PHP - Calculations Using Form Tables

I am trying to calculate the number of days between dates and have a major problem.  When I try the example below, it gives me exactly 201 days, yet the dates have different times, meaning that a full day is impossible.  If it matters, I am testing via xampp 1.7.3 with php version 5.3.1 with Windows XP.  Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong.  Can daylight savings play a role?

When I output $cp_mark, it comes out as the same value as $cp_markup

Any ideas?

Right I'm going to try and explain what i'm trying to do and i'll post the code i have at the bottom.  Whatever I do I seem to get a new error and I can't get any closer to getting the script right!!!  I give up myself.  There's only so much one man can take!!!!!!!

I have a database with two table.   

Members
owners

Both tables have the same fields for the login section!
username
password (stored in md5 format)
access_level


Now I'm trying to make a script that selects both tables and finds the username.  then checks that the md5 of the password entered into the field is equal to the stored md5 password in the database.

if details are correct it sends the person to the correct page while updating a table called mem_logins with the email of the user loging in as a feild along with the time,
If there is no account at all it sends them to the create account page,
if the access level is equal to 1 or 50 it sends them to the check_email.php

Now I'm very new to php and therefore have most certainly written the script wrong.  I have been tryig to sort the errors for days and now, have given up.  Can anyone help?  Here is the code as it stands and at the minute im getting this error.....

hey all. i previously posted about how i lost all my data so im trying to recreate my form again. after not many replies from my desperate call for help i tried to figure it out on my own, i spent hours and hours going through this forum and others but im just running into brick walls because of my minor knowledge of php (though i do have to say i am picking it up a little!)  my form is short and simple so this shouldnt be too hard but this is what i have come up with.

my tables

All i am needing my form to do is enter records into my movies table, therefore it goes like this:

now the thing here is that the dropdown menu needs to be populated with data from Category.Categories table so i can add that info into category in the movies table. so pretty much it will be sending the ID from Categories table into Category in the Movies and yes they both have the same datatype.

so first things first, although i have tested the code its throwing me a variable error i think on line 30 so i figured that instead of focusing on just the error i should just have everything looked over since i dont have anyone i can turn to about this stuff to make sure i didnt forget any " or { etc..

i am also not sure if the while loop is even needed in form.php, i kind of taylored this code to my own needs. THEN i have the add.php, granted that by some miracle that the form.php is correct i dont know what else i would need to add to it for my dropdown.

i really need this bad and i hope someone can help me you know. if anyone has any ideas for a more simple code please, enlighten me but just give me some good examples because i really am a beginner.  thanks alot.

Hi am in processes of making a bespoke CMS for a project in uni am having a problem with my scrip basically i have three php files i have content which echos out the database tables i wish to edit with a link to an update_content page when u click on that it bring u too update_content.php which allows the user to modifier the content in the tables but when i hit update am getting a Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in line 4 of my update_ac file any help would be great

I am working on a PHP web form and I have a very simple situation I guess, I have a variable named: $MyVal

When I do

print_r($MyVal);
To see whats inside, I get:

SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 )
Now I am assigning this variable into a session variable so that I can do calculations with it.

So I assign:

$_SESSION['MySesVal'] = $MyVal;
But after assigning to session variable, when I do my calculations:

$finalValue = $_SESSION['MySesVal'] * 4;

I get 0. So is it because the actual $MyVal variable has some XML stuff as:

SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 )

So what is the right way to properly assign $MyVal variable to a session variable to do calculations.

Im doing a search system and Im having some problems. I need to search in two tables (news and pages), I already had sucess doing my search system for just one table, but for two tables its not easy to do. I already use a select statment with two tables using UNION because I want to show number of search results, that is number of returned rows of my first sql statment. But now I need to do a select statment that allows me to acess all fields of my news table and all fields of my pages table. I need to acess in my news table this fields: id, title, content, link, date, nViews I need to acess in my pages table this fields: id, title, content, link Im trying to do this also with UNION, but in this case Im not having any row returning. This portion is kind of stumping me. Basically, I have a two tables in this DB: users and users_access_level (Separated for DB normalization)

users: id / username / password / realname / access_level
users_access_level: access_level / access_name

What I'm trying to do, is echo the data onto an HTML table that displays users.username in one table data and then uses the users.access_level to find users_access_level.access_name and echo into the following table data, I would prefer not to use multiple queries if possible or nested queries.

Example row for users: 1234 / tmac / password / tmac / 99
Example row for users_access_level: 99 / Admin

Using the examples above, I would want the output to appear as such:

Username: Access Name: Tmac Admin
I am not 100% sure where to start with this, but I pick up quickly, I just need a nudge in the right direction.

The code I attempted to create just shows my lack of knowledge of joining tables, but I'll post it if you want to see that I did at least make an effort to code this myself.

I am trying to write some data from multiple SQL tables to a page. In the first table is a list of places. I then have more tables that are named after the different places. For example, say my first place in the list is called Place1. I have a table named Place1 with data that corresponds to place1. The data contained in the table named Place1 is a list of things to do in this place. It has 21 columns and each one is something to do in the morning, afternoon, and at night for each day of the week in the place Place1. What I am trying to do is display a sort of weekly calendar as a table on a webpage that lists all of the places in one column and then lists seven days of the week as 7 more columns. Then in each data cell I would want to list the things to do in the morning, afternoon and at night for the certain day of the week and for the place. The problem is that I am creating a CMS to allow other users with no coding knowledge to update events for other places, so I have to display data that could have been altered.

The only solution I know of is to do a while loop that gets all of the place names and while there are still place names, write the place names to the page and set a variable equal to the place name. Inside the while loop I would create another while loop that each time the first while loop is executed uses the variable set in the first while loop to know which table to reference and then make a call to that table pulling out the 21 columns and writing them to the page. Each time the outer while loop executes, it would (hopefully) write the place name, and then set the variable as the current place name so that the inner while loop uses the variable to write the rest of the information about that place.

I don't know if that would even work and if it did, I know it cannot be the best way to do this. I am pretty stuck here and don't really have a good solution so if anyone proposes a solution that is radically different to anything I have done, I am open to everything. Thank you!
