PHP - Reading Between Two Lines In Text File

Extremely new here and to PHP and I have exhausted my newbie resources and my brain on this one.   

Concept: Cron Job to INSERT 5 lines per hour (Not the whole list at once)
Script to read a pipe delimited text file (about 5k Lines) Open File Get last (bottom) 5 lines of file, ignore the rest Insert those 5 lines into my database Open File, Remove last (bottom) 5 lines
I am able to do parts 1-3 but not part 4 (removing last 5 lines) Please help me!

I understand the 'concept' but am unable to grasp the code! I have tried many snippets and really need help.

And I'm attempting to pull ONLY the tracking number and reference number (or order #) from this file. I've been able to get rid of the empty lines, get rid of the first few lines I don't need and grab just tracking and reference numbers , but I can' t figure out how to get rid of of the last few lines....here's my code:

Okay I don't mind telling you I am very perplexed on how to read a text file delimited with TAB into a HTML Table using PHP. I don't know where to begin, I have read about 12 examples and get more confused each time. I hope someone can help me. I am looking to read this delimited (TAB) file skipping the first line and reading array's 2,5,6,7,8,9, and 10, then displaying in a HTML Table. Corresponding Headers would be nice. I am trying to print out rows of images and pieces them to form a bigger map  but having a little trouble printing out correctly.

I am doing the following...

A numbered text file with rows of numbers like these:

Please excuse my lack of knowledge in advance, I'm a beginner but pick things up relatively quickly, and tend to do things by trial and error.

I would like to retrieve two pieces of data from a "text file" and use them to calculate a result from a function I have in javascript. An example of the javascript code is:

Currently this is evaluated with entry from a simple html form, but I would like to have this performed "automatically".

I would like to extract the "air_temp" and "rel_hum" values under the [data] section for use in my function. I just need the "most recent" values (i.e. first), not all those contained in the file. This is a single record from that section (sorry for the mess this no doubt makes):

Would it be possible to obtain these values using PHP?, and if so any advice on how this could be done (noting my minimal knowledge) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm testing out small bits of code for myself, and I'm trying to understand why this isn't coming out how I would imagine it to...

I have my function which stores colors in an array from a text file, then I return back a random color from my array like so...

And now in the main program, I simply have this:

For some reason though, my switch statement always reads the default case, making me assume that the words "blue" "red" "green" etc... aren't matching up to what I have set the cases at. When I output what color is actually being read, it displays exactly as it should, so I don't understand why the case "red" isn't opening up when that color is chosen, or same with any of the other colors.

Is there some small conflict I'm unaware of in this tiny practice code? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Well, im a n00b for php, and what i need is a php script which will read data from .xml file and write it into .txt file. Can someone help me?

 Thanks ahead of time, I have been working this all week end but get lost....
    a.  I want to insert all the lines from file1.txt into file2.txt .
    b.  I want the all lines in file1.txt to be inserted in file2.txt starting at "<image>"   tag label in file2.txt.
    c. I would like to overwrite all lines that start with the "<image>" tag in file2.txt with the insert (text in file1.txt contains <image> tag also).
 
 file2.txt has lines above  and below the insert point <image>.   The insert text (file1.txt) could be as many as twenty lines (records) all/each beginning with the<image>tag.

I am trying to write a program that will open each webpage one at a time, look for a unique word such as 'FREE' and if it is found the write the URL to a file, if not then no output and the next webpage is opened. I know this word exists only on one of the pages above (http://www.mercurymagazines.com/pr1/101/101396).

When http://www.mercurymagazines.com/pr1/101/101396 appears last in the list located in source.txt the programs WORKS.
When http://www.mercurymagazines.com/pr1/101/101396 appears in any other position such as first, or second, the program does NOT work.

My head is sore from banging against my desk. Any assistance would be appreciated.

hey guys im tyring to read my directory (whole of the web server)...i want to be able to put the file name and root into an array...im just wanting to know whats the best function i need to do this please?...thank you

i have this script where the user enters their name and their favorite quotes.  It adds their favorite quotes and their names to quotes.txt and prints out their name and their quotes on view_quote.php.  I need to use a foreach() loop to print out the name and the quotes, but I'm confused about how to set it up. </html>and the quotes.txt file is blank until the user enters their names and quotes.  Im trying to get this done kind of quick so any help would be awesome.

So here is what I have going.

#1 - My weather station software processes a file and enters variables and then uploads it as a php file.
#2 - Currently the station also just uploads every file to the site and enters the data in the html, but I would rather have it only upload this one file and the other pages grab data from it and print it out. I have a few php scrips in there to preform certain functions (if temp <= 32 it echos that data in blue and so on) but would rather make most of it php so I have less files being uploaded every 5 minutes.

This is what the station sends to the web, but I have no idea how to get the other pages to read it and input the variables from it.
