PHP - Split Array Every 3 Commas & Return As String?
Hi! So what I'm trying to do is split a multi dimensional array of strings ( each containing 3 strings inside of 1 array ) so I can write the results to a file. So say I had a bunch of strings inside 1 array :

outputs (browser source)...hello world I have a combobox with the "multiple" property. when two items are selected, the combobox "name" property has an array that passes to the $_POST variable. what i would like is those two words to be displayed on the same line. I have tried rtrim($var, "\r\n") but that does nothing. the reason i need them on the same line is because i would change then to "hello, world" and then add them as a mysql query, for example... $query = "SELECT hello, world FROM table... I have the following function, which takes a string with commas in it and attempts remove those commas. The way I have it here is that I use explode to take out the commas, which makes an array, and then iterate through that array to put a string back together without the commas. function tags_to_sort_by( $sortMeta ) { $sortByArray = explode(",", $sortMeta); $sortByCount = count($sortByArray); for ($i = 0; $i < $sortByCount; $i++) { $sortByString += $sortByArray[$i]; } return $sortByString; } What does not work is the following line: $sortByString += $sortByArray[$i]; Somehow that outputs a 0, which I don't understand. It should output something like: arrayItem1 arrayItem2 array3 etc. My question is if there either is an easier way to remove the commas from the original string or what I am doing wrong in this line: $sortByString += $sortByArray[$i]; // I am trying to concatenate each part of the array back into the string. In this case I want users to be able to message multiple other users by entering their names in the following format: user1, user2, user3, user4 and then have php separate those into an array so I can then run them through a foreach(); so they can be sent to the correct users... I've been trying to figure out how to split up strings such as the following: A54a1, 23b, FX49s1, R231z, 77 I would like to split them up and add them to individual arrays that are as follows: index[0] -> alphabetical characters, if any, prior to the first number, if any index[1] -> numerical characters, as a number, up until the following alphabetical character index[2] -> alphabetical character(s), if any index[3] -> numerical characters following the second alphabetical character set, if any So, for example, the above strings would be separated like this: A54a1 == ('A', 54, 'a', 1) 23b == (, 23, 'b',,) FX49s1 == ('FX', 49, 's', 1) R231z == ('R', 231, 'z',,) 77 == (,77,,) I've looked into things like strpos(), but I can't figure how to determine whether a character is alphabetic or numeric. And yes, I am familiar with the function is_numeric(). The best way I can see how to do this, is to run through the database table for these values. Then for each value, put the first and second set of numbers into two respective variables, say $low, $high. Then find those people who are on a particular platform with followers between those two values. So how do I turn $row->followsrange (which might be for example: "2500-5000"), into:
