PHP - Updating Using Name/value Pairs

I need some help getting started in writing the php code that would import a text file of name/value pairs and then create an html table with those values.

The datafile looks something like this: [number]-[attribute]=[value];

Let's say I have an html table:

I've looked around all day at various samples. I've seen the fgetcsv function. I'm not sure what would be the best approach to load this into data into a table. Using a regex, then load into array or hash and then print this out? I'm assuming i would have to create print statements to produce the html tags.

Also, with the sample records I provided. There will be instances where not all the attributes (1-7) have values.
So, i'm envisioning empty cells for that record which is fine.

I can also change the way the datafile is generated and remove the [number], so its just [attribute]=[value] if that makes it easier.

Is there a good mapping technique for this? Thank you for your help.

Hey, i have made a silly little tester game just to see if i could, its he http://www.zephni.com/test/pairs its for some guy who is attending college and he was given the assignment to make a game of pairs using PHP to sort the cards and lay them down, and javascript to handle the actual game.

Anyway at the moment, my game sorts out the cards as if they are values from 1 to 52, and picks randomly 18 cards from them. During the game, the cards have to be excatly the same, as in:

      win pair
}

that means that both cards would have to be the same number AND suit. But in pairs you have to pick the same number but obviously in a different suit. Any way I have been trying some diff code to pick 18 cards from the pack. It picks 9, and then doubles them up but +'s 13 to the card so it is the same number card.

I would of thought that when you unset the number from $card_sort that was picked it would'nt choose it again if($pick_card !== null) but it still chooses the same card twice sometimes. I know I really havent explained this well, but i did my best for 9am...

So, I am making a CMS for my school and I am having some trouble.

It's a magazine sort of CMS and what I want is that when you click on a certain thing it continues onto the next page. Through the CMS you can create pages - when you do this each page gets a unique PID. To access the pages you have to enter the PID on the end of the URL, e.g. : http://www.myschool.com/magazine/index.php?pid=x. What I need is a code that when an image gets clicked the PID number in the URL goes up by one.

OK, i have just been told i should start using PDO instead of mysql to update my tables. This code works to delete the order but doesn't update the feeds section.   All this is new to me so far and i think i am getting the hang of it. Should i still be using the quantity=quantity-:quantity or is there another way to do it with PDO?     Sorry, i posted this in the wrong forum. Hope someone here can help until it's moved

what i am trying to do is take the value of href_parts and add the new href of the page to the existing value on the href_parts and update the href_parts field in my db.. but i am not getting the desired results.. all i am getting in the db is the last value that is passed in the loop in the db.. i want to save the values which are exisiting in the db and add the newly created values to itt.. can anyone help please..

I'm using php to access the mysql database using mysqli and I have a field on my table called "timestamp" and it's set as a timestamp and has current_time (I think in phpmyadmin it was a tick option so I clicked it) and when I update that row in my table the field "timestamp" doesn't update with the timestamp from when it was last updated/modified. I thought the field option timestamp automatically did that? I'm guessing not.. is there a way I can update the timestamp with the current time in my query?

This executes with no errors but it is not updating the db. I have previously verified that the record exists.

I can't get my form to update the database with user personal information. Any help greatly appreciated. Upon submitting the form, it just reloads the page, no information added to the DB. I used the update statement because I want the users to be able to update the info at a later date. Not sure if that was the right thing to do. thank you.

Does anyone have any experience of using PHP to transfer data from an XML file to a MySQL database?

For the last 5 weeks I have been trying to get the following code to work but I am still unable to do it.

The code does copy the file from my root folder into another (I eventually plan to use external download onto my server).  However, it comes up with the following error:

"Cannot instantiate non-existent class: xmlreader in" which refers to this: $xmlReader = new XMLReader();

Does anyone have any experience of transferring data from an XML file to a database? I am using PHP 5 so I dont know why this doesn't work.

Okay, I have a useredit page in where a user can manage their account info. All the text field and SQL connections work fine, and they all update perfectly. But when I go ahead and add my own text field (first name) and hit submit, it says success - but in my SQL it hasn't actually updated ... What the Ef?

The two lines with the Comments on " // *** This Line *** " are the parts I've got a problem with.

When a User is either despositing or Withdrawing there money it says there isn't enouth Money in the Bank, or that they don't have enouth Money, even when they have enouth.

Anyone see why its saying the Error?

say i create a query  SELECT * FROM movies WHERE Category="1"

and it gave me all the movies from my table that is in the comedy category which should
look like this:

            etc..

  How can i add a drop down menu beside each movie listed in that result that would let me
change the category for it and save it ? like this,

being a newbie im going to guess that i will need a INSERT in here somewhere and not really sure how i would write my result echos. i have been trying all kinds of "update records" forms and cant get them right so i figured it may be easier to just try and create my own. if i could get some example or if you have more simple suggestions
