PHP - Click A Form Image, Run A Query
I am trying to have an UPDATE query run when I click an image on a web page. I just need to have the image call the function to run the mysql from the corresponding php file. The image is a form object, which I need the php function to recognize when it is clicked, and then run the query(ies) within. I don't really know much php, so the php code is based on a snippet I have from one of my other sites, which works fine over there, but I am missing something here that is keeping it from doing the same here. The page already loads and displays all values in a list associated with $show_id, so that variable is already being pulled from the web page in to the php code. I'm not going to paste the entire books.php file here as there are too many things it does which doesnt have anything to do with this little add-on I am making. I just need to be able to pull that variable in to the query below and have it run when I click on the icon associated with it. The php file also already has the proper config and settings files linked to it that connect to the database, so I do not need to set that up here. It is just a form, calling a function, and running the query. It is also not visible to the user side. It is in an admin page, only visible and accessible to me. This is code I have in the php file: function UpdateAllShowBooks() { if(strlen(($_POST['retired'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '2' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['upcoming'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '37' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['current'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '1' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } } This is the current image/form html: <center><table width=25%> <tr><td valign="top" align="center"> <!--<form method="post" action="books.php?show_id={show_id}">--> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="retired"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Red_Light.png" width="20" name="retired" alt="Set status to Out of Print" title="Set status to Out of Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Out of Print?')"> <input name="shid1" type="hidden" id="shid1" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="upcoming"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Yellow_Light.png" width="20" name="upcoming" alt="Set status to Upcoming Release" title="Set status to Upcoming Release" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Upcoming Release?')"> <input name="shid2" type="hidden" id="shid2" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="current"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Green_Light.png" width="20" name="current" alt="Set status to In Print" title="Set status to In Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to In Print?')"> <input name="shid3" type="hidden" id="shid3" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td></tr> </table></center> So clicking on the form image would call the function with that mysql string and update all items in the list accordingly. At this time, when I click the image, it reloads the page fine, but it is not activating the sql in the function and making the Update occur. Thank you for any help you can provide. I really appreciate it. Similar Tutorialsokay so for my final project for my php class we have to build a video management system. I've got video upload, viewing, and user registration working, and the videos display themselves in my playlist using this code posted below. I have a mySQL database with 4 fields (id;name;description;url), what i would like to do is name the div to be opened on click with the 'id' field from the database so that it would become '<div id="id"> and then more than one function could be implemented on each page. I would also like to replace '...text to be displayed here' with the field 'name' from the database and '...url' with the field 'url from the database. Any help would be very much appreciated. I have posted this problem in the PHP section but someone suggested I take it here because the hangup is likely in the JS. I have tried removing the JS validator with varying results; sometimes the form still requires double-clicking and sometimes it works fine. Please see my original post below:
Hello all,
I am an absolute beginner when it comes to PHP and Javascript but wanted a simple contact form for my website. I used the PHP code from one source and the Javascript validator code from another source and all is working fine except for one very annoying bug: I have to press the Submit button twice in order for the form to send the email. I've found that if the validator is already triggered, however, I only need to press the button once for it to submit. I have scoured the internet for a solution to this problem but am realizing this must be a hangup in the particular code I'm using and I'm just not experienced enough to troubleshoot it.
A little help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Here's the client side code (truncated to only show relevant parts):
<html> <head> <script src="js/gen_validatorv4.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <form method="post" action="contact.php" name="contactform"> <div class="row collapse-at-2 half"> <div class="6u"> <input name="name" placeholder="Name" type="text" /> </div> <div class="6u"> <input name="email" placeholder="Email" type="text" /> </div> </div> <div class="row half"> <div class="12u"> <textarea name="message" placeholder="Message"></textarea> </div> </div> <div class="row half"> <div class="12u"> <ul class="actions"> <li><input type="submit" value="Send Message" /></li> <li><input type="reset" value="Clear form" /></li> </ul> </div> </div> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> var myformValidator = new Validator("contactform"); myformValidator.addValidation("name","req", "Please provide your name."); myformValidator.addValidation("email","req", "Please provide your email."); myformValidator.addValidation("message","req", "Please enter your message."); myformValidator.addValidation("email","email", "Please enter a valid email address."); </script> </body> </html> When I click on the letter of the alphabet on my form page, it will bring up the results of my query. I got this part working. The next part is to be able to click on any of the populated results and have it autofill my form with organization, first name, last name, email address and phone number.
