PHP - Storing Option Value As Variable From Dropdown Without Submit
Hopefully someone can help, firstly i am a newbie at php coding but keen to learn more.
Here is my problem
The database is built correctly with all the information i need, the first part is the dropdown menu which you select a car, next you choose a month and mileage - from there it shall show you the correct price for each one. There is columns for each price, mileage and months i just need to figure out how best to start this thing.
I first started by this
$query = "SELECT DISTINCT Full_Description FROM import";
Similar Tutorialsmysql.php <?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root",""); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("ckeditor",$con); ?> --------------------------------------------------------- add.php <?php include("mysql.php"); if(isset($_POST["button2"])) { $sql="INSERT INTO cktext (section) VALUES ('$_POST[select2]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } ?> ----------------------------------------------------------------- home.php <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action="add.php"> <tr> <td>Section:</td> <td><select name="select2" id="select2"> <option selected="selected" value="MALE">Male</option> <option selected="" value="FEMAIL">FEMAIL</option> </select></td> </tr> <input type="submit" name="button2" id="button2" value="Upload" /> </form> In DATABASE :- cktext table attribute "section" is varchar type. BUT IT RETURN ME BLANK OUTPUT. I'm just attempting to learn how PHP handles things and I can't quite wrap my head around how to apply Selected to the final Option and show the Traits for the Character based on the Selected Option. I understand this might need POST, if it does, I would appreciate a bit of help on how I would set this up as POST since I didn't think a drop down required a submit button. Code: [Select] $character= array (array(Name=>"Barry","Class"=>"Fighter",Level=>1,Str=>10,Dex=>10,"Int"=>10),array(Name=>"Lindehar","Class"=>"Ranger",Level=>1,Str=>10,Dex=>10,"Int"=>10),array(Name=>"Verelden","Class"=>"Mage",Level=>1,Str=>10,Dex=>10,"Int"=>10)); print "Select a Character:<br /><select>"; foreach($character as $array_num) { foreach($array_num as $char_trait=>$trait_value) { if($char_trait==Name) { $selected_value=""; $generated_chars="<option selected=".$selected_value." value='".$char_trait."'>".$char_trait.": ".$trait_value."</option>"; print $generated_chars; if($selected_value=/".$char_trait.": Barry"/") { foreach($char_trait=="Barry") { print "<h4>".$char_trait.": ".$trait_value."</h4>"; } } } } } print "</select><p />"; I am generating a few different reports through mysql querys and displaying tables. I have a mail script that stores html code into a variable called $message. How can I store all of my queried data into the variable $message? Example of one of the three tables I am displaying and I am wanting to store this whole table into the variable $message. Code: [Select] echo"<h3>Margin Less than 15% for $datequery</h3>"; echo"<table border=1 cellpadding=3><tr><td><center><b>Invoice Number</b></center></td><td><center><b>Invoice Date</b></center></td><td><center><b>Customer Number</b></center></td><td><center><b>Company</b></center></td><td><center><b>Margin</b></center></td></tr>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $invoice=$row['INVNO']; $invoicedate=$row['INVDTE']; $customernumber=$row['CUSTNO']; $company=$row['COMPANY']; $invoicetotal=$row['ITOTAL']; $invoicecost=$row['ICOST']; @$ABOVE30= @($invoicecost * 100) / $invoicetotal; @$FINAL30=100 - $ABOVE30; $FINAL30=number_format($FINAL30, 2, '.', ''); IF($FINAL30<="15") { echo "<tr><td><center>$invoice</center></td><td><center>$invoicedate</center></td><td><center>$customernumber</center></td><td><center>$company</center></td><td><center>$FINAL30%</center></td></tr>"; } } echo"</table><hr />"; Hi Guys. I need your help. Is it possible to store results from sql query as a variable. I am basically doing a few joins to get this result and I wanted to know if this was possible. Quote i want to store a value from a database and use it as variable in php code can anyone help me out in this code i want to store value of copies in a php variable and want that it should be more than 0 (zero) for furthur calculations $update_book="update book set copies=copies-1 where bookid='$bookid'"; $result=mysql_query($update_book,$linkID1); if($result) { print "<html><body background=\"header.jpg\"> <p>book successfully