PHP - Php Problem When No Records From Database

I have a problem .
I 've been trying for a long time to make an update for php mysql to change the data.
but every time I do not manage to make it work with a form.
but it works if I only if I put this ($ sql = "UPDATE users SET username = 'value' WHERE id = 10 " ; )
so it only works when I put the value of the id.

but I want in an html form to indicate what I want to change and what id goes.

but I have tried so long that I do not feel like I so want someone help me.

make the same database and same as my records and make the code and test it if it works show me please

Users fill First name ,Last Name ,Email etc information.

I do not want to create database and table to store this information.

I want to store this information in XML file.

When user will add information then information will be added in XML file.

Any solution for this ?

When a record is added its done via a form and processed via inserts.php.

I need to use the same form but to recall the data (by id) so it can be editted.

Cant work it out though.  Help would be well appreciated!

Why won't the code insert into my database upon submission of data? What am I doing wrong?

First of all excuse me if this topic is inappropriate in this forum. But I think it's rather a PHP problem.

I can't figure out multiple duplicate database records on submitting a form.

The database table have two columns:  the first one 'Id' with AUTO_INCREMENT and the second one 'Name'.

Here's the php code for database insertion and the form:

After submitting the form to itself once I have multiple Name entries with different Ids. The curious thing is that with Chrome browser
I get two duplicate records, with Mozilla - three of them.
Seems like mysql_query runs multiple times.

It works fine when submitting the form to a separate script and not to itself.

Do I miss something? It must be very basic.

I am having trouble showing reports for a given date range. Currently if I specify something like 11/03/2010 to 11/05/2010 I get results for all years within that month and day such as I may get results for 11/03/2008 11/03/2009 11/03/2010 11/04/2008 11/04/2009 11/04/2010 11/05/2008 11/05/2009 11/05/2010.

I am currently returning candidates from a database initially just by the highest candidate id to the lowest... i.e. newest candidates to oldest.

I have introduced a sort feature which works just fine, the problem is I am displaying my results over a few pages using pagination.

The problem arises once I sort my results and then try to click onto the next page of results. Basically it is just resetting the sort as the sort relies on a button being pressed, which obviously isn't happening when the user is trying to get the next page of results.

I'm not sure exactly which section of code would be relevant to this so I have posted the whole script... additionally if you need to take a look at it in action you can do so he

As I say I know the problem is that when the page is changed the value is lost, but I don't have a clue how to solve the problem!

I know this problem comes up a lot but it can be for various reasons so after reading up I can't decide what might be wrong. I'm still learning!
I have a simple php registration form (first name, second name, email address) and every time a user submits an entry a second blank record is created in the MYSQL database after it.

Im needing some help with an update form that I have created using PHP/MySQL. Basically the form is working great (updating records, retrieving records and showing errors) but there is a problem with the errors.

If there are no errors and I edit the existing text input values, the database updates fine. However if I edit the existing text input values and there is an error, the edited input values dont save, they revert back to the values of the database.

I understand why this is happening, its because the text inputs are set to show the values of the database so if i edit the existing values and an error occurs or the page is refreshed, the values revert back to the database values. However id like it so that if any text in the text field have been edited and an error occurs, the text stays to how it is until the user by passes any errors and then the database is updated.

Hopefully this makes sense. I have attached the php page just incase anybody wants to look into it but any help would be much appreciated!

Also, im not looking for someone to just to fix this for me but if someone knows my problem and can guide me in the right direction, that would be great.

i have a script in my game that picks up the output rate of a unit which if there is more than one unit it devides, i have 3 teams and the script picks up team 1 and 2, but any units in team 3 the rate shows 0? 

IE

Hi, if someone could assist me, it would be much appreciated. I have a database website. I generated it using AppGini. Unfortunatly, they haven't answered my emails. What I'm trying to do is change my database to not dynamically load the selected record, but to instead load the direct URL to the record.

(Here is the website address: http://2g2egkxd3.site.aplus.net/updates/bad_view.php)

If you hover above the record, you will see the full URL for that record.

Example: http://2g2egkxd3.site.aplus.net/updates/bad_view.php?SelectedID=Buck%20Allen

But when you click it, it doesn't load that URL into the browser. I'm guessing it dynamically loads it into the page.
The reason I'm trying to do this is because I want to have a social/comment system for each record/prospect and it won't work if the record is dynamically loaded.