I know that I need to use Ajax and jQuery to accomplish this.
Here is my html

I'm not solid on the Ajax part. That is the part that is tripping me up. I know that I need to make the form autofill when clicking on a specific result returned from my query... but i'm not sure how to do that. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give!! I have searched many times, and in all the multitude of search results I have still never found an adequate usable answer. The MOST you ever find is someone saying how easy it is with PHP, but they don’t tell you how, even when the person they are answering asks them (odd). You can be that one in a billion person who finally answers it for real and helps someone out. I have a simple HTML form with data fields first_name, last_name, email, phone, country, a few hidden inputs, and a single submit button, like so: (Please note: the method is GET, not Post.) <form action="https://MyDomainOnMyServer.com/MyPHPScript.php”> <input type="text" name="first_name" value="" /> <input type="text" name="last_name" value="" /> <input type="text" name="email" value="" /> <input type="text" name="phone" value="" /> <input type="hidden" name="type" value="type123"> <input type="hidden" name="project" value="new123"> <select required name="country"> <option value="">Choose your country</option> <option value="US">United States</option> <option value="CA">Canada</option> <option value="GB">United Kingdom</option> <option value="Many More">Many More Countries</option> </select> <input type="submit" value="Submit Form" /> </form> NOTE: Originally, the form action would have been: action="https://TheirExampleDomainOnTheirRemoteServer.com/TheirRemotePHPScript.php" name="form1234" Upon clicking the single submit button only, what I need to have happen is this: 1. Send me an email to whatever@whatever.tld containing all the form submission data 2. Place the form submission data into a MySQL database having the corresponding data fields 3. Send the form submission contents including the hidden input values to "https://TheirExampleDomainOnTheirRemoteServer.com/TheirRemotePHPScript.php" name="form1234" AS IF that had remained set as the original form action to begin with So basically what I’m trying to obtain is the cleanest possible PHP script that will do those three things, which is essentially what others have asked for over the years in search results I have found, but no one has ever provided it in a clear instance that works. If I can just see such a script, I should be able to see how it works and then do what I need. Thanks. Hi Members,
I am search for the reason for the problem why my mysql query cannot fetch data and store in file based on id in $variable form. For example, $sql="SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE mine_id='1234'"; works for me. But when i use $sql="SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE mine_id='$id'";, files are created as empty. I chanaged the quotes and could not store the data in file. So anyone please help me.

Hello all,
I am completely sideways right now trying to get this to work. Basically I am attempting to make a form that fetches results based on a drop down and then populates a text box that the user can then edit. I have several issues, first of all, I would have to use check boxes for if a user has a certain file on record. Which would be editable, however, I have had issues displaying tinyint values of -1 as true and 0 as false.
Secondly, writing the data back to the table after clicking a submit button, I have still issues with checkboxes here and am thoroughly confused to if I need to use an array or what here.
Thirdly, should I be using PDO or mysql for this? We have an older NAS device that I will be running this on and the firmware is older.
All the info is stored in the same table, and would be selecting a single record at a time for a user to edit. I was thinking I would just write back ALL values to the table when submit is clicked? Is that a bad idea?
As you can tell I just need someone to kick my butt in the right direction, I feel like I have read all the different ways to skin a cat but confused myself in the process.
Thanks
I'm having a few issues with a serach function in Internet Explorer, it works fine in firefox which is very annoying. What basically is happening, is the a form is sumbitting and posting info across, but on itself and then this is transfered into a php variable which is used on the query. Default values have been assigned if the isset of the form is not true. So I believe the issue is occuring on the " if(isset($_POST['submit'])) " but as stated it works perfectly fine in firefox.