subtracted from database</p></body></html>"; } else { print "<html><body background=\"header.jpg\"> <p>problem occured</p></body></html>"; } This seems really straight forward but I can't figure out why it's happening. As a part of an account registration script, I'm randomly generating a password using a function called, generatePassword($length,$strength); I hash the password (md5) before putting it in the database but I also email the non-hashed version to the user. My problem is that each time I call the variable, it generates a new password so the one in the database does not match the one received by the user, $user_password_plain = generatePassword($length,$strength); $user_password = md5($user_password_plain); Is there a different way to store the variable so that I can access it later in the script and it will be the same? I tried using a session variable but that didn't seem to work either. Thanks! Hi, I'll try and keep this brief but it really is a case of searching for needle in a haystack... I've just started working for a UK charity whose main activity is supported by a massive website. Stacks of information sheets, 3 distinct forums (each about the size of Freaks here), numerous blogs, events pages, webinars etc. etc. Essentially, it is an on-line free community that serves the needs of a very sizeable percentage of man and womankind. Like many charities it relies on gratis contributions from those with time or money to spare. I don't have either, but I do believe in what they are doing. The problem is that that the site itself has grown or rather mutated to become a huge data repository, built from a number of contributors with different skills sets and ways of doing things. At the back of it lurks a CMS which staff (a limited number) use to update site content. 95% of the site is in PHP, with a host of other ingredients thrown into the pot (Tiny-MCE, Perl, Ajax, Fancybox, html5, flash, blah and blah). The problem is in the CMS when someone tries to enter a date beyond 2014 there is no option to do so - -.i.e. that's as far as the dropdown goes. I can see the problem but can't find the offending script/files. Anywhere. Here's a snippet from the viewable source for those with keener eyesight:

Hi, I am doing an EDIT user page and would like to check records with a dropdown and then set as selected, please help! <select name="BrokerID" class="small-input"> <option value="Please select an option">Please select a Broker</option> <?php while($row2 = mysql_fetch_array($broker)) { echo '<option name="BrokerID" value="'.$row2['BrokerID'].'">'.$row2['BrokerName'].'</option>'; } ?> </select> Hi, I'm a php newbie, with some mysql experience. I have a mysql database as follows: Database=watch, Table=events - fields id, reportno, sdate, comments What I need is: 1. A dropdown list to display reportno from mysql database. 2. Depending on which reportno I choose, I'd like to open a popup(or separate) page to display the stored information. Tks in advance for any help I have a series of echo statements containing html and php elements. Is it possible to somehow store the following statements in one variable by concatenating and later print that variable. The variable should print out the statements as it is printing now. Code: [Select] <? echo "USER banned:<b>"; echo '<a style="text-decoration: none;" href="'.$forumurl.'1acpanel/user.php?do=edit&u='.$banuserid.'"<fontcolor="#4822aa" face="verdana" size="2">'.$banusername.'</font></a><br>'; echo "</b>USER Banned By:<b>"; echo '<a style="text-decoration: none;" href="'.$forumurl.'1acpanel/user.php?do=edit&u='.$banneruserid.'"><font color="#4822aa" face="verdana" size="2">'.$bannerusername.'</font></a><br>'; echo "</b>Banned on:<b>".$bandate."</b><br>"; echo "Reason:<b>".$reason."</b><br><br>"; ?> Hi there, I am working on a PHP web form and I have a very simple situation I guess, I have a variable named: $MyVal When I do print_r($MyVal); To see whats inside, I get: SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 ) Now I am assigning this variable into a session variable so that I can do calculations with it. So I assign: $_SESSION['MySesVal'] = $MyVal; But after assigning to session variable, when I do my calculations: $finalValue = $_SESSION['MySesVal'] * 4; I get 0. So is it because the actual $MyVal variable has some XML stuff as: SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 ) So what is the right way to properly assign $MyVal variable to a session variable to do calculations. Please reply. All comments and feedbacks are always welcome. Thank you! I have a submit.php file that includes the following jQuery code: <script> [...] request.done(function( json ) { jQuery('input[name=thumbnail-url]').val(json.thumbnail_url); jQuery('input[name=job_title]').val(json.title); jQuery('textarea[name=htmlcode]').val(json.html); [...] </script> I need to remove jQuery('textarea[name=htmlcode]').val(json.html); and pass the "json.html" value into a PHP variable in another php file (functions.php). The code in the functions.php file is already there. The thing i need to do (and i am seriously struggling with it) is placing the value of json.html into a $phpvariable that i can then call from the function.php file. Do you need any more info for this issue? Thanks. so I need to know how to make this drop down include hidden fields in it: Code: [Select] <form id="myform1" method="POST"> <select onchange="document.getElementById('myform1').submit()"> <?php //start the table, and the row. // Query member data from the database and ready it for display $sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM products"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){ $product = $row["product"]; $id =$row["id"]; $price =$row["price"]; ?> <option><input type="text" name="hiddenField2" class="hiddenField2" value="<?php echo $id; ?>" /> <input type="text" name="hiddenField1" class="hiddenField1" value="<?php echo $price; ?>" /><?php echo $product; ?> </option> <?php // start a column } ?> </select> <noscript> <input type="submit" value="Go" id="Submit1" /> </noscript> </form> Kind of like is shown.......so that each option has an id. then I need it to submit to this code: Code: [Select] <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(".myform1").validate({ debug: false, submitHandler: function(form) { // do other stuff for a valid form $.post('process.php', $(".myform1").serialize(), function(data) { $("#price").load("index.php #price");$("#total").load("index.php #total"); }); } }); }); </script> . Can anyone help? I hope this makes sense???? So I have a registration form setup. When the user submits the form it sets session variables for each of the form fields and then checks the database to see if the username is taken. If the username is taken I have the form fields values to display the value of what the user just submitted. This topic has been moved to Ajax Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=331067.0 Hello there, I'm trying to show a picture based on the value that was chosen in the dropdown menu of the page before the submit. Let's say i'm having a drop down form with 3 values: Porsche, BMW, Audi, the form also consists of a button to submit form and some other text fields but these aren't really relevant. So what i want is, you choose whatever car, let's say BMW, fill in all the other data of the form, hit submit, and on the next page it should show a Picture which i define for each car. I hope i explained that somehow understandable. Thanks in advance, Sabine Hi, I have a form with a dropdown Code: [Select] <select name="county" id="county"> <option selected="selected">Choose A County</option> <option value="1">Dublin</option> <option value="2">Westmeath</option> <option value="3">Galway</option> <option value="4">Roscommon</option> </select> What I am trying to do is seperate for example the value '1' and the option 'Dublin'. The results are passed to hidden field on a second form page. This is what I have, but it doesnt seem to be working... Code: [Select] <input type="hidden" name="county" value="<?php echo ($_POST['county']); ?>" /> <input type="hidden" name="county1" value="<?php echo ($_POST['county']); ?>" /> so I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me a pointer in the right direction. I have tried using an array on the processing page to split it but its not working either.. like this: Code: [Select] $county = (float) $_POST['county']; $county1 = in_array($county, array(1, 2, 3, 4)) ? $county : 5; $county1 = $_POST['1']='Dublin'; $county1 = $_POST['2']='Westmeath'; $county1 = $_POST['3']='Galway'; $county1 = $_POST['4']='Roscommon'; $county1 = $_POST['5']='Cork'; I have been trying to get this to work for a few days and I have searched everywhere for the answer, but I can't find it anywhere. I would be so grateful if someone could help me with this and it the last part I need to do before I move on to the next part of my project. Thanking you Eoin |
