PHP - Legacy Code Base Include Issue

Hi:

1.I have some scripts in  a dir of my root directory that i wanted to move to a subdir in it .
 
2.So i created a dir "Set1" and moved them there.

3.Now each of these files has an include at the top which contains db info and another which contains session info etc).

4.After redirecting to the new location I modified the include as under and got errors - as listed below.
 
5.It appears that when a script in the new location is to be processed, it cannot find the db info.
 
6.It searches for the db info in the subdir and not in the main dir.
 
I tried fiddling with the ../ stuff but havent succeeded. Any pointers please ?

I think this is a simple question, but I'm just starting out and can't figure out how to do this exactly.

I'm making a demo site for a flower shop. The structure is as such (only listing the particular files in question - once this is done, the rest will be easy)

index.php -> inc_show_colors.php -> showColors.php

The index is to be standard through the site, loading include files into a main content area.  Clicking on a link loads inc_by_color.php (index.php -> index.php?page=by_color )

From there, one of the four colors is selected.

showColors.php contains switch statements for each color. I want to load showColors.php into the main content window when a color is selected, and I need to have it work for all four colors. I'm not sure how to do this, as you can't pass a variable to an include from what I understand.

What's the easiest way to go about this? Keep in mind this is an intro class and "best practices" are not necessary yet, just the simplest solution to get it working.

 I want each of these colors to link to another include file, which will load in its place in index.php.

inc_by_color.php:
The first link I tried doing in the way I thought would work, but it doesn't. It can't find the include file.
The second one works, kind of - but it just loads the page by itself, not into the maincontent div in index.php.

I realize that showColors.php is probably a really messy way of doing this, but I just need to get it functioning ASAP for now.

This is fairly urgent, so I appreciate any help anybody can give me ASAP.

I recently upgraded from PHP 4 to 5 and now certain "include" code is not working on my site. Here's an example:

Let's say the above code was in a PHP file called "frontpage.php". It used to be that if a person went to "mydomain.com/frontpage.php?topic=page1" then the page called for in the above code would include the content of "page1.php" in "frontpage.php".

It's no longer working. Any ideas why or how to fix it?

Any better way of doing this?

In my code

include_once "http://myserver.com/someFile.php" does not work but
include_once "/someFile.php" works

I NEED to be able to full URL. Anyone know what PHP setting I need to change to get this working for me?

In an earlier thread of mine this week, I think you - or maybe it was @Psycho - suggested putting my code which create an array of my photo files into an include file.

I think the logic was that then when either my "photo-gallery.php" OR "photo-detils.php" scripts call that code, that the array will always synched because it is the same array.

Ring a bell?

So super newbie question, but I am rusty on includes...  How does this sound...

 

1.) Create an "/includes/retrieve-photos.php" script?

 

2.) Reference that in each script, I would do this...

	require_once('../../includes/retrieve-photos.php
	

right?

 

3.) To use that code, I would then just reference the populated array...

	foreach($photoFiles as $photoKey => $photoValue){
	 
	}

Hi all,
I am a bit of a noob when it comes to website building and php etc so please have patients with me I am learnig as I go.

I have come across this problem before and cannot remember what I did to fix it but any way it is presenting its self to me again.

I have other websites that this method of coding is working fine on for example here is another of my websites:

The PHP code sends me an email from the server, but the user input is empty or "blank". I only receive: "From: \ Email: \ Subject: \ Message: " and that's it.

How do I fix my PHP and/or HTML code to receive user input from the form? Attached is my existing HTML and PHP code that doesn't send me any "user input" from the form.

I am attempting to get the base URL of the directory that the CMS was installed, not the main directory. Here's what I mean:

For example, let's say my domain is http://www.example.com but I install my CMS under http://www.example.com/test/cms and on another occasion I install it under http://www.example.com/cms, and on another occasion http://www.example.com/my/new/cms/

I would like my base url for the http://www.example.com/cms installation, to be "http://www.example.com/cms" and my base url for the http://www.example.com/test/cms installation to be "http://www.example.com/test/cms" and so on, without me having to manually change anything.

How do I go about obtaining the directory that corresponds to that particular installation? I know it is possible because Joomla does it automatically.

I have already tried numerous combinations using $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'], $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], $_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'], and so on, no luck.

Hello First of all thanks for your help in advance. I build a members website and can use HTML but seem to be going round in circles with php.
So Ive made a page that allows users to input there details and register this DOES Work and adds the data to a mysql data base. Once this is done I would like to be able to see on a admin page that has a username and password  to allow me to active and deactive there members. I dont seem to be able to see data from the Database on mysql but i can interact with it.
As one you register if you try to log in it say that the username and passwodr is incorrect. I TAKE IT IS BECAUSE THE USER DOES NOT HAVE PERMISSION> how do i do this? Any way if you go to forot password page it allows you to enter data and on submittion it chz the database and then sends you an email with your username and password attached. My goal was to create a constant that could be included on the pages, that no matter where it was located in the structure, would be able to find the template files, css, images, etc.  using the following code:

I put the above in a variables.php file that is in the includes folder (named incs) and I call it using the typical include statement.

The problem is that when I use the constant to grab the CSS file, its not working when using:

I can view the page source and it has the path right, but I cannot figure out how to get it to actually pull in the css file.  I know the echo command is not correct, at least I dont think it is, but have not been able to figure out any other way.

Also, is there a better way to define the constants to the file locations and have it automatically detect whether its on the test server or production and then be able to reference those locations no matter where it is in the structure?

Basically i have a php script installed that produces an RSS feed for me to use with google base. There is a little problem were it does not pull the sale price(known as special)  into googlebase and it will instead show the original price. I have identified what needs to be changed but i dont know the correct syntax.


I somehow need to get something similar to the following IF ELSE into the code below (this is taken from the same php script that shows the special price on the actual rss feed)

The <g:price> is what googlebase reads to get the price of the product. The problem seems to be that there is no if else statement here to output the special price if there is one.

The "\fs13" is simply a font size that will tell the system what font size to use.   <ad-content type="rtf">ZGZnIGRmZyBkZmcgZGZnIGRmZyBkZmcgZGZnIGRmZyBkZmcgZGZnIGRmZyBkZmcgZGZnIGQ=</ad-content>   I'm also trying to encode an additional field within the "ad-content type".
