PHP - $session Problem With Remove Data Function

Hey All,

I have a sessions table that is used to see if a user is online.  It only gets deleted when they click the Logout button.  What I need to do is have it so it gets deleted even if they close the browser.

Should I add a column in the sessions table with a time stamp and check on each page for every user to make sure its great than 30 min?

Is there a better way to do this, without so many queries?

When I remove 1 session item using this it works fine when I select more than 1 item to be removed I get unexpected results, I have checked the outputted html to see what positions get echoed into the remove check box and they are correct, so I guess the problem lies in my remove code

I am using a form with checkboxes named remove[$remove_position] and the positions in the form are correct for each item in the array, but when I select more than 1 item to delete they are not always the correct items only the first 1 selected.
What am I doing wrong here??

Having problems at line 19 mysql_num_rows functions is not working it seems it is not suitable for an insert. What function I could use in there.

Hello everyone!

I've been on a problem a few hours now and I've managed to finally find the solution however I feel it's very inefficient and am looking for a way to do this in a better way.

I have a textarea where each line is inserted into MySQL database table "lines" and I have the columns "line_number" and "row".

The textarea initial value on page load is simply a list of all lines ordered by line_number in ASC order.

If I modify/add/remove entries from the textarea it will remove data changed and add new data accordingly.

But I am making a lot of queries to do this and I'm not sure if there is a more efficient way than querying each line in the database to find the new value/modified value.

Here's my php script, hopefully this makes sense:

So basically what I'm asking is, am I doing this the right way?

I would have over 10,000 lines that would be altered every hour in this table and am unsure if I'm doing it the correct way

I like to use $_REQUEST to get something from either $_POST or $_GET. Annoying though, it also includes values from cookie, like the PHP session id, FCK editor cookies and the google tracking code. Is there anyway to remove cookie values from request, besides looping through cookie and unsetting the values I don't want?

I have a query that gets staff on a particular day then performs a while loop selecting each member that works on that day and the times they work between.
I have a for loop in that while loop that lists apointment times for each staff member every 15mins between the times they work, this works fine.
I then have in the for loop a while loop that checks for existing appontments in the appointment table and changes the appointment slot for times that are booked to booked.
I have found though that the second while loops causes doubling of results when an appointment is found, so I need to work out how to restructure this code so that i dont get the doubling effect of result.

The web application should allow the user to view the items in a catalogue, add items to a shopping cart, remove items from the shopping cart, and to view the contents of the shopping cart.

Hey guys.
Right ill try explain as best i can.
Basicly we were told to write a php script that can view a shopping cart.

The items in the catalogue should be stored as an array of objects. (The next assignment will require you to store this list of objects in a database). There should also be pages to allow the user to add, edit and delete items in the catalogue.

Thats taken from a brief.Ive spent the most of the week getting it to view a catalog and now it can add items.view the cart its added them to and remove them from the cart and return.
What im having trouble with is making the add function for the the other users or admin* to add/edit/delete.i reckoned adding and deleting wouldnt be so bad considering ive alrready done so.But im kinda stumped on how to do it.i think what the brief wanted was a seprate product add that would actully let u add another product to the cart list on the same page and then u can add that to the shopping basket etc.

Yea real stumped.if only it was through sql it would be so much handier.

I'm using the codeigniter mvc framework and there's an escape function to use before adding the data to the database. This function adds single quotes around the string of data. Is there any already existing php function or does anyone know how to code a function that strips ONLY the surrounding single quotes?

I have sen this function before but can not remember what it is or how to code it. It allows you remove only defined characters from the end of the string. I am not looking to replace any occurrence anywhere in the phrase, just the end.

For example lets say I want to remove"ld!" from phrase "Hello World!" That function would return "Hello Wor"

What I am tryting to do is when a user logs into my site and starts a session I would like to display some information about that user. The information displayed needs to be dynamic as this site will only have a few users buy I dont users viewing other users information.

merry christmas everybody   i have shopping basket, i put many items in it per session. i want get the heighst shipping1 value from session but i dont know how. i tryed last 3 day without success. now i get the following value for shipping1 2 3.90 5 6.90   but i see only 6.90 as it is the heighst shipping1 in basket.   thank you very much for your help   here is my code

Hi, I have stored user data in the database, but I think I need to somehow grab the "id" of the username, and use that in a SESSION when they log in, so that I can pull up the user information in the database for that particular user when they log in. and do that for everyone when they log in. My idea is


user logs in

Something like "grab the user "id" linked to this user, and add that value to "$currentUser",

then somehow when it is time to show their user profile page, I do something like

"display all field data where username=$currentUser.


I don't know I am confused, any help plus code would be great if anyone can help, or just the pseudocode would be good. I hope I explained it right. thanks.
