results, however, it's not doing that, just showing me a 'page cannot be found' result.
Can anybody help me out with correcting the code?
<form action="<?php esc_attr_e(wpjb_link_to("http://www.littlefox...k/etsgroup/jobs")) ?>" method="GET"> What I remember from my college days is that isset check whether the variable has a value set or not and return true or false value.

// Set up the content width value based on the theme's design and stylesheet. How do I incorporate wordpress php usage withing standard php? For example, this is typically the template used for the title in wordpress: Code: [Select] <?php the_title(); ?> How would I show that in php, like: Code: [Select] $title = the_title(); //this doesn't work by the way |
